  1. I remember when I was a kid I asked my mother for a ventriloquist dummy for Christmas, but only one that could speak by itself, like the ones I'd seen many times on Sunday night TV.

Is there anything like that, but in fight game controllers?

I always recommend, by focusing on three things for three different situations that come up regularly doing a match. That way you don't overload your mind with multiple options

That's true - although my mind gets overloaded trying to do a dragon punch at the moment.

You have to be careful with the trials though because not all of the older challenges still apply to the current build.

I have the champion edition, which is pretty new, I think.

The other important thing @bellowis when you go online and get cooked be sure to record it and upload it to the forum. It’s just so we can analyse it and help you improve it won’t be too laugh or make fun at all 👀

You do realise that now my only goal in life is to digitally destroy you until the very pixels of your being can never be reconstructed. You may need to put your affairs in order.

  4. Naturally I don't believe you, but I will spar with you in a week or 2.

I don't think you guys understand the level I'm coming from here, or lack of level. But I have another problem. I have to source and lay (neatly, so the Mrs doesn't know I've done it) a very long internet cable thru several rooms to get to my gaming space. I'm just too far away from the hub to go wireless, even with a booster. This will be my final commitment to a full adventure with streetfighter 6.

When I get a minute to perform this operation I'll probably be at least competent enough to lose artfully.

    God, I miss lockdown😞

  5. Yes, I'll just be getting a few bread and butter combos under my belt for ken and Cammy before going online. That will be more than a few weeks work with my current (rather paltry) gaming time.

I don't know if you're a follower of the game but you'd be surprised just how many useable combos (or combos you'll see the pros use in matches) they've put into challenge mode. I don't see how it can hurt to get some under the fingers before going online.

Of course I fully expect to be unable to implement them in the heat of battle......at first.

  6. So after some enjoyable weeks with SF4, I've moved my training onto this - a game I've been an avid spectator of since it came out (just watched a mind boggling SE Asia top 8 this very day)!

Definitely helped learning the basics on 4, and it feels to me that this game is rather easier (of course that could just be that I've nailed some basic moves). Having said that I was doing Cammy's first 10 part challenge mode and I pulled off one of her classic combos into ultra on my third try - a move I've been watching pros do for years. When I left 4 I hadn't managed Ken's FADC ultra even once (or Ryu's).

I can feel a bit of rhythm to the combos, a bit of musicality that's making them easier to learn, and enjoyable too.

After a couple of weeks (months) I plan to take this online. I accept that most people still playing this will be extremely honed and I'll be beaten bloody, but my purpose is to just get a feel for one on one street fighting before the new one comes out so that I won't be a total scrub on 6.

With any luck there'll be a few novices popping about who've had the same idea as me, and I can grab the odd shady win.

  7. I feel this whole generation has been oddly devoid of games, or at least games that I like to play.

Luckily for me I played so few games last generation outside of the switch I've had almost 2 years of catching up with loads of killer titles.

  8. I've moved onto Ryu, and I definitely feel that training followed by a run thru on arcade hard difficulty is improving the accuracy of my inputs. Following interweb advice I'm staying grounded unless a I get a clear read from the enemy and this is defo helping with the final boss, although I haven't beat him yet with Ryu.

I'm also close to pulling off ryu's classic FADC ultra in training. Getting a dragon punch at the end tho. Bugger

  9. Thanks for the input. I really am just using 4 to get a feel for the stick. When I move over to 5 I'll learn a shoto and go online for the pain of it.

Plus, I really need a wired connection for this latter endeavour as my gaming space is far away from my virgin hub. This will take a bit of an effort (drilling thru walks etc) and I at least want to be able to do some basic moves before going to all that trouble.

I'm really excited about 6, tho. It looks incredible. It's probably my most anticipated announced game. So, hopefully I'll stick with it.

  10. As generally advised for beginners on the interweb I'm sticking with shoto characters to begin with. Suits me, actually, because I love it when someone busts out Ken at a tourney.

Don't really understand the concept of 'charge' characters tho 🤔. Might leave them for now.

  11. A weird bump but, hey, these are strange times.

So, excited to hear that SF6 is heading to Xbox, I've dusted off my unused (sanwa modded) venom fightstick that I bought on a whim years ago and I've settled in to trying to actually learn how to play this game after being an avid spectator for over 10 years. I follow all the tournaments and know all the great players, but I just haven't had the opportunity to play myself. I thought it was going to happen with 5. I bought my stick and was ready to go, but that game was a joke on release. I could hardly get a match online, and I ended up getting a refund in disgust and moving on.

But now the opportunity to play has come again😄.

Obviously, as a beginner, I'm not interested in jumping online with all the killers still playing 5. My intention is to simply learn the basics. How to defend, throw a couple of combos, and perform basic moves competently, like being able to throw a crouch kick/fireball combo with Ryu without thinking.

Been playing arcade mode and training for a couple of weeks. As a milestone I've beaten the game on hard difficulty with Ken, which was quite an achievement at my level of (in)competence.

Why Street fighter 4 I hear you ask? Well, I already had it on my PS4 and I didn't really want spend any money on something I might just give up on if it turns out I have no aptitude for it.

For now, I'm quite happy with my progress and, more importantly, really enjoying the challenge. My goal is to beat the game on hard with 10 or so classic characters, hoping that this exercise will bring the basic moves of the game to muscle memory.

If I'm still interested after that I'll do the same with 5.

Any tips on learning will be greatly appreciated. I know I should be playing real people but, seriously, I'm nowhere near that level yet.

It's no different to Netflix removing stuff when you're half way through a season of something... it's a streaming service and to be expected, surely?

You'd have to come to something very late in the day for that to happen on Netflix. Plus, who plays videogames in the same timeframe as watching 10 episodes of something on Netflix.

  13. Game pass is a pain in the arse at times. I was half way thru zero when they took it off, very near the end of San Andreas when that went, and enjoying a FPS playthru of GTA 5 before that got fecked off.

I just get my games off the deals page now, or any cheap digital deals on the internet. Can't be arsed with discs. Game pass is only good for getting a cheap first playthru of new Microsoft exclusives if you ask me.

  14. So many great ones. But since no seems to be mentioning it, I'm going to plump for the Ratchet and clank series.

Have such fond memories of getting my kids thru the 'hard bits' when they were young. And when they outgrew the series I, like a big old eejit, carried on playing. I've played every main entry, many more than once, and when I gets my PS5 (probably when SF6 comes out) I'll be going straight in for the latest installment.

  15. I've finished my Odyssey. Wrapped it all up with a bit of a happy ending, although many characters in the story didn't make it, and certain questions were asked as to why I handled things the way I did (violently, mostly).

Luckily, I killed that many people in the game I honestly couldn't remember any of these more 'significant' slayings. It all just merged into a sea of blood and guts. Funny videogames, aren't they.

Still, with everything settled back home in Sparta, I still have have about 7 world stories to get thru (which are rather lengthy side quests). Should mean loads more bloodletting. But what's a girl to do.

  16. There's a boss in this with a devastating flatulence based status attack. He absolutely wrecks you with the sheer power of his arse.

And while this was possibly a bit of comic relief in the Dev studio, it's been the hardest part of the game. I died 4 times before I overcame this sphinctally aggressive adversary. And I'd hardly had a desynchronization in 90 hours before that.

Closed that legendary hunter questline anyway, and I'm mopping up a fairly long list of support quests before I carry on. What a great game.

  17. Just picked this up for buttons on Xbox deals. Looks like something I can play although it's a bit hard on the eyes after all the Assassin's creed games I've been playing lately. I do love an action RPG though.

  18. 85 hours into this and ready for my first post on the subject 😃. I'm about level 55 and so it's pretty hard to die at this point, and I have 2 cultist leaders to kill on the outer wheel.

This has definitely been my favourite of the three AC RPGs. I can hardly think of anything I don't like, and it's probably the best open world experience I've had up to know, with every tree, every ruin, every blade of grass convincing and perfectly placed.

I even like the ship combat in this, and because the game is rather easy (on normal) I'm spending most of my resources getting my ship to near invincibility. I also feel like I've still got loads to do, too, despite my heavy hours played. And I don't mind. It's that good.
