I like the Boom designs. Knuckles not so much, but Sonic looks good. I think his scarf should have been red though, it would have looked much better, and that show was legitimately good. Much more so than it had any right to be.

Live Operations Engineer, so lots of behind the scenes website and game metric monitoring. We'd get asked to do a lot of odd jobs on the night shift, and that night the community guys asked me to track the reaction and compile a report for them for the morning. There was a lot of awkward looks that morning.

I was in the office when the Sonic Boom designs were revealed. It was my job to go through the forums and gauge fan reaction. That was a truly terrible day.

Yeah I gotta admit that after a year and some change ranting about them on a weekly news show I’m kinda sick of talking about them now. So once more the cheap seats. Loot boxes are a fucking terrible mechanic that should not be in premium games. Same with micro transactions. I’m ok with micro transactions in free to play games. If you’re playing a game for free, investing as much time in it as a premium game, and enjoying it as much as a premium game I see no problem with throwing some money at it to support the developers. Even if the money isn’t going straight to the devs themselves it’s showing the publisher continued support of the game is financially viable, so they will continue to support it financially. Micro transactions in premium games can fuck right off though, especially single player games. Look at Dead or Alive 6’s $93 Season Pass for an example of how not to do it. There was a time when all the shite in that pass was a part of the game proper, but it’s been stripped out to rinse even more money out of a loyal fan base. It’s disgusting. But loot boxes are the worst offenders, even in free to play games. Say I play Overwatch and I main Bastion, I could put 10’s of hours into playing and because of the loot box system I could get no skins, emotes, tags, etc for my chosen robo, and the more characters they introduce the lower my odds get. Give me one good reason why character progression (cosmetic or otherwise) should come down to luck. Players should be rewarded for spending their time with a game or character, not forced into a game of chance. Sure, there are people out there who don’t feel the need to buy loot boxes, but there are also those out there who are compelled to, like kids who like to see the pretty colours and gambling addicts desperately rolling the dice. Loot boxes are designed to manipulate these people into spending money they don’t have, and brushing it off as ‘not your problem’ is fucking ignorant. This side of it is a real problem, only last year there was a patent leaked belonging to Activision for an algorithm to party up players with standard kit with those carrying the best loot boxes have to offer in hopes of manipulating sales. Of the $7.6 billion Activision made in 2017 $4 billion came from loot boxes at micro transactions. There are far more consumer friendly systems for extra monetisation, but they all get the fat cats less money. Brushing loot boxes off because they don’t affect you personally is incredibly ignorant. They are made purely to manipulate money out of vulnerable people. I used to be part of the ‘not my problem crowd’, but the more I looked into it the more I realised how corrupt it was. Yes, there are other more serious problems in the world, but that doesn’t mean we should sit by and let greedy CEO’s make an already expensive hobby even more expensive, or in cases of those vulnerable to it genuinely life damaging. Thats all I have to say on this.

I don’t care who he’s playing to be honest. He’s perfectly suited to be an old imperial (rumours a pointing at Thrawn), or an older member of the rebellion and former friend of Leia/Lando, or even a Jedi/Sith who’s been in hiding. No matter who he plays he’s going to be incredible.

In an interview with Japanese publication Dengeki Online (via Google Translate), Nomura revealed that free DLC would likely come to the game as incremental updates as they are completed, and paid DLC would be larger, and possibly grouped together to be released before the end of 2019. One such free update may include a Critical Mode difficulty level. Paid DLC would likely expand the story, potentially filling in details on characters that perhaps weren’t fully explored in the main game. .
