  1. "Legend of Grimrock" was one of those games I always fancied when it came out - but my PC by then wasn't up to it - so I'll definitely check this out on Switch (or maybe just get it on Steam for a couple of quid as I'm sure my missus' laptop will run it, and guess it'll be >£15 on NS).

  2. I'm predominantly a console gamer nowadays - but I read a synopsis of Kenshi and it does seem similar (albeit in a post apocalyptic setting).

  3. So I was intending to play BG3 which my missus has started on her account (same console) but when I went to play it said it would delete her "quick resume" save - so noting the other potential save issues thought I'd better not do that !

Apparently you can only have 1 quick resume save per game per console - so I'm guessing BG3 will be a few months away for me now.

  4. And I'm back already.....

So back to Wartales for a bit longer.

  5. 105 hrs and that's the final area (Drombach) wrapped up - only main thing outstanding is the arena events - I've completed a couple of them, but they aren't really much fun - so I'll give the others a miss and move on (noting that the game doesn't ever 'end' it just keeps giving you new minor quests).

Really enjoyed this - but acknowledging it's probably a bit niche.

  6. Mr Bates Vs The Post Office (ITV / ITV X)

Superb 4 part drama telling the true life story of the Post Office Horizon scandal - where sub-postmasters were held personally accountable for financial irregularities caused by a dodgy Fujitsu computer system - whilst the PO insisted, for years, it was fine.

Sadly the story still continues as those affected try to rebuild their lives and livelihoods, but if was a great drama, and Toby Jones was his usual excellent self as the lead character.

    Spoiler

It seems utterly incomprehensible how the PO ruthlessly treated those involved - often without any real evidence (aside from saying their numbers didn't balance).

There was no burden of proof that the sub-postmasters had actually taken the money yet they were held liable - and no mitigation that pre Horizon they had successfully run their PO without any issue.

Sadly the program puts the burden of responsibility on the PO (& UK Government) whilst Fujitsu seem to somewhat escape blame free - although further inquiries are pending.

  7. My missus has starting playing BG3 on Xbox S and seems like the sound occasionally drops out every so often.

Is this a known issue that anyone else had experienced ?

I've had it occur when playing older BC games on Gamepass - but not with anything released specifically for S/X until now.

  8. It's an okay game, just gets very repetitive quite quickly, so if you do get it, then maybe just stick to the main quest (as side quests are pretty much all the same pattern) - it does initially bristle with some great ideas, but goes downhill rapidly.

  9. Super Mario Bros Movie (2023)

It was okay, but overall I can't say it was any more or less enjoyable than the 1993 version.

A few nice nods to the game series and a bunch of 'easter eggs', but ultimately completely unessential and forgettable.

  10. Became arena champion in Vertruse (Smot) - which was the first one I came across ages ago, but now suitably levelled up it wasn't too bad.

Also found a Sepulchre Door (Vertruse)  - which you can only unlock after solving the various codex, so fortunately I had, so in I went !

I've now moved into Drombach, which is the final area.

  11. From - think someone mentioned this on here a while ago, I searched but couldn't find it though.

Anyway just finished the first 2 series, 2x 10 ep, and really quite enjoyed it.

It's a weird horror drama, where people are stuck in a small town, and get hunted in the night - and as the episodes evolve they reveal more about how the inhabitants have adapted and cope, and what they are doing to understand the bizarre situation they are in, and the background of those around them.

Main "star" name is Harold Perrineau - excellent as the 'sheriff', and the rest of the cast are terrific too.

It's pretty creepy at times, and slowly reveals itself, but is now hanging on a third series (been renewed, due sometime in 2024).

  12. 90 hrs and still going - albeit I've hit a bit of a difficulty spike whilst trying to solve a murder in Grinmeer.

Progress seems to require becoming champion of the arena - where you have to fight through 4 consecutive rounds of combat (with restricted opportunity to heal or fix armour between fights).

In addition there's a special rule in this particular arena that enemies aren't retreated when down to 1 HP - and they heal at the end of each round, unless you get them all down to 1 HP in the same round.

And so I eventually worked out the tactics in order to do it, and progressed to the final round - when out rolls out Ornstein & Smoughs much bigger brothers (they'd got 500 armour, 400 HPs each, whereas my best fighter has 150 each, and I can do ~50-100 damage per round) - erm yep, even starting with full armour & hits these would be challenging - but by now each of my party either had some armour or some hits left - and, of course the enemies had a massive movement range, and big hits, so there was nowhere to hide.

Oh well, the benefit is I can clean up the rest of the area, and move on to a new area, and maybe I'll someday be strong enough to put up a challenge - just not now.

On the plus side I won another couple of games of Rouste Ball, hunted and killed the Ghost Pack, completed the Tomb of Ancients, and took out the Rat Nest - so it's not been completely frustrating.

  13. Not too much Switch for me this year (my Mrs went big on TotK from June, so I pretty much stopped using it, aside from multiplayer Mario Kart - via her sign in).

  14. Moved to a new area, Grinmeer Province, and there's a new mini game called Rouste Ball - which is a 6v6 version of Bloodbowl but played with 2 balls!

Pretty amazing how they kept adding new things to the areas to keep your interest (plus it now suggested I'd unlocked Rouste pitches in other regions too).

  15. Yes, and if they were really smart about it, they could have done a tie-in with WotC that segways into an introduction into the D&D TTRPG ruleset - so you could take your party on to further, offline, adventures.

I need some sort of compendium or need to print off a cheat sheet with all the terms and status effect descriptions. Don’t suppose anyone’s got a link to a good one?

It tends to be a problem with CRPGs that they don't particularly highlight conditions & effects clear enough (often just a tiny icon on the character portrait that's barely visible) and no clear notification as to whether it's something you can live with for a bit, or a poison type damage over time that'll kill you (I've had some games where if you rest whilst poisoned you'll die) - so an occasional check & run through of character sheets is recommended.
