The best part of that was the luxurious 'tache in those photos, apart from that it was a bit cheesy for my liking. I present another in my "what I was listening to on the way home" series Nick Drake - River Man

The lady's stacked and that's a fact. Great song, that.

There's a couple of videos of him doing game tunes, but little of his original work, otherwise I would have posted one of him playing. edit: a short one. Yeah, it's just him tapping on his rather gorgeous looking 11-string bass, and the occasional effects peddle.
  4. Sam & Max: The Devil's Playhouse. Episode 3: The Tomb of Sammun Mak (PC) The opening act of this game is just genius, it plays out like a Noir detective story before sliding back into the regular Sam and Max madness. Some of the dialogue is hilarious. The series has been brilliant so far.

That's really good, I don't think I know that one very well. I like REM a lot, I've seen them on the telly quite a few times and they seem great live, Stipe's got a great voice. 6. Sam & Max: The Devil's Playhouse. Episode 2: The Tomb of Sammun Mak (PC) This is brilliant. The whole game takes part in an old film from the 1900's staring Sam & Max's ancestors Sammeth and Maximus, that Sam and Max are watching. It's a really interesting and original idea. The game is made up of 4 reels that you can jump between at any time. You play through parts of a reel to learn stuff which you can use to solve puzzles in the other reels. I also really liked that you can play for a while but the intro/opening credits don't start until you play reel 1.
  7. I've been switching it on for a a few minutes a couple of times an hour, the quality of segments varies wildly. That guy with the 11 string bass is on again. That thing looks beautiful, and it sounds great too.
  8. Gerstman needs to shave that fluff off his lip, he looks ridiculous.
  9. I'm not averse to paying or donating a little for something I really like (I've already done it with a few sites over the years), but I'm not a regular enough user of the Giant Bomb site to be worthwhile for me. They've got a lot of interesting social networking and community stuff on there that might be worth it if you're into that stuff. The cutting the podcast in half proposal is somewhat against their stated intention of not locking people out of content, even if it's only for a limited period. That said, I could live without the new releases and emails segments if I had to.
  10. No More Heroes 2 : Desperate Struggle (Wii) I left this at the final battle a month or so ago, because the boss was an utter cunt in his second form (punching you out the window for an instant Game Over FTL). I turned it on today and beat the shit out of him with my big red lightsabre first go... Take that you bastard. All in all, a much improved game over the first one, but didn't quite have the same impact being a sequel and all that. I enjoyed it a lot, apart from that last boss.
  11. Sam & Max: The Devil's Playhouse. Episode 1: The Penal Zone (PC) I played through this once before, but decided to wait for the rest of the episodes to come before I played any more so I could do them all together. I decided to do this one again to remind me what had gone on. Some quality gags in there.
  12. August: Gratuitous Space Battles +DLC (PC) - £5.24 Hydro Thunder: Hurricane (XBLA) - 1200 M$ Monday Night Combat (XBLA) - 1200 M$ Total to 7/9/2010: £544.61 in real money £139.97 in trade-in credit, reward points, or vouchers 6940 Microsoft points 1300 Wii Points
  13. I liked the way it ended. To me it had a very X-Files feeling to it, in that the story doesn't end with everyone happy and everything explained. I think the rough artwork is because the same hand-drawn artwork used for the scene is just zoomed in for close-ups. It does look a bit bad in places.

The dark haired guitarist in The Animals video looks properly demented towards the end. Edit: here...

I have to admit I haven't been keeping up with this thread lately. Shame on me. I was only slightly aware of these guys at the time, but I do like the 90's indie rock, so I enjoyed this a lot. I thought his voice was a bit annoying to begin with, but it had grown on me by the end. I heard on the Spotify Radio feature thing earlier and have been singing it to myself all morning. But I'm not going to have that as my track for today, because it reminded me of this, and this is much better. The Zombies - She's Not There <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f5IRI4oHKNU?fs=1&hl=en_GB"></param><param'>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f5IRI4oHKNU?fs=1&hl=en_GB"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f5IRI4oHKNU?fs=1&hl=en_GB" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
  16. King Kong (360) I've had this as long as I've had my 360. I think it was a launch title or pretty close? Looking at it now, you can definitely see it has last gen roots at heart. The graphics look terrible when compared with most 360 games now, and it's so stupidly dark in some sections. It veered between some cool interesting bits, and sections that were just eye gougingly frustrating. It is missing a lot if stuff we take for granted e.g. Objective hints/markers, damage indicators etc. Playing as Kong and beating the shit out of dinosaurs was pretty fun. I'd give it Average out of 10, but at least that's one more old game cleared out of the backlog.

    Wear You Out

I really enjoyed that. Although I was rather disappointed at first that the "Mysterious Sonic Experiment" had nothing to do with blue hedgehogs, this totally makes up for that.
  18. A bit too many of the "Do x, n times" kind of achievements for my liking. If you don't get those in the course of normal play, then they can be pretty dull things to try and do later.
  19. Heh, I didn't play any of those this week (unless it counts the demo of the Lara Croft game).
  20. I played that on PSP, it's good but incredibly short.

Man, I fuckin love Cannonball. There's a lot of decent stuff on there, the only real stinker in my opinion is Disorder (the Slayer & Ice T track), it's like Body Count (Ice's ill-advised foray into thrash), but even worse. If you want to hear more I recommend youtubin' for: Dinosaur Junior & Del the Funkee Homosapien - Missing Link Sonic Youth & Cypress Hill - I Love You Mary Jane Mudhoney & Sir Mix-a-Lot - Freak Momma Teenage Fanclub & De La Soul - Fallin' Youtube is blocked here at work, so I can't find them myself unfortunately.

    Portal 2

I watched a bit of that Wheatley video, stopped after a while as I didn't want to see too much. It sounds too human, bascially it's just Stephen Merchant. I hope they robot it up a little bit before it's out, the same as they do with Glados and the turrets.
