Hendo
Just downloading now. I agree with Jim that the outpouring is a little much, you gotta face facts that print is on the way out for specialist stuff, videogame related especially. Also, as much as I like the people at 1up, none of them are gonna be sleeping on the streets - working at 1up.com (especially if you're in the public eye with the podcasts) is pretty much a guarantee of landing on your feet. I'd expect though that most of the remaining staff will be leaving fairly soon. If I was them I'd be job hunting.

retroed
I've moved all of this 1UP/EGM talk from the Podcasts thread into a new one just for 1UP news. Hope no one minds. James Mielke's blog at 1UP has a few last pics taken at the EGM offices, here, and a letter from Street Fighter IV producer, Yoshinori Ono here. A new remix of the EGM Rap: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=IQ0rAAURQ84 Also, the 1UP Show guys are carrying on doing their thing, under the http://talkingorange.com/ guise. Hendo
Had a good listen to Rebel FM, it was pretty good sound niggles aside. I've also added loads of them to my stalking Twitter account so I currently have Ryan O'Donnell, Ryan Scott, Andrew Pfister, Matt Chandronait, Nick Suttner, Anthony Gallegos, ShaneWatch, Phillip Kollar, Garnett Lee, Jenn Frank, etc. Apparently, 1up Yours will continue, which is easy to see as John Davison always joins in despite not working there and Shane Bettanhausen will probably do the same. It's weird, it's like a geek real-life soap opera unfolding at every turn.
retroed
Here's a piece from Garnett Lee. About that situation, I've received hundreds of questions about what's going to happen to 1UP Yours. The short answer is I don't know. For the long answer I'll do my best to make sense of such an indistinct answer. When I twittered "well, it really was a lovely holiday 1UP Yours special I think. By my count that was episode #163 Hey, that's a prime number. Nice way to go" it was my emotional response to hearing all the people we'd lost. In particular, losing Andrew dealt a heavy blow. While he's been away the past few months I've been back to producing the show. Even with a full staff doing that created a substantial weekly time management challenge for me. And then there's the matter of having to rebuild the show cast again. Yeah, we've done that several times before, but Andrew was such an important part of getting it right. He was the sounding board for working things out, and always was really in tune with how this personality or that would fit into the new mix.So that's why I don't know whether 1UP Yours will continue. Well, that and the obvious part about not knowing who would fill Shane's spot on the show and that being a much more difficult question in light of our staff reduction. Now while I'm not sure what it will be, on the underlying question of whether there will be a show I'm more comfortable telling you yes, there will be one. Really, that's what I do. Sure, I enjoy doing written content, but I think -- and judging by the audience response so do a lot of you out there -- that I do my best work on video and audio shows. I can also tell you that one of the UGO editorial execs who was in the office for the transition told me he was a huge fan of Yours. That leads me to believe that some sort of show will figure into the mix as we design the editorial package at 1UP. Garnett's full blog post on 1UP. And Sam Kennedy on What Happened to 1UP. retroed
Tune in late this Friday (or possibly early Saturday, depending on how things work out), where you’ll be able to download the first of what will hopefully be many episodes of Geekbox Radio, an all-new gaming audio podcast from some of the talented ex-1UP personalities who brought you shows like GFW Radio, Legendary Thread, and Sports Anomaly (I don’t want to let the cat out of the bag yet as far as who’s appearing  you’ll have to tune in to find out!). With any luck, it might even be good. http://www.geekbox.net/archives/2009/01/12...ming-this-week/
retroed
Scott Sharkey lists the Top 5 changes coming to 1UP. In light of 1UP's acquisition by UGO Entertainment there has been a lot of speculation as to our future editorial direction. I've been called in to do a little rumor control and to share some exciting upcoming developments with our readership. I'm sure you'll all be as thrilled as I am with what's on the horizon for us. RivaOni
There was alot of talk about games, the problem with the first show was that their was about 7 or 8 of them (maybe more) so there was lots being said, then they moved onto "what have you been playing?" and it didn't move on from there because they had so many people to cover. retroed
Good news. Before I get to the next stuff, there's something I didn't want to jinx, or presume would happen, or really do much of anything that could cause some sort of karmic reaction to stop it from happening that now that it's here I'm so stoked to share. Tomorrow John, Luke, Shane, Andrew, and I are sitting down in the studio and busting out a 1UP Yours classic cast reunion show. If that wasn't reason enough to get excited about the prospects for the show we've got NPDs, and not just any NPD's, December NPDs, and Luke's leading the whole news segment just like back in the day That gives us at least one show next week, now on to what comes next. Yes, we're going to do a new show. The cast will be John, David, and I with a fourth chair. We'll try folks out for a while to see who that winds up being based on how well things click. For the content I aim to bring the show back to a more community-based focus. And it's going to be shorter: we're lopping off the third segment. In its place, the second segment will be a place for us to bring the conversations you are having out there about whatever it may be -- games, reviews, some new trailer, you name it -- into the show. Of course, the first segment stays Whatcha Been Playin? http://www.1up.com/do/blogEntry?bId=897879...cUserId=5324853 This is fantastic news. John, David, Garnett and a fourth chair back with a regular podcast, and the one-off renuinion I'm looking forward to as well. I liked Luke Smith. Yay. :D
Hendo
Now there's some conflicting thoughts - more 1up Yours is great, albeit in a slightly different form (and probably, name) but David Ellis is one of the ones that I can't stand. Hopefully the lay-offs have made those that remain a bit humbler. And now they don't work in print at all so they can stop referring to everyone else as "the internet" cos you're part of it too, you fuckers. Oh I need a coffee. Looking forward to the massive reunion show though. Mega64's completely un-connected video about a dog:

Hendo
Yeah I read those tweets (twits?) over the weekend. http://www.1up.com/do/blogEntry?bId=897890...cUserId=5324853 Last night we recorded 1UP Yours episode 164. The energy and emotion we felt when we sat down to get started left no doubt that it would be something special. Before getting it going, though, we talked about everything the show had been and the question everyone's been asking: will the name "Yours" continue. Reading all your responses of support to my last blog on the subject really meant a lot. And they served as the starting point for the discussion.I brought out many of the points raised in those comments from whether people would just keep calling Yours regardless of the name to the comparison to shows like Saturday Night Live where every so often the cast complete changes and looks nothing like what came before. The deeper we got into the subject, though, the more evident it became that Yours is in a unique situation. We joke around about it being "my goddamn show" and true, I do host it, but the identity of the show flows from all of its members. In the past we've individually replaced the fourth chair a number of times. Each time we did before you'd know it we'd be right back on track with the new lineup no matter how hard it had looked to fill the spot. I let you in on the secret: the show reflected the editorial group so well that it always pretty much fell into place on its own. We're in a whole other place now and part of that is that we're completely redeveloping our content to match the people we have. That includes the weekly flagship podcast. I outlined some of what it will be like and as a lot of you noted it's much of what we originally setout to do with Yours. Combine that with keeping the name and I all but assure us of never ending tit-for-tat comparison to the "old" Yours. That wouldn't be good for us or for you. With the new show I want to take everything we've learned in three years of doing this and launch a show that's even better. And yes, I know how high we set the bar, but I think we can do it. But it won't be Yours. That era has passed. It will be the window into today's 1UP, both the editorial team and you. Now I just need a name. Have been considering 1UP Ours as a reflection of both its roots and renewed direction. And yes, it will still be on the same feed. That show will debut a week from Friday on January 30. This week it's 1UP Yours episode 164, the last 1UP Yours. I hope you enjoy it and the memories, and will be excited about the debut of the new show the following week. Also, Ryan Scott's Geekbox Radio podcast is finally up, no iTunes link as yet though. Actually, go to Advanced in iTunes, then "subscribe to podcast" and paste in http://geekbox.libsyn.com/rss and all should be good. Here it is  the first episode of Geekbox.net’s radio podcast. And it’s a whopper, clocking in at just over two hours! An iTunes subscription link is coming soon; for now, you can download the MP3 directly from LibSyn or from Zune Marketplace. And if you like the podcast, please don’t forget to Digg  more Diggs equals more listeners, and more listeners equals more podcasts! I hope you enjoy it!! retroed
I just saw one of Nick Suttner's latest twitters, and it says: Thanks for all the congrats, everyone! For those who didn't listen to the podcast yet, I'm off to work at Sony as a Product Evaluator. Good on him. Phil Kollar writes a farewell to Nick at Eat-Sleep-Game. Nick Suttner's new blog, rocksolidaudio. I won't be appearing on Rebel FM going forward, not because I won't be local anymore, but because it's a conflict of interest to chat about games on an independent podcast. Which is quite understandable. It was a really, really tough choice to move out of the gaming media, which I'll write more about soon; I'm way excited about my new position, but don't think it wasn't a difficult decision. And to that point, I'm incredibly lucky to be receiving job offers at all in this economy, which I fully appreciate the reality of.
Hendo
A couple of days late but UGO laid off more people, including some more at 1up, including Ray Barnholt. http://www.1up.com/do/blogEntry?bId=9061878 Apparently Sharkey was fired before that, no idea what happened. Just as In This Thread was getting interesting, Retronauts is gone so there's pretty much no reason to go there or listen to or watch anything they make anymore. An absolute shame because 1up made me want to make podcasts.
