  1. Roller Drome seemed to get talked about a lot right before release, then no one mentioned it again. It's a CEL shaded roller skate arena game with similar muted colours to Sable. Presumably deliberately it reminds me of old 70s genre films. The concept is kind of Running Man, you enter arenas and have to shoot the house players. To reload you have to do tricks, this refills your ammo, killing enemies gets you health back, and there's a bunch of different enemy types. I wasn't feeling this originally, it just felt flat and boring, frustrating even. Movement can be a bit odd, you don't control your momentum, press forward to start then leave it, concentrate on steering, jumping and tricks. Get close enough and there's an auto aim to shots, with some of the weapons having slight tricks to them. There's a dodge, time this with the slow down time mechanic, usually used for aiming, and you get an extended period of slowed time. There's challenges to the levels, things like performing certain tricks, kill enemies with certain weapons, and I think it's this stuff that was annoying me. It's probably best to just beat a level then revisit it and try to get one or two challenges each time, that's not how I was approaching it. You need to beat a certain number of challenges to unlock the next set of levels, so I was trying to beat everything all at once, you just don't have that sort of control early on, or I didn't, I did much better when I came back after a break and went back to the earlier levels. I'm still not sure I see the really high scores for it, but when it does all click with you it is fun, really fun at points

  2. Tried this out today after reading about the studio's closure (bought it a while back). This is an absolutely fantastic game with a mile-high skill ceiling that I will never boot up again. Fifteen to twenty years ago I could have seen myself getting home from school and grinding this for a couple of hours per day and doing cool stuff, but I lack both the energy and motivation for that today. But it's really excellent stuff, the kind of game that demands a lot of devotion and muscle memory training, almost like a single player fighting game. It feels a bit like if someone mixed together Tony Hawk's and The Club and to everyone's surprise it worked. It's a shame it never really caught an audience, I'd like to think this could have become a streamer hit or something if the right people had picked it up. But I also remember the marketing being a bit odd and thinking for the longest time that it was a multiplayer title. Real shame it didn't pay off, they put a lot of energy into this.

  3. trying to catch up on stuff i've missed during the year, started this on gamepass, i really like it, but i'm really bad at it. think i did the first 2 levels or so then got stuck around level 3 just keep dying, you have to be dodging all the time and with everything else going on it's easy to miss, and then when your dodging it interrupts trying to do other stuff like tricks or shooting. also like DANGERMAN says the roller skating handling is more realistic/odd or something i don't know but it's much harder to go in the direction you want to go than something like bomb rush, like a quite simple looking platforming challenge to get a pickup/token thing took me ages, and finding it quite easy to accidentally fall off the map. so yeah anyway there are some good difficulty options to turn damage down or off etc so i've done that and back to really enjoying it again. why i like it - the action is just really cool, doing tricks shooting bad guys in slow motion etc. looks nice too imo. also Rollerdrome to help with searches.
