  1. I'll put this thought here instead than in the Avengers game thread, but WRT @DisturbedSwan was saying surely now these new films will have to be on Disney+ for the foreseeable future.

Because of social distancing measures having to be around for a while. There's going to have to be some sort of big shift like that.

I really dont know how cinemas are going to work for the next while at least (really want to see that new Dune film)

  2. I'm late to the party on this but I just noticed that Tifa's unbridled strength doesn't just make her triangle attacks better, it also seems to change the behaviour of overpower and other melee attacks. I can't find anything in the in game manual about it though, her battle system still confuses me a lot.

I just watched Damiani at Eazy allies play through the ending just now

    Spoiler

Wow he is so upset by it. :(

  3. Yeah, there is a 'warding' materia which can be linked with 'binding' to protect against that maybe.

Even at end game this game forces you to be super economical with materia builds (which I really like, the original was just about dumping loads of materia on your equipment. Think it was 16 at max level).

  4. Two appears to be the max, however there is a lot of pink materia which increases ATB gain while guarding, while doing stagger and using a number of ATB actions. At the level my characters are at I rarely find it a problem anymore. Also there is haste.

Any chance you were doing that mission where you fight three scorpion looking things which keep sending you to sleep? I did that mission for the first time last night, it's basically a waiting game

  5. Yeah it's incredible, every decision you make really matters, from combat to materia. Anyone who calls this a button masher just hasn't played it enough imo.

I'm on chapter 8, doing side missions. I skipped them on first run but even these side mission monsters have a lot to think about.

  6. Wasnt there a rumour of a re-master Crysis 1. The first game only uses 2 cores, or something like that, so it horribly underuses modern processors

  7. Tbh I'm not sure what you're referring to.

I took another one of that fight, Barret has the highest atk gun in this (or at least it's the highest ATK gun I found for him, I skipped lots of side content which I'm only doing now)

    Spoiler

But what I mean is that Barret is very low mobility and his entire playstyle is based around turtling up as a turret. Tbh he's a bore to play as but I get why he's designed like this. Cloud and Tifa are more glass cannon types (with variance depending on weapons/materia).

  8. I am constantly changing materia. Basically I'd say match your materia to the weapon type. I am using hard edge for Cloud, which is high ATK and low MAG. So I have him loaded up on pink materia for special attacks (as well as elemental linked with lightning).

Buster Sword is a good all rounder and should probably have a mix of magic/pink materia.

Not that anyone asked but I'd also say give Barret lots of support materia like haste/barrier. He's kind of crap as a damage dealer but great at tanking/support, imo

  9. You should keep all your thoughts on the ending in the spoiler block (imo)

    Spoiler

I think the execution of it is bad but I really like the implications of the ending.

Also a lot of the original team are on the remake, at least in producer/director roles anyway.

  10. Yeah I'm on controller too and aim assist is nice and generous. Combined with the slow down rune it makes thing playable (GB also overenphasise how it feels on controller imo). If anything all the cooldowns seem to make controller a better fit

  11. It's not true that every enemy has a weapon weakness, what they have are weak spots you can break off but generally the game is "use what you want".

If that is in the codex then I dont know but almost every weapon has something to bring to a fight.

But yea the combat loop is very busy for a Doom game.

The Dwarf has put it as well as I ever could.
I know what Swan means regarding having the tools to deal with him - you do - but my issue is with how he changes the entire dynamic of the game - for the worse. & while some weapons are better than others against specific enemies you never have to use a particular weapon for any others. And the distance just seems so inconsistent to get him to do the green eye thing. Even if you could save ammo and use the BFG or Sword on him it would have made it more bearable and even though it doesn’t matter, it’d actually make sense within the game universe. I can kill a titan with the sword but not a little mini boss? Seems a bit off.

Its not that he’s even that hard, by the end I could quite easily batter him one on one. I actually found the Archville to be much harder and in some cases worse. But at least you can fight him like a normal enemy. Its just how the Marauder changes the gameplay. It’s shit, pure and simple. IMO of course.

Fucking brilliant game still. Just have to emphasise that because everything I see lately just seems to slag it off for some reason ?

Yes, Archville is a tougher enemy that ruins your day more often but your're still stuck in that classic DOOM loop.

Tbf a lot of big stylish action games (which I compare Eternal to) also have an enemy like Marauder which ruins the combat loop. Any DMC game, or Bayonetta (tbf Bayo enemy design is better than DMC most cases). Ninja Gaiden has those shit ghost fish. It's not just a problem with this game, but it is a problem.

  13. I mean I dont know I agree that every enemy has a weapon weakness, other than that one on the trolley and its plasma gun weakness. Felt more to me that each weapon has properties for different situations rather than enemies.

Eg, ballista can recoil you across the map, SSG makes you a Tarzan. Chain gun is high DPS low mobility etc etc. There is a big emphasis on pulling the different parts together into your own unique solution for a combat puzzle.

But Marauder funnels you into a single playstyle, which is why a lot of people (including some on resetera, if that even matters) dont feel the enemy fits in well

  14. I agree, the game is like all you can eat buffet of violence except for that one enemy

Someone mentioned colour coded enemies from DmC, reminds me of that.

  15. Clipped the chapter 7 boss in hard mode.

    Spoiler

When this game is good it is incredible.

Anyway, I'll probably look to plat this. Although that trophy with the dresses seems like it will be annoying.

After I plat it maybe I'll look back at something more slow paced and plat OG FFVII. I nearly got it before I dropped it

  16. So just beat it now. The last chapter and a half were tremendous and emotionally overwhelming if the game this is a remake of means anything to you at all.

I still kind of stand by what I said tho, I do think it's a bit like a Yakuza game but that's not a series I could ever get into. The padding did hurt the experience for me. But when the game is good it is immense. Easily the best combat I've ever seen in an RPG, when the fight design is good enough to show it off (which it generally is, especially

    Spoiler

    Rufus, omg what a fight)

The best description I've seen of it is that it is less a remake and more like the HBO or anime adaptation of FFVII (tim Roger's twitter).

Now for spoilers, danger high voltage

The characters are definitely brilliant, I especially like how Wedge and Jessie are developed.
However, there was something about the ending that didn’t sit right with me. Obviously it’s a spoiler, and this didn’t happen in the original. So I’ll obviously tag it, and say avoid until you’ve completed it.

    Spoiler

The thing is this: FFVII Remake isnt just a remake, it is a sequel set in a parallel universe. The ghosts that haunt you throughout the story are trying to ensure the events of this remade universe are going according to plan. Hence all the 'defy destiny' stuff.

Eg, when Cloud fought Reno he went to chop his head off at the end, the whisperers came in and stopped him because Reno still had stuff to do in the original FFVII story. The whisperers attacked sector 7 to make sure Cloud would be on the second mission, things like that. They even killed Jessie. Cause that's how it occurred.

This is also why they are visited by visions of things like the ending with Meteor and Aeriths death. It already happened in a different timeline.

So the reason Biggs is alive (and Zach, he is alive now too) is cause Sephiroth made the party fight the whisperers to stop them from allowing him to change fate. Cause the version of Sephiroth in this game has either seen the future or is the version from Advent Children trying to make it so he wins this time, cause he knows if fate follows the same path that he will lose.

Its hinted that Aerith had also already seen the future. She has knowledge of stuff the party doesnt, probably knows she will die too (unless that is changed too in the new timeline)

This is the KH stuff people were talking about. This means the next part of the remake might just be completely new stuff cause the destiny ghosts are all dead now.

So uh yea that's why Biggs isnt dead lol

I'll add that this is the best version of Cloud to exist, like the original without that game's weird translation.

Now to play hard mode, I need to see what Airbuster is like on that
