Craymen Edge
The next downloadable title from Double Fine is 'Trenched'. Microsoft Game Studios are the publisher, so it's XBLA only. Mechs, and some kind of multiplayer? Can't tell yet if it's going to be my cup of tea, but I do like that once again it's a different direction. HandsomeDead
Same here, but I'll likely get it expecting a Double Fine twist on the formula. I think this one is made by the guy who worked on the combat side of things on Brutal Legend.
Tomahawk Rob
Double Fine doing a take on Chromehounds?! Well that's a bit unexpected... Hopefully it'll be more enjoyable to play too!
Hendo
I'm getting a slight whiff of Tower Defense in there which could work well. Or it could just be a simple action game. Either way, Double Fine means I'm interested.

Hendo
Now that's a proper tache. So this won't be Summer of Arcade, will it? That's generally July and August?
Hendo
Quicklook EX - beware, the guy doing it from Double Fine spends way too long on the customisation so if you start getting bored and want to see the actual game, skip to around 24 minutes (!) in. <object width="640" height="360" data="http://media.giantbomb.com/media/video/flash/flowplayer-3.2.4_10005.swf?config=%7B%22key%22%3A%22%23%40b549b3cbe0f4ce68961%22%2C%22clip%22%3A%7B%22scaling%22%3A%20%22fit%22%7D%2C%22canvas%22%3A%7B%22background%22%3A%22%23000000%22%2C%22backgroundGradient%22%3A%22none%22%7D%2C%22playlist%22%3A%5B%22http%3A%2F%2Fmedia.giantbomb.com%2Fuploads%2F0%2F31%2F1792936-vf_trenched_qlex_052511.jpg%22%2C%20%7B%22autoPlay%22%3Afalse%2C%22url%22%3A%22http%3A%2F%2Fmedia.giantbomb.com%2Fvideo%2Fvf_trenched_qlex_051110_1500.mp4%22%7D%5D%2C%22plugins%22%3A%7B%22controls%22%3A%7B%22url%22%3A%22http%3A%2F%2Fmedia.giantbomb.com%2Fmedia%2Fvideo%2Fflash%2Fflowplayer.controls-3.2.2_10003.swf%22%2C%22autoHide%22%3A%22always%22%2C%22timeColor%22%3A%22%23cc0000%22%2C%22bufferGradient%22%3A%22none%22%2C%22volumeSliderColor%22%3A%22%23333333%22%2C%22durationColor%22%3A%22%23ffffff%22%2C%22sliderColor%22%3A%22%23333333%22%2C%22tooltipTextColor%22%3A%22%23ffffff%22%2C%22backgroundGradient%22%3A%22none%22%2C%22timeBgColor%22%3A%22%23000%22%2C%22borderRadius%22%3A%220px%22%2C%22tooltipColor%22%3A%22%23000%22%2C%22buttonColor%22%3A%22%23cc0000%22%2C%22sliderGradient%22%3A%22none%22%2C%22progressColor%22%3A%22%23cc0000%22%2C%22bufferColor%22%3A%22%23666666%22%2C%22volumeSliderGradient%22%3A%22none%22%2C%22buttonOverColor%22%3A%22%23990000%22%2C%22progressGradient%22%3A%22medium%22%2C%22backgroundColor%22%3A%22%23111111%22%7D%7D%7D" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"><param name="movie" value="http://media.giantbomb.com/media/video/flash/flowplayer-3.2.4_10005.swf?config=%7B%22key%22%3A%22%23%40b549b3cbe0f4ce68961%22%2C%22clip%22%3A%7B%22scaling%22%3A%20%22fit%22%7D%2C%22canvas%22%3A%7B%22background%22%3A%22%23000000%22%2C%22backgroundGradient%22%3A%22none%22%7D%2C%22playlist%22%3A%5B%22http%3A%2F%2Fmedia.giantbomb.com%2Fuploads%2F0%2F31%2F1792936-vf_trenched_qlex_052511.jpg%22%2C%20%7B%22autoPlay%22%3Afalse%2C%22url%22%3A%22http%3A%2F%2Fmedia.giantbomb.com%2Fvideo%2Fvf_trenched_qlex_051110_1500.mp4%22%7D%5D%2C%22plugins%22%3A%7B%22controls%22%3A%7B%22url%22%3A%22http%3A%2F%2Fmedia.giantbomb.com%2Fmedia%2Fvideo%2Fflash%2Fflowplayer.controls-3.2.2_10003.swf%22%2C%22autoHide%22%3A%22always%22%2C%22timeColor%22%3A%22%23cc0000%22%2C%22bufferGradient%22%3A%22none%22%2C%22volumeSliderColor%22%3A%22%23333333%22%2C%22durationColor%22%3A%22%23ffffff%22%2C%22sliderColor%22%3A%22%23333333%22%2C%22tooltipTextColor%22%3A%22%23ffffff%22%2C%22backgroundGradient%22%3A%22none%22%2C%22timeBgColor%22%3A%22%23000%22%2C%22borderRadius%22%3A%220px%22%2C%22tooltipColor%22%3A%22%23000%22%2C%22buttonColor%22%3A%22%23cc0000%22%2C%22sliderGradient%22%3A%22none%22%2C%22progressColor%22%3A%22%23cc0000%22%2C%22bufferColor%22%3A%22%23666666%22%2C%22volumeSliderGradient%22%3A%22none%22%2C%22buttonOverColor%22%3A%22%23990000%22%2C%22progressGradient%22%3A%22medium%22%2C%22backgroundColor%22%3A%22%23111111%22%7D%7D%7D" /><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" /><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /><param name="whiskey-video-id" value="4162" site="http://media.giantbomb.com/video/" /><param name="wmode" value="opaque" /><param name="bgcolor" value="#000000" /></object>
Hendo
I saw this by chance on the only 5 seconds I saw of the WhiskeyMedia Live thing, but they announced that it's changing its name for everyone, not just Europe. The Xbox Live Arcade game has already been renamed Iron Brigade for its belated European release this month. The original title, Trenched, triggered a trademark dispute with an obscure Portuguese board game.Other regions must make the change to allow worldwide online multiplayer, Double Fine's Brad Muir explained to Whiskey Media (via XBLAFans). A title update will change the name as well as add a smattering of new weapons, costumes and gestures.
Hendo
It seems Double Fine gets screwed at every turn - massively delayed in Europe, have to pay for the name to be changed for everyone (via a title update and development time) and then when it does come out in Europe... ....there's no trial version to download, only the full game and the box art is for 'Trenched'. Sly Reflex
That game is cursed.
Hendo
Had a bash at the trial and soon unlocked the full game, but I appear to have found a game-breaking bug. I'm very early on, they've just given me the tower that slows enemies down. I have to press left on the d-pad to select it and put it near my shotgun tower. Nothing I press seems to let me select it and pressing the xbox guide button proves that my d-pad is actually still working, I can still move around the guide dash with the d-pad. If I can't select that tower, I can't progress any further. Also, was going to take it online but can't see the option anywhere from the ship deck, although you can see the spaces for 3 other players to join you. Craymen Edge
I didn't see that bug in the couple of hours I played on Friday, although apart from the first stage, I played online. The multiplayer options are in the comms room thing on the carrier, I think. I really enjoyed it, the customization is fun. Anyone up for some co-op? Hendo
Yeah, I've not long unlocked the radio comms room to go online. If you see me online invite me in, I could do with a hand. I got past that bug by going back to the main menu and doing the mission over again. Got past the point I was stuck on with ease. No idea why it locked up the d-pad. Hendo
Played a bit more of this although I'm doing the old stages over and over again, partly to try and get better medals or mostly to grind my way into some better weapons and trenches. Played a bit online and it seemed to work well but I'm left a bit confused with why sometimes it tells me that my trench isn't fitted properly. The last stage, we barely scraped through because I didn't have a weapon attached to my right trigger and we went down to just two of us. Because of this and the slow pace, I can't see it working as well as a single player game - it seems to work better if you all take specific places on the map. I take it that the scrap gets shared out evenly regardless of who picks it up?
Hendo
Triple post all up inside of you. I'm enjoying this but there's a lot that hasn't been explained yet. As mentioned before it'll tell me off for not fitting my trench properly - I think it's because I can put more machine guns on the 3 slots rather than just one, but then some chassis have different slots and some guns seem to have different stats. Am I doing right in that I'm selling anything I've got more than one of? Also, a bit confused on the energy bars on the right. It's not really clear what each of them are for. Craymen Edge
Bum. I wrote a reply on my phone, then accidentally hit back and lost it all. The energy barvs: The curved one is the energy of the base you're defending. The gauge with the needle seems to be your progress through the level. The long straight one is the energy level of your trench. I think I've had that warning about not being fully equipped when I haven't assigned all my emplacements. I really like stacking multiple weapons on the same trigger if I have enough slots. Machine gun and shotgun firing at once is great fun for close range. Hendo
Got a few of the multiplayer achievements and after a whole load of grinding, I was brave enough to try the one where you complete a level without firing a shot and did it first try. I'm at level 9 now, I think ten is the last level. I've been doing the Europe stages over and over rather than properly progress further. Mostly because I like tower defense games when you're really over-powered and there's little challenge from the enemy so you're just walking all over them. But also because I think it's fair to say it's best with a full team of 4 simply because of the need to move around the map, and it would be more enjoyable with 4 people all communicating and taking their designated spot on the map. Craymen Edge
I finished the final area, and the Martian Bear DLC in co-op yesterday. Even then there were a couple of levels we weren't able to get above bronze. Still up for survival/trying for gold medals if anyone wants to play. Also: the artillery gun 'Mr. Pancakes' is the best weapon name ever.
Hendo
Mr Pancakes is brilliant I've finally got gold medals on all the levels, but I bought the DLC and tried it on my own and couldn't even make it past the first level. Might be on it later if you fancy a go.
Sly Reflex
Currently knocked down to 600msp. http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-GB/Product/Iron-Brigade/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d80258410a95?cid=SLink Seriously considering it for that price.
