  1. Dynasty Warriors Get! Downloaded this just now, going to have a little go and see where its at. Dont care if a thread existed for this, anything anybody said about it before is not relevant any more. Straight off the bat, the campaign mode is a bit jigged up. You have fixed characters you play as rather than choosing who you want from several, and you appear to earn money depending on how many territories you hold. You can invade territories that are next to ones youve invaded, signalled by a white line. Theres some bullshit about stratagems, but as usual mine will be to fuck everybody up regardless of who I am and who they are. So far, so likey. Its your good old fashioned Dynasty Warriors but with nicer graphics, touchey stuff and fancy effects. Ive always thought that these games were better on the handheld and my first one was the PSP one (I forget the number) and this has that lovely quality to it, mindless smashy. Its like being given a big role of bubble wrap and left to your devices. If you havnt tried this kind of game before, or perhaps didnt like it then Id say give this a go, its free on psn plus and its a nice little time passer if nothing else.
  2. Not sure how many people know, but Sony/Q Entertainment's free-2-play spirit battler game is out of beta. Just started playing it tonight. It's a mix of Pokemon (without the Action/RPG) and Puzzle & Dragons (without the puzzle). It's pretty fun time killer or if you're into gaming and watching TV at the same time this would be the game for you. Spirits of Destiny is divided into regions and each region has exclusive spirits, but all regions share the same base spirits. If you want a full collection you'll have to trade with gamers from other regions. It definitely has a social bent to it and encourage you to make friends in-game.I have not friended anyone in the game yet, so if those people end up on your PSN friends list outside of the game like they do in Toro's Friend Network is yet to be seen. So far nothing that I have seen could not be done on a high-end smartphone. Sony and Q went the route of touch screen only to play the game, so the face buttons, D-Pad and sticks are useless. Like all free-2-play games there are two forms of currency. I have yet to see a pay wall and I doubt Sony would even go that route. Some will see that as a negative and write the game off, but I will say it is a fun time waster and it's a free. There is really no reason not to give this a shot.
  3. I started playing Hot Shots Golf: World Invitational (Also know as Minna no Golf 6 and Everybody's Golf) in in earnest tonight and I have come to the conclusion that I'm awesome at this game. I came in 2rd on my first game and 3rd on my second game both on the Canadian course (I can't remember the name). Turns out Sony has been supporting the game with character add-on DLC. I picked up Gravity Rush's Kat, but found out there is also Kazuma Kiryu from Sega's Yakuza franchise, Pac-Man and Sony's mascot cats Toro and Kuro are available to gamers in Japan. Shame they did not get released in western markets. I've seen a bunch of you MFers playing and was wondering if any of you would be open for a private online tournament?
  4. This is out tomorrow but I've had it for a bit and probably should have got around to making a thread by now. If you've not played an Ys game before then Ys is kind of like Zelda, Story of Thor, Secret of Mana, erm Dark Saviour, any other slashy action-jrpg, except it's ALL ON ALL THE TIME. No backwards step, no hesitation, no fucking mercy. You see a monster and you beat the fuck out of it. It's a bloodlust of a game except it's actually quite nice, no swearing or anything, no blood, but it's not a game where you make a lot of use out of the block button. There's an evade button that's used all the time, but mainly because it's quicker to forward roll than walk. Time a dodge right and you'll slow town time for a bit, time a block and you'll be able to counter with more damage. There's skill moves that take SP to use, but so long as you haven't swung at anything for about a second your next hit will fill a chunk of that meter Assuming there's still enemies in the vicinity the only reason you'll need to stop attacking is to refill health. In Oath in Felghana enemies dropped enough health that you pretty rarely needed to heal, here they don't, instead you have to stop for a while and let it fill up slowly. Alternatively you can use items, but given you have a free method they're probably best saved for when you need them. There's also monuments, these heal you as soon as you go near them, they also let you warp around the game world The game world is huge, it feels like you can go all over the place at first, but it's actually quite linear, although there is loads of places to explore. And you should explore ans that's often how you find the best equipment. There's also items in the game that let you progress, so if there's a row of trees blocking your path, there's probably a relic that will solve that problem for you later. But yeah, Ys Memories of Celceta is another Ys game, a fairly long one at that. It's great though, I've got a review up on bitparade, no video or anything so if I've not explained it very well it's because I'm not convinced anyone here is going to be too interested in it
  5. Any one else been playing this? I know a lot of people know all about it here because I heard about it from them. It looks like a NES game, it sounds like a NES game (super turtles like theme tune) but it doesnt really play like any NES game i ever played. Its like a spoof version of GTA in 8 bit. Its all about missions, going from A to B, then back to A. The humour is a million miles a minute, every time you do something its a piss take of something else and most of the time its pretty funny. You have your main story mission as well as lots of little side missions which are mostly about killing sprees. I have two problems with it, put simply: its hard to see sometimes just what the fucks going on due to the graphical style and colour and it can get a little samey. BUT, its only 800 points and its well worth the money for the amount of game on offer.
  6. so it's like the last one, arcade racer with loads of sega characters. it's good - nice handling, varied and mostly fun single player events - time trials, boost events, drift events, dodging traffic and flying through loops are my favorites. the tracks are mostly ace, really bright and exciting, there's a few boring bits mind, they've got ones based on samba de amigo, jet set radio, golden axe, skies of arcadia. did some time trialling on the billy hatcher track, didn't beat the expert ghost but it was really good fun, i'm still crap at the last corner, and i managed to fall through the floor a few times. didn't like all the event types, the elimination ones are a bit boring because of lack of weapons, but that's good for the races so i won't complain too much. don't like the online but that's probably just me, i don't like most racing games with weapons, and prefer the non-racing events in single player. each race has 3 difficulty levels (giving you 1/2/3 stars) that also determine the speed like 50/100/150cc in mario kart. playing on normal it's pretty hard starting out, but as i've played more i'm finding it easier, maybe something to do with leveling your car up - although i'm not sure that has a big effect - just lets you tune it to your preferred style a bit (better speed/boost/handling etc). in campaign mode you need the stars to unlock new events and characters - seems you can unlock a good amount just playing on easy, but you'll need to play on medium or above to unlock have it on rental and was going to pick it up when it gets cheaper but it's only ~£25 from asda so i might just buy it... see from the chart thread other people have been playing - what think you?

  8. So we know about this yah? .So its basically a hardcore old school platformer that fucks you the better you get at it. I'm currently on level 121. This is a video of level 329 (penultimate level). You can spend the cyrstals you pick up in game on stuff, one such stuff is a video of the AI doing the level. On the websites I look at, only one person has beaten that. That dude bought the video for the last level: Fucksticks.
  9. guess i should make a thread for this instead of just using the 999 one - this is a sequel to 999 - it's basically the same idea so here is how DANGERMAN describes the gameplay from the 999 thread: "It's a interactive novel kind of thing, you get huge lumps of text, a choice of where to go next, and puzzles. The puzzles so far have mostly been maths based, like here's how to do a digital route, use that to solve the puzzle to get in to the lock to get the key to unlock the key card to unlock the door and escape. That type of thing." http://www.mfgamers.com/index.php?showtopic=39704 a big point of the game is how the story unravels through multiple playthroughs as you choose different options and, so see different parts of the story. it's really good. i started a few days ago and said this: "started VLR a few days ago, not too far in and it's really pretty similar to 999 so far. the puzzle seem more standardised, as in each one has a safe with 2 combinations - one lets you exit, the other is for bonus info - the bonus info ones have been pretty obscure (except the first one) so think i'll use a guide for those. there's also an easy mode where the other characters give you more hints - i managed to accidentally turn this on for the first puzzle. the controls seem quite poor, worse than 999 anyway, you can use the touch screen to swing the view around and it's pretty poorly implemented imo - might as well have stuck with the static screens - maybe it's ok on the ds, i'm playing on vita (because apparently the save bug isn't as bad)." since then i've had a "to be continued" ending that apparently happens when you don't have enough info to carry on, and a really nondescript ending. there's loads more story branches and endings than 999 - and thankfully the method of skipping stuff is miles better - there's a big flow chart of all the possible routes through the game and you can skip straight to any point on the flow chart you've previously completed. so i got the nothing ending started again - skipped straight to where i made a decision that caused the ending and made another choice and carrying on the story from there. i wish i was playing on 3ds tbh - it lets you make notes and view files, i imagine its much easier to take notes, and maybe see the notes at the same time as the main screen on the 3ds - maybe it isn't better, but it seems like it would be. although the 3ds apparently has it worse with the save bug - apparently if you never save during a puzzle its fine in both versions. the story is pretty interesting but so far not as good as 999 for me - i have read that it starts slow and gets ace later though... oh and free on psn+ currently, shame i'd already bought it.
  10. Got this from the PS store, as I couldnt be arsed to go out and get it, it was only 11 quid anyway. So far im really enjoying it, it looks really nice actually, you can tell its a launch game as there are one or two areas that could do with a teensy bit of polish, but I was surprised with some of the camera angles, the one where you hit it a beauty and then follow the balls path through the air is lovely. Its nice pick up and play gameplay but also substantial enough to keep on for a few hours if you wanted, to perfect those courses and theres always stuff to build towards in the shop. Some of the putting can be agonisingly close, I sometimes feel like the game can be a bit overly harsh, I seem to roll into a bunker if im even remotely close to it, a bit like if you take a risk and dont get it perfect then the game will fuck you over, IE you seem to roll a lot more on the edge of the fairway than if you hit nice and down the middle, but again its a game and so I dont really mind it. Some of the early courses so far have been really great to look at, really colourful and cheery it feels like a nice Nintendo game actually.
  11. Started playing this last night, only spent a couple of hours on it, but it is fantastic. I think in the two hours i was on, maybe 45 mins was actual playing, but i don't care i love what Kojima does. Its full of nods and references to the older, but new in time line games, subtle things like to origins of snakes bandanna, a fantastic credit sequence that is a complete James Bond rip off. It's taken me a while to get into the MGS mindset, the controls don't feel quite right, but they do feel like Metal Gear if that makes sense. It has aged pretty well as well, the graphics feel like a ps2 game, but i very good one, i imagine it would look great played on a standard def telly. Also kudos on the sound as well. I'll post something more in-depth and less rambly once i've played some more.
  12. Its one of those point and click adventure games for your personal computer and it looks a little like this. It looks exactly like that, pretty ain't it. I know very little about this sort of think but it is different in the way its story is told, there is no dialogue are even words in this game, its all told with short animated scenes, crunches and bleeps from the characters and enviromental stuff, it all tells the tale perfectly, it almost makes me want to stop using language myself. The puzzles, I don't know how to guage these. You have logical puzzles like moving shapes and all that Layton type stuff and you also have your classic inventory item stuff too, this is where I get stuck. At the moment the last thing I managed to get hold of is a dead/stunned robot cat... I know a dude needs some sunflower oil... WTF is all my console raised brain can manage. I was doing okay at it actually, the game starts out as a single puzzle per screen, you solve it and then moved on. I liked that. Later it does open up and all the inventory items build up with a series of characters that want different items and the little robot man shakes his head at everything I try the items on then I go running back to Halo. In all seriousness though it is a good game and one I hope to see to the end, I think I will because it does have a hint system which is pretty much an ingame Gamefaqs, I won't use it too much though....
