Bit further on now, I've hired my main pawn and defeated the hydra. Also picked up the Dripstone Cave achievement. I have to collect Quina in Cassardis then it will be time to do some serious exploration/questing.

It looks like I can access Bitter Black Isle already. I assume it is super high level stuff though?

Yes, level 50 if you are a complete boss. Level 80-100 if you are a normal.

Heh well I couldn't resist going over there anyway. I explored around the Garden of Igominy, all routes led to the boss fight with the wraith which I didn't bother with... :D It was worth it though for completing the purify a cursed item quest, got a nice reward and lots of experience. Also around 60,000 gold richer.

My fighter and main pawn (strider) are now level 13/14, however I've noticed the pawn (mage) who's been with me since the start of the game is still stuck on level 6. Do pawns not level up at all? So you basically keep having to replace them?

Also, what's the dealio with changing vocations? If I learn mage spells, will I be able to cast them (set them active) if I switch back to fighter? And what about support skills for other vocations? Can they be equipped once learned with any class? What about core skills, will they only be active for their specific vocations?

Anyway it's an awesome game so far, love it.

In regards to hired Pawns, yes you have to replace them as they don't level with you.... if your using the online pawns the idea is to release them then you can try to re-hire them in which case if their owners had leveled them more that would be updated.

As for vocations... active skills learned can be used with any vocation so you can mix and match to your hearts content, weapon skills can generally only be used with the vocation you learned it from.... with a few exceptions where the skills are shared between classes. Some Mage spells are shared with the Sorcerer, you won't have to learn them twice... but you'll never be a spellcasting Fighter, I'm afraid.:)

just shy of 50 hours into this now, and I hit level 42 over the weekend.

I've switched to magick archer and I'm liking the ability to 'lock-on' to targets (although I think that the Ranger's attacks were stronger!)

I've also started to use portacrystals, I've strategically placed them into the far corners of the map, While I've been enjoying running everywhere, sometimes it's a bit of a pain in the arse! It's tricky though, I've had some really great gaming experiences from trying to walk back home to safety, like when I went to see some bandits, and it got dark, and a chimrea attacked me, then some dire-wolves jumped out of the bushes being chased by skeletal knights.

I hated trying to take on harpies as a fighter, wretched things! I also encountered a wight for the first time yesterday, god knows how you'd take that down if you didn't have magic or arrows!

There still seems to be so much to the map I've not uncovered! need to find the last golem!

Done a serious amount of adventuring now. Finished the Witchwood quest and explored the Ruins of Aernst Castle. I found a Wyrmward Potion which came with some "rare item get" music so I guess it might have some use later in the game. I found out it costs 0RC to hire pawns at a lower level than you so I hired a mage and a sorcerer a couple of levels below mine.

The area around Aernst Castle stretches as far as the eye can see so I might leave it alone and go back to the story path for a while. I need something to do with all this bloody gold I'm collecting anyway...

Btw, as far as changing vocation goes - it costs over 1000 RC a pop so it's not a decision to be made lightly. Any combinations you would recommend? Do you think a warrior should stick to the 3 warrior classes or mix with strider and mage classes?

That's the problem with playing offline, its a damn sight harder to get decent amounts of RC due to no-one renting your pawn.

I'd advise against spending 70 levels as Fighter or straight up strength classes only to try changing to a Mage as you'd have rubbish magic stats, obviously. Good gear can only compensate so much afterall. I'm pretty certain Magic Archer has fairly balanced stat gains though.

right

it also costs 0RC to borrow a pawn from someone on your friends list, be careful though, While it's nice to have a level 90 pawn tag along, one hit killing everything, it reduces the XP you get from battling.

As for switching class, I'm now level 42, and I've changed my vocation from Strider to ranger (maxing out all of my ranger skills), then moved onto fighter for a while, and now I've moved onto magick archer,

It costs Discipline points to switch class, and I currently have about 20,000 spare points. You pick up plenty of points by just pushing through the game, so don't worry too much about rushing to switch class. I found that with my Ranger set-up I was quite happy with how everything was set out for about 10 or so levels (which is why I have so many spare discipline points)

I've never used any rift crystals at this point, I don't know if they're used for anything other than hiring pawns, but I'm finding I'm picking up a fair few from questing.

I've not touched it at all yet, but it's my understanding that Rift crystals are much more important in the Dark Arisen DLC

Man, this game is off the hook. (That sounds like something I would say). So I headed north to Gran Soren, before that I cleared out the Watergod's Altar. Well, the first floor. I found three alter slates and beat the cyclops but I don't think I can proceed without lowering the level of the water. So anyway onwards to Gran Soren at which point the scale of the map begins to kick in...

Gold seem to be pretty meaningless in the game. I already have 200,000 (down to around 120,000 now). I like to buy one of everything so I can see it in the enhancement menu. I haven't sold anything I just keep it all stored.

I was going to explore Gran Soren but I picked up a quest to escort some knight to the Shadow Fort. It seems to have interrupted my other quests so I'm just going to go and do it. It's bloody miles away though, I don't particularly want to go exploring off the beaten path so I'm just going to take the most direct route and not explore much.

After that I'll come back to Gran Soren and pick up my next story quest to see where that takes me.

As it is I have unexplored map as far as the eye can see so I'll probably go back to the Witchwood/Aersnt Castle area and fill out the map around there. Then work my way back up to Gran Soren.

The scale of the map is ridiculous. But it's a bloody brilliant game and puts Skyrim to shame.

Gold may seem meaningless at the minute but some of the high level equipment you can buy later on can put a dent in your purse.

Little tip for you.... there's three healing springs dotted around the map .... make sure you have a lot of empty flasks with you if you come across one (if you haven't already).

I've found the springs, I just stand in them though, does teh spring water do something extra useful then?

Last night, as part of a story quest, I had to go and kill a griffin, no bother, as I've taken down several of these in the past before (super-easy if you have a fire enchanted weapon!) but the damn thing flew off to a castle that was miles across the map.

Battled my way there, past harpies, bandits, assasins, skeletons, more spiders than you can throw a stick at.....

eventually to the castle! which was packed full of really tough skeleton guys. the worst part is that they'll try and knock you off the edge to your doom. All of my pawns died, so I ended up taking on the griffin single handed, luckily someone turned up to help (and boy am I glad that I chose not to forge the item the game suggested I should...)

I'm not at level 45, and loving this game!

Best £16 I've spent on a game in ages!

If you fill up flasks with the spring water you can use that to heal the entire party.... works really well on low to mid level parties, just don't give any to your pawns.... theyll spunk it all on minor injuries.

If you've done the Griffin quest did you get your third Golem?.

well, actually I found a third one, I didn't realise that they respawn, I thought that once they were dead, they would be gone forever, but yeah! I fought that golem, found it a little harder with a magick archer though.

Do you know if you can use a ferrystone on an escort quest? Madeline wants to go all the way across the beach, and I'll be darned if I'm going to walk all that way and have her go running out in front of ever creature that comes my way
