I'll explain in a way for those that don't know what a Skinner box is. I assume most of you do so bear with me. A Skinner box is a social experiment where something or someone is put inside a scenario where doing an action results in a reward, say pressing a button when a light flashes. Every time the light flashes and the button is press something like food will reward the button presser. However, sometimes the light will flash and the button will be pressed and no reward will be given. Because the button presser has been conditioned to expect food. Food still comes from pressing the button when the light flashes, but the frequency decreases over time. Think of it like levelling up in a game or getting pieces of loot. When you first start out the game is overwhelming, you go up several levels in one night and end up upgrading the items you have scores at a time. A month down the line you're still playing the game but you're only levelling up once a week and maybe quite possibly getting 1 piece of loot that makes playing worthwhile. By bribing this mechanism you are skipping the button pressing that wouldn't normally result in a reward for instant reward at the cost of real money. The reason I titled the thread with Bribing the Skinner Box is that I really didn't know what to call this thread. I looked over my post and that jumped out as a title as it sums the topic up without being a dull thread title.
