In the 2024 dev commentary on the recent HL2 update, they do talk a bit about certain gameplay gimmicks in HL2 they couldn't get working that they hope to use in a future title

 

 

Given how Alyx ends it's almost certain that they're currently working on something so it's always just been a question of whether they actually complete it or put it aside like other HL3s in the past, but it sounds more and more like it will get a release this time

Another Half Life 3 rumour, saying that 'HLX' would be the end of Gordon's story. I'm not sure why anyone would be disappointed in that like the image here says, think most would like to draw a line under and move on (maybe spinoffs with different characters, like we got with Alyx)

If it happens I'd want it to be the end. Unless they're following it kind of immediately with something else. You can't really trust Valve to finish it otherwise 😄
