mmmark
I’ve managed to pick this up for £25 (£30 minus £5 slave discount) which is good timing now that the season is over and the better man won. I’ve only played very little so far of the story mode and when you’re racing it’s as good as ever but I’m not convinced by the story yet or your influence over it. In the second race my team mate forced me off the track in a pre recorded story scene. I then made it back past them and everyone in the top ten to win my first race. The win wasn’t referenced tho and all the focus was on that one moment of been pushed off. It’s a small complaint really. The game itself is likely to be better than ever. It certainly looks and handles better than 2019 (I skipped 2020).
mmmark
I have this on Xbox now instead so I’m going to have to start the story campaign from scratch. Speaking of which I’ve resided to the fact it doesn’t matter what you do in that it’s just a linear pre written set of events you have zero control over other than do the bare minimum. For example a cut scene might show you have to pit late in a race and you’re told to make places back and finish in the top ten. So I go and easily climb up to first and win. Then the commentary talks about me being a rookie with a lot to learn and the team makes out like I let them down a bit. A few scenarios in I realise it’s not actually counting up any points and is forcefully making me out to be a rookie making lots of mistakes like… Spoiler coming to overtake my teammate I leave plenty of room and am easily going to sail past when it then switches to it being a cut scene of me right next to his rear wheel and taking us both out 😤 …I wasn’t expecting a deep complex story arc or anything but I did think there’d be some or any player influence and alterations from how you performed outside of “do this easy thing”. I guess that’s hitting the nail on the head though. They don’t expect you to breeze through the situations. So when I restart the story I’ll notch the difficulty up. I do like that the story goes from playing as.. Spoiler ..The rookie in one season with a kimi like teammate to the next season playing as that kimi like teammate secretly playing out his final season while up against the rookie you’ve just been playing as and having a hard time emotionally being older and past your prime. So I don’t hate the story or anything and will likely enjoy it more now going in knowing what to expect and I am looking forward to seeing how it pans out and if it’s possible towards the end to pull off Devon Butler‘s limbs slowly as his family watches.
