Telltale Games is going back in time for a new series of video games.

The developer is creating episodic titles based on the "Back to the Future" and "Jurassic Park" franchises. The popular Universal Studios film trilogies spawned several games in their heyday in the '80s and '90s but have been absent from the interactive realm. The as-yet-untitled Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, PC and Mac games are set to be released this winter.

"I think it's a prime time to reintroduce these properties in the digital world," said Dan Connors, CEO at Telltale Games. "Telltale Games has always set out to be a great storytelling company. We've been honing our chops over the past six years, and we're ready to take on these two iconic properties and continue to advance storytelling in games."

Yay?

Add to these a poker game featuring Strong Bad, Tycho (from Penny Arcade), Max (from Sam & Max) and the Heavy from Team Fortress 2. Very strange.

Telltale Games, the maker of Sam & Max, has revealed Poker Night at The Inventory for PC and Mac. The game's coming this autumn.

The interesting part is that Telltale has somehow dragged Valve and Penny Arcade on board: a move that means Team Fortress 2's Heavy and Penny Arcade's Tycho will appear in the game.

At the table beside them will be Max and Strong Bad from Homestar Runner.

"We've had the idea for some time of exploring the idea of what video characters do when they're not 'on the clock' in the games we play," commented Telltale boss Dan Connors. "We pitched the idea to friends in the industry and it really resonated. We all had a great time imagining what these guys would banter about while slinging cards – from there Poker Night at The Inventory was born."

There are "plenty" of surprises planned.

You can pre-order Poker Night at The Inventory for $4.95 from the Telltale Store right now.

They're very busy people.

Yesterday was a big day for episodic game developer Telltale. Not only did it announce a new game series based on Walking Dead and show off the first playable version of Jurassic Park, it also announced four other new titles. Of particular interest to the IGN Editors is a reboot of the classic point-and-click franchise, King's Quest, although, sadly, no details were discussed other than the reboot's existence. Here's everything we know about Telltale's upcoming lineup:

King's Quest

Not a port of the original, this will be an entire reboot of the franchise. Expect more details at E3 in June.

Puzzle Agent 2

Last summer Puzzle Agent, a bizarre take on the Professor Layton formula, was released on PC and iOS platforms (it'll make its way to the PlayStation Network this spring). The sequel, Puzzle Agent 2, is coming this summer to all the same platforms. It again stars Agent Tethers and takes place in the snowy Midwest.

More Hector: Badge of Carnage

The first episode of Hector, a mature, gritty point-and-click adventure, was released independently by developer Straandlooper on the iPhone last summer ( IGN gave it an 8.5). Telltale is partnering with Straandlooper to first bring Episode 1 to iPad, PC, and Mac this spring. Two more Episodes will be released later this year.

Fables

Telltale will bring the Vertigo comic book series to PC, Mac, and consoles in Q1 of 2012. Fables stars famous characters from fairy tales and mythology that have been forced out of their Homelands. Expect more details at Comic-Con in July.

Plus as mentioned at the top, Jurassic Park and Walking Dead on the way. Hector gets a lot of love on iOS, might have to try it.

Wow, they're really ramping up the number of projects. Another Puzzle Agent is very welcome, I liked the bizarre creepy world it took place in.

Episode 1 of BTTF is free on PC now, so I'm going to try that this week. My interest in the Jurassic Park games increased when they started talking about heavy rain being an influence.

I haven't read any of those comics, so don't really know what to expect there. Telltale have proven themselves worth watching though.

This might be a useful thread to revive since they make so much good stuff now.

Launch trailer for The Walking Dead: Michonne, out tomorrow.

The Walking Dead: Michonne is based on the long-running series of comics that inspired the television show, and not the television show itself, even though it's more deeply embedded in mainstream cultural awareness. Because of that, it will likely be of particular interest to readers, because it covers the character's absence from issues 126 to 139, revealing what drove her away from her trusted friends, and what brought her back. Find out more at telltalegames.com.
