  1. XII is great cause it fixes the problem of rubbish AI with automated party members cause you build out little blocks of logic that are all under your control. It's really expressive and deep

But XII also sucks cause this same system means the moment to moment combat is quite passive

But it also rocks cause it has a job system thing where it forces you to choose roles for your characters which limit the skills available to them which forces you also to think clever with how you assign their gambit commands

But it is also annoyingly arcane with what these roles are and their associated advantages and disadvantages. Like a white mage is obvious but what the fuck is a "Shikari" other than a fucking horrible mid noughties band.

I love it and find it boring in equal measure.

  2. If you've not played an FF well VII is a good bet if you can deal with the garish visuals. The gouraud shading (sp?) is still charming in its own way tho personally

X is good. XII is hugely addictive with its gambit and job system stuff but it has the most uninvolving story of a game I can think of.

  3. A thing that frustrates me is if you dont bring a mage pawn along you're kind of fucked for healing, you're constantly spamming curatives

That said BBI is weighing my burden limit with curatives so maybe this is something that's more balanced by the DLC.

I dont know what to make of the DLC yet. It reminds me of a dungeon in Dark Souls II or something like that. It even has mimics ?

I'm waiting for an exciting new enemy type. I found this big skeleton guy who dealed loads of damage. I used sword parry on him.

For some reason every pawn I bring that isn't mine does something stupid like drown themselves. Not just in BBI but in general. It's why in always ending up with two people parties

  4. Ok, I need to get to rank 38 in order to be allowed to buy the hunting rifle in this game

The player tab mouse over for rank says it's determined by eating, sleeping and taking care of yourself.

    I'm rank 5.

Even when I try to give this mode a chance it's just full of this boring work that just isn't worth it at all

I can't even buy a bow and arrow.

  5. The first ten hours are shit. Also you're a quitter so what's the point in fighting ??

I heard DA was good. People shouldn't sleep on DLC I reckon. Sometimes it's better than the main game

Tho I got to admit my appetite for more isn't high right now

  6. I'm not really a fan of these films, but I liked Infinity War. It was bloated and excessive and had stuff that completely passes me by cause it concerned characters in a movie I didn't watch cause even the fans said it was bad.

But it worked for me, I dunno. I liked it a lot better than the other ones I saw. I actually saw it with a group of marvel nerds and I think I liked it better than they did.

But that trailer for the new film is pretty bad. I guess people don't need convincing to see the next Marvel. But that's what I think of all these trailers I think. The way they have that annoying "hammering" sound in the score in blockbuster trailers has become a big pet peeve of mine, more than the inception horns ever were.

  7. DMCV, but you know something has been pushing me away from that lately. There's something about the style of the visuals that look a bit... grotty? ?

    It's that REVII engine maybe

I'm looking forward to Sekiro as well. I actually don't know what comes out next year after March, it's pretty much just RE2, DMC and Sekiro I have on my calendar.

  8. I don't care about spoilers, can you tell me how far that wakestone shite is from the end and if you're free to roam around after you complete it?

I went to Black Butter Island. I haven't really done anything there yet. The grim reaper showed up and I ran away cause I've played Persona 3 and you can't trick me.

I agree with what you say. I haven't read your spoilers, but as uneven as it is DD does things I've been wanting games to do for a long time.

It's like a dungeons & dragons yarn set in a very basic Skyrim ripoff open world but with some light character action combat with enemy encounter design feeling inspired by SOTC and with a great sense of openness that you don't get with the combat in Skyrim or even Dark Souls.

It very very badly needs a sequel.

Are you going to do the DLC?

  9. Ok, turns out the HDR setting for GoW is very hidden in a place called screen calibration. I turned it on and I can see it now. The HDR brings out details that are obscured while it's off and light sources have a luminescence that they didn't have before. It's better contrast, details are separated out better. Particles sort of "burn" when you kill enemies.

That said I'm not finding it mind-blowing either. A feeling I think which is a combination of already playing this game once over and seeing all the graphics in 1080 where they are still very impressive and also cause this is a mid-range TV offering a basic HDR implementation.

But it is nice to know it is there and the effect works cause I had written my TV's HDR off entirely until I found the setting.

  10. I think it's recommended you do the basic vocations before the advanced ones anyway. Some of the basic skills carry over.

Or something, I'm not totally sure.

You should maybe train your pawn in a more tanky role to keep mobs off your back.

The bit of the game I'm at now seems sort of boring. I don't know what I want to do really. I'm not sure if I'm ready for that DLC area yet or not.

  11. I love the assassin. Every single weapon except bows has a parry. Shield has parry and hop above and behind the enemy, sword is parry and stab in belly (which is how I dealt with that old man who I can't name because spoilers also btw I beat the dragon) and knives have parry and themln jump on the head of the nearest dude and slit throat.

With magic what I hear is that it becomes very cool when you're a high level sorceror.

  12. Oh man look at how I dispatched this Saurian

Parried the backswing of an attack he did to a pawn, which made me automatically jump over him then I stingered him off the cliff

I dunno I thought it was pretty cool anyway ?

The combat in this game is so good. I might be near ready to take a break from melee however. I'll train my pawn as a fighter/warrior for a bit maybe and start donning the magic gear for a bit

  13. I don't like the cockatrice. Big dumb chickens that are a reskin of the Griffin but they burp black smoke. Boo.

I'm having another go at the dragons lair but I'm getting med-induced sleepiness again ??

When I finish my playtime will be ridiculous but 20 hours of it will be on a pause menu.

  14. Also if you listen to the pawn she says "slay the healer first". So I think I actually learned to kill the goat first from the pawn in one of my earlier tries

The pawns can be dumb but the whole thing where they share knowledge with you is very cool. Especially knowing that it might have learned that cause they fought that enemy in someone else's game and they already know that the goat is the one to hit first
