  1. Im actually generally enjoying it, despite the glaring flaws that everyone agrees upon. The enemies I felt were cheap are when you get to some of the bits in that crystal fucking place where the little bastard flies shoot a crystal at you which then envelopes the entire platform you are on, and theres a section when its death drops followed by tiny platforms, and if the flying thing hits you mid air, you die, if it hits the platform you are on you will die. If that mechanic is in a mario game its cheap but you just try until you get through it and then thank fuck you are passed it, however in a game where you can lose all money and have to go through a few rooms to get back and its all about traversing back and forth its super annoying.

Gameplay is going to be the decider for me. Ive never bought or played a game because of the cosmetic items in it, it just doesnt interest me and I dont think ive ever ever spent real life money on a digital cosmetic item. It means I dont care when they do shady stuff as well, I will just play the game if I like it, for reference I played and very much enjoyed Star Wars Battlefront 2 at launch and dont have a problem with it. As long as it doesnt basically force me to have to spend money in order to enjoy the game then im fine, as soon as there is the slightest inkling that its going down that route I will drop it. Still looking forward to playing this weekend. Thats if I can tear myself away from Hollow Knight for long enough.
  3. Just because you said it was a lazy comparison I will go through it. Losing money on death but getting one chance to reclaim it benches are bonfires big high health pool bosses that can kill you in a few hits no direction throughout the game minimal story, dotted around lots of backtracking some eventual shortcuts you open up Now those are just bullet points, perhaps its a bit lazy still so to dig deeper. The general setting of the world is similar, its a world that is in ruins, the area you play in is referenced to as a ruin, its long dead and past its former glory. There is some sort of Curse on the land, the people you infrequently meet in the bowels of the land have generally given up on living or any hope of the future, the creatures in the journal are said to seek out death and are referred to as pitiful spirits. You meet a warrior knight who seeks out glorious death. You are a hollow....knight.
  4. The game punishes exploration, rather than rewards it. No maps until you find the hidden map man, therefore early on in an area you are faced with : Harder, newer enemies More difficult platforming elements No idea where a save is No idea where yo ass is Occasional surprise big bosses that you are locked into without warning. Likelihood of spawning back so far away its the 1950s. These all combine to create a very high chance that you will lose any money you might have collected up until that point. If you need something like the lantern which is 1800 then you are going to be carrying a fair bit of dollar around, and so unless you grind for it (unfun) then you are going to HAVE to enter an unexplored area at some point whilst carrying a large sum of money. As a result exploring new areas is an essential part or progressing the game but is likely to end up punishing the player rather than rewarding them. Even after you've got the lantern out of the way you basically have to get on the money saving hamster wheel because you need to constantly buy badges to be able to get the chance to buy notches to then buy yourself a good collection of powerful badges to face the new areas you have to explore. Whilst there is fun in the game its often in spite of the combination of mechanics that conspire to hinder rather than empower the player, which is where its telling you to fuck off. Its all very simple when you think about it dear. ? PS. People that like dark souls are sadists and probably play video games on pc with half of the required keys removed from the keyboard because its engaging.
  5. Ugh... Do I like this game again now or something? Decided to give it one last shot before giving up, went and got my souls or whatever they are called in this game and after one or two tries beat the boss and the ability I got from it started a little chain reaction of upgrading and at least some glimmer of hope on the horizon of character progression and not feeling so fucking weak. So, I begin the less stressful task of just exploring around, not trying worry about every secret and saving huge sums of souls and it goes well for a bit and I get some nice upgrades, longer sword, extra notch, some health and I'm revisiting areas with my slight increase in mobility. I'm having an okay time but then that begins to dry up and just when I'm comfortable I find that the new areas I can expand into are full of stupid jumps and irritating as fuck cheap ass enemies. When you decide you are going to borrow all the unfun mechanics of dark souls whereby you can and will lose lots of hard earned money and therefore time spent, you have to be really careful that your players aren't dying from shitty platform designs and cheesy as fuck enemy combinations. It's compounded by lack of any direction whatsoever and a strange saving mechanic where you have to manual save but you often just can't do that and the fine line between challenging and frustrating is too often broken for me. I can see what is making people love the game, that hard fought feeling of having earned every bit of progression, of persevering through the game when it's basically telling you to fuck off but this new Dark Souls inspired notion that games SHOULD NOT be fun and should continuously punish you just isn't my kink, and I think a platforming souls-like brings the worst or several worlds to the fore.
  6. From humble beginnings.... Ive now clocked up 593 hours on this bad boy which im pretty sure makes it my most often played game. Still loving and hating it in equal measures, Ive actually banned myself from playing it a good few times because of how angry it gets me but at the same time no other game makes me feel as many things as this one does. Lately ive been ending up solo vs squads just because the other players drop out, and somehow every time it happens I can tell im the only Solo player because the player count will be 97, but I actually still end up enjoying those games because its so exhilarating to take out an unwitting squad all by yourself and knowing that you will insta die but an enemy will just get knocked as well as have back up some how makes the survival aspect of the game way more exciting. I normally get at least one win a night and lately ive been getting at least three kills, had a great game on the Vikendi (snow) map the other day where me and two other players all had sniper rifles and by some crazy chance two loots drops landed and we just set up a triangle and I think we got something like 10 kills each just waiting for people to try and loot these crates it was awesome, not for them though probably. I like how there is actually a real variety seeing as how each map plays differently, if you play a game on Miramar (Desert) it feels so different than a game on Sahnok (Jungle). Some of the custom modes are quite fun, getting 100 players for a zombie match is cool even if it might require a bit of co-ordination between the Zombies to be fun. Feels like the game is definitely on the wane but I feel like its good for the game overall, the players that are left are generally speaking on the friendly side whereas in the game's earlier days you would get team after team of utter dickhead and now you can pretty much get a decent team most times. Ive had some good nights chatting to randoms from America or France or Germany, occasionally there is the odd brit, but not as often.
  7. Just beginning to enjoy it and make my piece with all the stupid platforming flaws and i came across this boss with no warning that was stupidly hard to kill and the last place id just so happened to save was in a totally different world and I am not fucking going all the way back there, had 1200 money as well. The sooner dark souls mechanics fuck the fuck off the better

ive pre-downloaded the Demo hopefully ready for a big play session at the weekend.
  10. I ordered this on my stupid game rental thing and didnt get a copy because I didnt win the stupid lottery based system and so as a result I seem to have only retained negative reviews or impressions in my head.
  11. A friend has been wanging on about this for ages so ive just downloaded it from G2A for £6 sterling, its downloading now dontcha know.

As hendo said, this isn't a resourcing or provisioning issue, they will have auto load balancing and auto scaling servers but if you've got dodgy code, sounds like they've not handled concurrency or maybe transience errors, and you are creating hundreds of ddos attacks then there are limits to how much and how quickly you can scale up or out. No matter how you set up, infinite loops like this will eventually grind everything to a halt.
  15. Dammit, this has been on my PS4 for about two and a half years and ive not played it but maybe I will give it a go now that a few here are all doing at the same time...
  16. Traditionally speaking the master ball is for Mewtwo because its the hardest to catch but I think I used it on Zapdos when I played Red or Blue and still managed to catch Mewtwo so should be fine.
  17. I didnt realise how similar this was to the Original red/blue on the gameboy. Its a cool nostalgia trip but I havnt long since played Blue and the early part is a little bit of a drag. Once I get somewhere that I can catch 5 billion Dratini however, I expect I will be in my element. I hope that they support this with some decent DLC in the future, it would be nice to be able to take part in various events etc.
  18. Did you think it said 'cock full'?

    Games rental

Don't call it a comeback. I've been a bit out of the gaming loop lately, no real reason, I've actually been playing games a lot to be honest but it's just been PUBG on pc as it's all I've been interested in playing. I figure that to get back into playing all the console stuff I've missed will probably cost me the same as it would to buy a small island. So, to remedy this I've decided to start an account with boomerang games rental. I've always thought that games rental would suit me because I pretty much have always traded what I play in towards the next game and so have effectively rented them anyway, generally speaking losing upwards of a tenner on each game I play. I've gone for a package that's a tenner a month, allows me to have new games on launch, as many as I want a month but only one at a time, which again is roughly in line with how I would have played before, I don't often tend to switch from game to game really. At this rate I will spend 120 a year on gaming and be able to play all the biggest games at launch as long as I return the previous one in time and plan my list properly. I'm thinking of mainly playing Switch games initially because of the portability factor and also because on the whole it offers a different type of gameplay experience than PC shooter. Don't know if this is something that appeals to people here or not, I know that for certain individuals the idea of game rental is an abhorrence but the more I've thought about it the more it seems the ideal model for me.

    Destiny 2

    So, whats free and how?
  21. Cancelled pre-order, had six in a row unfun games, just didn't click with it. Felt too muddy and murky and I've been out of the cod loop for a good five years or so now so the gameplay feels very alien. Might check the PC version if they make some changes for the release but it just makes me want to play pubg and I was hoping it would have the opposite effect.
  22. Few more games, love the additional shit added to the genre bit finding it hard to see anyone and lining up a shot if I ever do is ridiculous.
  23. Don't know if it's just going back to console shooter or what but this is shit and I am not enjoying it at all. I can never see a player and I can't hit them for shit, after only about an hour I'm dying to get back to PC pubg. Will try the pc beta and see what's what but I'm disappointed because this looked amazing.
  24. Is it news to anybody that your cloud saves will be erased when your online subscription expires? https://mynintendonews.com/2018/09/14/your-cloud-saves-will-be-erased-when-your-nintendo-switch-online-subscription-expires/
