Superliminal

I managed to play a couple of cracking little games on GamePass over the weekend. First up is Superliminal - a cracking little puzzler that I managed to play through in a couple of hours and what a treat this was. It borrows heavily from games such as Portal but by the time you see the achievement for beating the game, it's earned it's place up there with the best of them.

The concept is you're someone that's involved in a lucid dreaming experiment and you have 'wake up' in a location that presents you with a series of puzzles based on perspective and your surroundings. It twists these challenges in a way that each never out stays its welcome and the final two levels were sublime. I can't say much more than that to avoid spoiling it (i'd even suggest not watching the trailer) but if you liked Portal/The Witness - that kind of thing, i'd strongly suggest giving it a go. One of the best endings to a game i've seen in a while as well!

I finally got around to trying this, on Switch. I did enjoy some it, although not as much as I hoped.

I was happier that it was over, rather than gutted there wasn't more to do.

 

I thought it was OK, it's nowhere near perfect enough to be great.

Portal was great, so was Talos Principle as both of those nailed the physics, the story, the pacing and the toolset.

 

The way some of the puzzles work here isn't predictable enough, even if you know what to do, doing it is often a total pain.
I thought the story was alright, quite strangely paced, mainly abstract until the last 5 minutes.

I'd probably give it a 6 or 7, likely the latter as some of it was really inventive.

I've finally picked this up on PSN, cheapest it's been i think around £8.

 

Makes me miss the old portal games, wish there was a third one or even a remaster.

Near the end of this now i think, while its not a bad game and some of the puzzles have been good, ive played quite a lot of these fps puzzle games and this is probably the worst one ive played so far. Or possibly im not in the mood for it. Had to look up the solution to one thing so far and it comes up when you type the name of the game into google so other people had problems with that one too!
