I'm learning how OBS works on bad internet and trying out Oblivion for a while

 

edit maybe it's cause of streaming, but runs like treacle for me in the open world. Too much FFVII Rebirth maybe

 

edit 2 damn it looks like a mess. I'll have to watch a guide to figure it out at some point

The difference in quality with NPCs is quite severe, Patrick Stewart with hair looks proper current gen almost, but normal NPCs look like the freshly dusted off wax figures we know and hate love.

And while I realise I'm turning into a broken record, I do not like the look at all. It reminds me of these 'game YX in UE5' fan projects where they ramp up the realism to 11 but throw proper art direction out of the window.

Interiors look good and so does night, but during the day it sort of has this patina of beige over everything.

 

I dunno if it's the ray tracing or dlss or whatever but I couldn't get the image to look 'stable' or run well. I've yet to play a UE5 game that feels or looks good. The engine has just been shader stutter city, which I think is where most of my initial complaints were caused by earlier. The background detail sort of shimmers a lot which can be caused by either the image reconstruction or RT I think. You can turn the RT off but the game looks strange without it, like really flat.

 

edit yeah there's no foliage self shadowing without RT, so it really feels like the artistic direction is based off having RT on. If it's off, it looks weird. Maybe others will disagree I dunno

 

Shooting things with arrows and jumping around is very satisfying tho, especially now you can sprint.

I saw on Twitter people complaining about stutter. Need a breakdown of how bad it is, otherwise I’ll play it on Xbox

 

Although the way the game looks it seems like it would be much better on PC

Someone on another forum mentioned that if you have it both on Xbox and PC, you can actually see changes in your graphical settings when playing on Xbox if you use the cloud save synchronisation. Which absolutely is a bug/oversight, but I hope someone pushes this to its limits before it gets patched to show off a really ugly version on Xbox and a fully ramped-up one that runs at 5fps or something.

Other than shader stutter there's very few situations I can think of where xbox would be the better choice. Shader stutter is annoying but it tends to be like the first 40 minutes or so that it's an issue, and they update the precompile stages sometimes to fix the shaders that get missed.

 

Really I think the issue is you eventually come to a point where you can't just slide every slider to the right even on 4090 and it's extremely offensive to me that this is the case but when I pop my monocle back in and humble myself with a mixture of 'high' and 'medium RT' I may cease with the spitting out of my earl gray and get on with the criminal-scumming once more (or use frame generation, which I'm not a fan of, but that's what they clearly expect players to use here)

 

Plus mouse and keyboard is just better for this type of thing, I am so good at murdering deer while moving around. Have so much venison I don't know what to do with it (literally, I don't know what it's for)

 

(I know this is talking into Oblivion chat, not the point of the thread but I'll stop now)

I saw one video of someone playing on a 4090

 

FG Off + High settings got about 70-80fps but that was in an empty bit of open world with no combat 

 

4090 is finally mid-tier GPU 😖

 

FG on goes up to 120 even on ultra so that’s ok. I don’t have any problems with FG
