  1. Just started playing this as a sort of Smash accompaniment. I don't watch this show, bit I am definitely aware of the characters. I know Cartman is the head honcho, that Kenny often wonders off this mortal coil, and I certainly wasn't surprised when Jesus turned up. It's sort of a cultural thing, isn't it.

But I love it. I've just spent a couple of hours wondering around fighting, picking up a few side quests, 'finding' Jesus, dealing with a Mongolian horde (as you do), talking to Al Gore etc.

The battle system is enjoyable, and can be quite fast moving. And, yeah, it's funny, although I have to wear headphones 'cos my missus is a a prude.

Trouble is, I want to play it more than Smash. ?

XII is the only FF game I've started and didn't finish... I hated the Gambit system, I disliked the characters and the story was boring as fuck. Terrible game.

    Really?

You know, that and 9 (and tales) were the ones I was most looking forward to.

oof, that's a lot of ports/remasters. I'm not sure I see SMTV being out next year over here either, but I'm happy to be wrong. I hope there's more than that though, I'm not sure there's a lot there to get excited about

You're right, of course. But I've played hardly any of these games. It's a genre that I've only recently become fascinated with.

In fact the reason I was originally looking for this thread was for advice from more experienced gamers in light of my expected Jrpg spurge next year.

    There will be questions ?

  4. I wonder if @radiofloyd will stick with it. Those first impressions in his post are almost mine to a T.

I honestly thought a lot of that stuff was part of an extended tutorial, that the handholding would stop, and that easier options for looting, storage, etc would be offered.

I wouldn't be surprised if all fifteen of these were on my Switch by the end of the year. Except the one that won't be on anyone's Switch (or any other console for that matter).

    As it happens, no.

This rumour got me excited a couple of days ago. The last story, while not on many people's list of all time favourites, has a special place in my affections as it was the first JRPG I managed to finish.

So this surfaced a couple of days ago on the PlayerEssence YouTube channel and did the rounds. All bollocks.

But I would absolutely love it. In fact an HD Switch version of the original wouldn't be a bad idea either.

  7. Managed a couple of hours. True to form I have no idea what I'm supposed to be doing with these spirit things, but I'll plod on as it's giving me a grounding in how to play the game.

I played it on the telly until I got a bit tired, and had a quick match on the handheld just to see what it looked like. My god, it looks impossibility smooth on the Switch screen. A real eye popper.

I tend to enjoy RPG's a lot more when on handhelds, so when I get my Switch at Christmas this will be getting a lot of love.

Well that's it. For me it's a handheld genre. And the switch has made it accessable. They just seemed like too much hard work on console, and if your home time is limited you can get a bit frustrated by lack of progress. Since the switch came out I've put hundreds of hours into them and enjoyed every minute. Looks like I'll be playing this the same time as you.

Now aren't you glad there's a Jrpg thread?

    Bleedin' naysayers ?

This is the one I'm interested in. There's going to be a good few classics coming to switch next year, and this will hit early January. As I said, I'm a novice to this genre but have been enjoying it more and more over the last few years. I'm just about aware of this series. I mean the name rings a bell, but that's about it. Looks great though.
