Dead Rising

I was on my "try and stay up all day to get out of nights" day today so I needed a game to keep me sucked in. Looking at the time now, that didn't seem to have worked so well.

Anyhow, I realised recently that this is probably my least-played 360 game and with GTA IV on the way I need something to keep me occupied.

I always thought that the reason I haven't played it much is that I get to one bit about an hour in and then turn off for a couple of months and when I come back to it, I might as well start from scratch.

I found out when I picked it back up that it's more that the game has a shitty and confusing save system, where you only have one save block, and you either "save game and continue" or "save status and return to main menu". I always picked the latter when I was ready to put it to one side, not realising that it actually means that your stats will stay as they were, but you will go back to the beginning next time you boot up the game. <_<

The actual gameplay is just as much fun as it sounds - put a bucket on a zombie's head and beat him to death with a Gibson Flying V guitar. Slice off his arm with some garden shears and then stab him in the head with his own arm. Turn on a petrol lawn mower......you get the point.

What I'm not keen on is that there's so many people to save and tasks to do that it starts getting overwhelming. The advice I've been given is to largely ignore the story on your first go through and just have fun levelling up. I very rarely go through a game twice, so I would've much preferred taking the level up system out and making it more linear, but that's probably just me. God damn Japanese, they can't make a game without some form of grinding!

this is a game i always wanted to enjoy, but you really really either have to have a HD tv or a massive telly, otherwise the reams of text is completely unreadable. That was my only real gripe with the game, but it pretty much meant i never bothered to play it.

Ive always kinda wanted this game but never got around to picking it up. Even tho your struggling with it, are you persevering? And would you recommend buying it on the cheap?

You can butcher zombies in a variety of comedic ways, such as grabbing a park bench and charging through the horde, grabbing a coat hanger and stabbing it in their heads, getting on a push-bike and just ploughing through the un-dead, climbing up and walking over their heads Mick Dundee style.

All these and more are worth the entry fee alone.

This game is certainaly worth getting - especially on the cheap!

The game is alot of fun, but unfortunatley you do need to be quite levelled up before it becomes great. My tactic was tospend my first 3 days (the length of the game) driving in and out the car park running down thousands of zombies so i wa sufficiantly levelled when i came to start properly.

My gripe with this game is that i spend my first time levelling, tried to do the missions the second time and failed, them onmy third attempt i did all the missions and somehow didnt unlock the extra days... was a bit peevedso i gave up on it.

Apart from that it is so much fun killing zombies with different weapons... and you can unlock mega man's gun!

Just had a good old bash at this and got further but then fucked up and have bollocksed up the story part, so now I'm just playing to level up basically. And kill zombies, of course.

I've now killed at least 650 of the undead (that the game counts, not including all the zombies I've killed and then had to redo a section due to death) and have not yet received any achievements for the amount I've killed so I'm guessing you have to do a lot. Though I have got my "Raining Zombies" achievement, how you do it is in that clip I posted before. :D

I have had a proper :o moment too.

I had to escort this guy back to the safety zone and because there was something wrong with him I had to half-carry half-lean with my shoulder to get him back, meaning you can't use a weapon while you both move.

This wasn't a major problem as it's fairly easy to weave in and out of the bastards.......until we got to a warehouse which is right by the safety zone, but with a lift inbetween. Open the lift doors and what's there but a huge industrial-size lift full to the brim of zombies! I actually did gasp!

What could I do but quickly find a relatively safe spot to park the geezer and then start smacking seven shades of shit out of the undead cunts with a mannequin. Yes, really.

No! It's still there!

Well, yes, it's proper B-Movie zombie heaven. For all it's faults I think it's a very good game, but as I've said, I'd rather have them taken out the levelling up aspect, but then maybe that's to promote depth? Or possibly extend the life a bit.

And that day has arrived. I noticed some of you weren't too keen on it, so I thought I'd give it a good word.

OK, I'm gonna go against the grain here. I quite like the save system. I'd prefer a more conventional one, but I know why they've done it this way. It gives the game more of a sense of urgency, you can't fuck up, and if you do, you're screwed. Kinda like in a real life Zombie situation. It means you can't do they game perfectly, and go through it again.

But yeah, I've been through the game once, and I fucked up the story, I was too late completing one of the missions. So, I just went around beating the shit out of Zombies, and saved the other survivors and killing Psychopaths. It was fairly fun, save for the idiotic AI.

"NO ,DON'T WALK INTO A BUNCH OF ZOMBIES YOU IDIOTIC TWAT!"

I actually finished the three days, and got out at level 21. I'm now going through the game again, going OK with the story now I have the wonder of the Small Chainsaw. They kick arse. I think this game's impossible without them. If you do one scoop, make sure it's Out of Control you do. You'll be able to kill bosses in 3 hits.

So yeah, while it's annoying sometimes, I just find the fun gameplay and great premise too fun to say no to. Also, for a Capcom game, it actually has pretty good voice acting.

Oh yeah, and Jill's Sandwiches made me

small chainsaws FTW!

I got this recently coz i had spare credit in a private game store.

I really hate the muck up once and die thing. Ive restarted the game 3 times already!

I wish it didnt have a time when u HAVE to do something otherwise you fail.

Started this back up, levelled up from 11 to 16 now.

I can never seem to get very far in it before dying and then I save my stats and start again, rather than carry on from the last save - not sure why, it just seems a better idea at the time. I've gone through the beginning about 15 times now.

Somewhow I managed to find a shotgun from somewhere and for the first time ever I could kill the twats in the car when you're in the outside park thing. I grabbed the woman to save her and we got in the car and just tore it round the park, continually mowing the un-dead down. Great fun!

But then, inevitably, I died so I started again. This time I didn't have the shotgun, but I did manage to kill the guy on the gun turret in the back of the car, and waded through to the next area. When I came back through the park, the guy on the turret was resurrected. <_<

Last go I had before I died I got as far as the clown, and I'm pretty sure I've killed him before and stopped the ride, but this time, as you'd expect, I died. Next time I boot it up, I have to decide to either start it yet again from scratch or carry on from my last save.

It's weird, the big draw for most people is the replay factor, going through the whole game again and again, but with me I end up doing just the opening 2 hours again and again. I wish you could have multiple saves, that would make it easier.

Anyway, this is my groundhog day.

Thats pretty much the reason I gave up on it - got sick of playing the start over and over again. Its a better idea in the long run to save your stats but it gets a bit boring after a while.
