  2. Well I've been playing for quite a while now and it's great! Seems to be loads of levels, I like the rewards that make you go back and get your pipette full up with little gold medals on it! Control feels fine with the wiimote, though slightly easier with the classic controller. Shame there's no 2 player. Still not convinced with the art style yet... It may grow on me. So yeah, another great Wii game!

ordered f zero and wave race for the cube today, oh yes
  4. Very much first impressions after about 45 minutes on the game.... It's very different to Kororinpa, you hold the wiimote in the "Excite Truck" position. The blob is slow, but it feels weighty.... You can use the Classic Controller too, where the L stick controls the tilt, I've not tried this yet. so far, so good!

  7. Last year from a bootsale i got the following - Dreamcast with all leads 2 pads rumble unit vmu MSR ChuChu Rocket Sonic Adventure Phantasy Star Online All for £4. The DC didn't work, but I searched the net and found out it was a dead simple error and fixed it and so had it all working. I've seen sold off various parts of that as the DC doesn't really interest me, and probably got around £30 for all the bits in all. I've also picked up the Zelda collectors edition for £3.

    EDGE 177 scores

Got my subs copy today and it's a great issue this month. A fantastic feature on Nintendo and it's ability to stay in profit! Also, at the start of the reviews section, a nice little comment about DS piracy! AAlso some great reviews for Nintendo games, for a change

Absolutely, I was concerned it was a fake though as it got delivered with a flat box and inner, but I guess this was just to save postage Centy wrote: Lucky fuck i sold mine on the bay for a lovely 26 quid Awesome, I was tempted at first to flog it, but to be honest I do need to play Majoras mask so I will probably keep this now. On a separate note, I really need a new GC memory card, I would ideally like an official 251, but they still go for quite a bit on ebay, so does anyone know where I might get one for a stupidly awesome price?

Pocket Essentials guide to gaming, quite a good bog read this. One of the best games ever, in portable form, and not a fake as I first thought. At last I got this, from a boot sale this morning for £3!
  13. Aye, same here, not played the N64 version, though Illdog said in the podcast that they are quite similar.... But seriously Sam, you MUST play the GC game, it's amazing

    Intelligent Systems

Nope, the GBA/DS ones were by AlphaDream, who also do the Hamtaro games! Here is Intelligent Systems Gameology - Nintendo Entertainment System (Famicom) * Famicom Wars (Japan Only) - The first game in the Wars series, never released in the U.S. * Fire Emblem: Ankoku Ryū to Hikari no Tsurugi, meaning "The Dragon of Darkness and the Sword of Light" (Japan Only) * Fire Emblem Gaiden (Japan Only) * Devil World (Japan/Europe Only) * Wild Gunman Super Nintendo Entertainment System (Super Famicom) * Super Famicom Wars (Japan Only) - The sequel to the Japan only turn-based strategy game. * Super Metroid - The third entry in the Metroid series. (Designed by R&D1, programmed by Intelligent Systems) * Panel de Pon (Japan Only) - A puzzle game starring a young girl named Lip. It was released in the United States under the names Tetris Attack and Pokémon Puzzle League, and re-released in the Japan only Nintendo Puzzle Collection. * Tetris Attack - The American adaptation of Panel de Pon, using characters from Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. Starred Yoshi and Little Yoshi in various quests against Bowser and his minions in order to save their friends, doing puzzle fights between them and the enemies (The Game Boy version was later released in Japan as "Yoshi no Panepon"). * Battle Clash - Known as Space Bazooka in Japan. It uses the Super Scope accessory. * Fire Emblem: Monshou no Nazo (Japan only) - Contains a remake of and sequel to the original Fire Emblem game. * Fire Emblem: Seisen no Keifu (Japan only) - Spans two generations of characters. * Fire Emblem: Thracia 776 (Japan only) - The very last game ever released for the Super Famicom/SNES. It takes place between chapters 5 and 6 of Fire Emblem: Seisen no Keifu. * Metal Combat: Falcon's Revenge - The sequel to Battle Clash. [edit] Nintendo 64 * Paper Mario - The quasi-sequel to Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, featuring a new Paper style of visuals, and new style of gameplay. * 64 Wars (Cancelled) - The Nintendo 64 sequel to Game Boy Wars. Not much is known about it, as the game was never released. * Fire Emblem 64 (Cancelled) - The Nintendo 64 instalment in the Fire Emblem series. No screenshots were released, and it was cancelled. However, early screenshots of Fire Emblem: Fuuin no Tsurugi display a radical change in graphics and style from the game's final build, as well as include characters that were nowhere to be seen in the game. This, along with the game's original title, "Maiden in the Darkness," and the fact that at one point in Fuuin no Tsurugi one character is surreptitiously given that title, has caused speculation that perhaps much of the game's story and/or mechanics was transferred onto the Gameboy Advance GameCube * Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door - The sequel to Paper Mario. * Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance - The ninth game in the Fire Emblem series. * WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Party Game$ * Nintendo Puzzle Collection (Panel de Pon) Wii * Fire Emblem: Goddess of Dawn The tenth game in the Fire Emblem series. * WarioWare: Smooth Moves * Super Paper Mario Game Boy * Game Boy Wars * Alleyway * Tetris Attack * Kaeru no Tame ni Kane wa Naru * Golf Virtual Boy * Galactic Pinball Game Boy Color * Pokémon Puzzle Challenge Game Boy Advance * Advance Wars * Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising * WarioWare: Twisted! * Metroid Fusion * Fire Emblem: Fuuin no Tsurugi (Japan only) * Fire Emblem - The first Fire Emblem series game to see a North American release * Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones * Mario Kart Super Circuit * Dr. Mario & Puzzle League (worked on the Puzzle League part only) Nintendo DS * Advance Wars: Dual Strike * Planet Puzzle League * WarioWare: Touched!
  15. We all love games right, it's why we're here, but how rare is it to actually pause for thought for a few moments in the day and actually think about the people who make these games? This weekend I have been playing Panel De Pon DS, Paper Mario, Advance Wars and Warioware. What do they have in common? Well, apart from all being stunning games they are all developed by a company called Intelligent Systems. I thought I'd have a look on the net to learn a bit about them, and it turns out they were started by several Nintendo R&D1 people, which explains an awful lot really. They are one of these developers who seem to have that special magic touch, and can create stunning games in the same way that EA can produce FIFA updates. As well as the afore mentioned games they are also responsible for Super Metroid, the Fire Emblem games as well as the Super Gameboy add on for the SNES. They are also responsible for my second most eagerly awaited game, Super Paper Mario, and hopefully an Advance Wars DS 2 is in the works (with WFC) Learn more here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intelligent_Systems So yeah, what do you guys think of them? Are they the best devco out there right now? Do their games hold a place in your heart?
  16. This, like Pikmin 2, has been a GC game I've wanted to play for years, and at last now have the chance to. And hell, what a game it is. Basically an RPG much like the GBA/DS (along with the N64 and SNES) Mario RPG's, but behind that lays one of the best, most original, involving and downright enjoyable games I've played. I love the graphics, the whole paper aspect, the moment you get cursed with the paper plane ability, the moment you learn to press R to become flat, the way you go into the background of the level when travelling through a pipe, it all smacks of cleverness so well implemented that you just can't get rid of a smile. Then there's the script, I'm still not that far into it but already 3 or 4 characters have become my favourites, including the video game addict in Petalburg, who tells me the Fire Emblem games are awesome.... Maybe Centy got a hand in the script writing The battle system, usually my pet hate with most RPG's is so involving and original that it never becomes a chore. The action commands are brilliantly executed and never feel gimmicky, which is often a risk with that kind of thing. There's depth here too, with the huge potential of customisation using different partners and the excellent badge system, which reminds me of the job system in FFVI (or 3 for us Westerners, before Square decided to revert back to the original numbering), only much much better. It enables you to basically customize your party to be totally unique, and as I get further into the game I can't wait to really make Mario my own! There are also some fantastically clever little bits of things that can't grouped into the above, like the fact the first boss is scared of Crickets, and there just happens to be a badge that turns Marios hammer sound effect into that of a Cricket... I've clocked up about 7 hours thus far, and I haven't once stopped smiling, even when I'm struggling in a battle or strolling through areas I've already been too, every single moment has been pure joy. This is simply a stunning RPG, a stunning Mario, a stunning GC and above all, and probably most simply, a stunning game. 10/10
  17. Been playing this over the weekend, and whilst the style is lovely and everything works really well, it's soooo hard I'm just no good at these games.

    Pikmin 2

I finally completed this yesterday, and boy, it has been one of the best and most inventive games I've played for years. (That line might be used in another thread shortly) Everything about it has been a joy, even the frustrating bits were awesome. Wonderful stuff and if you have a GC you MUST play this.
  19. I've played it quite a bit today, and I can now say I don't like it at all really. It's shit. One of the worst games I've actually bought, I'll probably only keep it for a few weeks to play some of you lot. The gameplay is just too random, there's no skill involved at all, most of the stadiums are simply too busy in that the geographical effects etc are too disruptive, the control is broken for want of a better word, the repeatedly having to press A to choose your player stinks, that FUCKING CUT SCENE, the music, the style... At no point in the game do I ever feel connected to what's going on, it's just stuff happening that relies more on the opponant than anything you do. It's horrible. Very very disappointed, the exact opposite feeling I got from Eledees Maybe it will grow on me, I want it to, but at the moment it's a huge thumbs down from me. Now... When is Mercury Revolution out?
  20. I can't decide if I like this or not. The positives - Online is good, pretty much lag free, some slight frame rate issues when things get busy but nothing game destroying. I like the fact it tells you if your friends are online. Shame there's no communication but there we go, it is free I spose. It's also quite fun to play in both multi and single. The negatives - the music is awful, the graphics are pure Gamecube (that's going to be an issue, no matter how much I wish it wasn't), that cut scene whenever you do a charged thing is already driving me insane, the ball gets lost far too easily, the movement of the players is frustrating and not that responsive.... So yeah, the jury is still very much out on this one, I must admit that I wouldn't have bothered with it at all if it wasn't online, but I am going to persevere with it and hopefully something will click...

    Puzzle Quest

I close to giving up on this game, I've been grinding away for days and still beat that fucking boss, it just cheats, for want of a better word...
  25. i'll expand these in the podcast, but my thoughts - Stories can be told really well in games, but not all games need them. I've always thought the GTA games would be much better without all that story and cut scene shite, and a Mario game or some such doesn't need any more of a story then it gets. Some games really over do poor stories, I'm thinking most recent Sonic games here, and Super Monkey Ball Adventure/Banana Blitz. They add nothing and aren't even needed to drive the game forward. My favourite story in a game though, and this will confuse people after the above, but Metal gear Solid has to be it. The three games are hard to choose between, but I would put them in the order of 1, 3 then 2. People complain about the story aspects of MGS games, but they are such a part of the game, and more over they are just so damn gripping and well constructed. At times you're thinking "what the hell is going on" and that's a feeling I love when watching a film that has that feel mastered. My favourite films include Magnolia, Apocalypse Now, All of Kubricks (even Barry Lyndon ) and I personally can see a theme running through them all and the MGS games has that same theme, that same vision. Nothing can match the story of the first MGS game, the way it weaves in and out of fiction and non-fiction, the jokes, the hints, the pop-culture references.... Nothing else I've played comes even remotely close.
