Charly and Rach got me From Hell, Arkham Asylum, Marvel Secret War and Marvel Secret Invasion for Christmas. Reading From Hell at the moment and really enjoying it, I must of been in the minority of people who enjoyed the film, althogh I currently remember very little but I knew before reading this that the film has very little do with the book with which it shares its name (other than the subject material obviously).
It's bloody heavy going though, not helped by the black and white artwork, which admittedly fits in with the tale and setting, which probably also make it harder work than a normal "comic book" would otherwise be, but thats understandable as this is more of a novel and theory rather than some fantasy story about men and women with special powers and spandex. It's also bloody massive, about the same length as an individual volume of Akira actually. Really happy with it as a gift, looking forward to reading the others too, especially Arkham Asylum.
Read that that was actually painted by Dave McKean, which makes you wonder just how much an individual original page or panel would probably fetch at auction.

I thought of that, but ran around the external wall, had the map overlayed on the screen and couldn't find anything.

Unless you accidentally sold it you should have the Enemy Skill materia in your inventory, if you have more than one they may not all have Matra Magic so you'd have to check. It is a good attack for a fair amount of Disc 1 though!

I'm in the ruins after you've reached the Overlords Library, I've got the 3 keys from the portals and gone through the "Final" portal, cleared out all the enemies in that area and come to a big square dead end, am I missing something?

Sounds like Matra Magic on the Enemy Skill materia to me. Which I believe is named after this

Also, look for the normal anti-videogames bullshit from the Beeb

"let them gloat, because 20years from now RATM will be dead, nobody will remember/care about christmas charts or RATM, whereas joe can still have a future if we, the fans, support him tilll the end"
From Joe's message boards. I'm looking forward to christmas day now, one of my aunties kids is the kind to come up with that sort of shite, and I'll be drunk
I wonder if that person has looked at the "careers" of other XFactor winners...

anyone try the gt5 timetrial? i was pretty disapointed with how it feels with the pad, just like prologue really, the rumble feedback seems poor, admitedly having sound on would have helped, forza seems a lot better in that respect.
This is where any other forums resident GT fanboy (can't believe MFGamers doesn't have one) states "get a wheel".
Which is where everyone who is a driving fan states, "Get a grip and try Forza, because it's sex".
Well duh

This is really sad but I ended up smiling over the stupidest thing whilst playing it the other day. I was facing the wrong way on the tracks, so I had to reverse all the way back to a junction just to turn around. I have no idea why that made me smile as its a rather odd thing to enjoy, but it just gave me this really odd heartwarming feeling inside.

They certainly seem to have paid attention to criticsm aimed at Phantom Hourglass.

Torchlight
in Games
Just had a brief play of the demo and reqlly quite like it. I'd recently tried to play Neverwinter Nights but that felt like it was taking itself far too seriously, this feels so much lighter in tone (whether thats down to the graphics or not I can't decide) but I now want the full game.
I've read that its an introduction to the Torchlight world, hence why its a single player game, and they hope to release a free-to-play MMO in a year or so.

I've spent more time painting cars than I have racing, just as I did on Forza 2...
Anyway, I was entering into a competition to win a Fanatec steering wheel, I was the runner-up so am getting a wheel stand, I'm not fussed I only entered for the fun of it, but these were my entries:
This one was for a competition on the same site but was only for a wheel stand, I actually entered because only one other person had entered, I've been told since I was actually in consideration to win that but as I'd already won the Fanatec stand they chose someone else
And I've spent the past two days making these
Thats the Skyline GT-R 71 I've been using in the Fujimi Kaido Time Trial (I will update the times for that I promise!)
All of them are on my Storefront, the Porsche, Mercedes, TVR, Ford, Alfa Romeo and Nissan designs are 10,000 credits, the Fiat and Renault are 5,000 credits

Yes, how could anyone forget the 1958 to 1961 classic Peter Gunn, an American private eye television series which aired on the NBC (produced by Revue Productions) and later ABC (produced by MGM Television) television networks.
Seriously, it's like we dont know we're born. Which of course we werent in 1958, nor even 1961. But it's good to know that while I was watching Cracker in the 90's you had your own hard hitting detective drama to keep you busy. Have you still got your Peter Gunn lunchbox? What about the pencil case? And the photo's from your trip around Revue Studios, where you got to meet the Peter Gunn himself, a star so famous and iconic for his role as Peter Gunn he isn't even mentioned in the wikipedia blurb you pasted.
ouch.
its pretty famous for being in the blues brothers...
Wasn't that the Duane Eddy version?

I'm gonna think of 10 soon, dunno why 10, its just a good number. Games that made me go "ooooo" were.
360
Forza 3, Brutel Legend, Borderlands, Left 4 Dead 2, Shadow Complex, 'Splosion Man, The Dishwasher: Dead Samurai, BF:'43.
PS3
Bionic Commando, Street Fighter IV, Flower, Wipeout HD: Fury, Outrun Online Arcade.
PS2
Persona 4.
PSP
Rock Band Unplugged (and LBP if it wins me over).
Wii
Madworld, Metroid Prime Trilogy, LostWinds: WotM, Bit Trip: Beat, NyxQuest.
DS
Mario & Luigi: BIS, Chrono Trigger.
I didn't think it was a very good year, I know I have missed a few heavy hitters (Uncharted 2, MW2, New Mario and Batman) but even if they turn up awesome I don't think its been as strong as the last two years, proper all time favourites were released then. I reckon next year will be awesome though, Mass Effect 2 and Bayonetta in the first month FTW.
I own that (unsuprisingly) but still haven't gotten round to even playing it yet!

I usually go with 3 games for this kind of thing, but for here I'm just gonna roll with it.
Forza Motorsport 3 Everything that was great about both Forza and Forza 2 in one package and more.
Dragon Age Origins The setting of this RPG isn't normally my bag so the fact its dug its claws into me speaks volumes
Brutal Legend I've said it before and I'll say it again, Brutal Legend goes to 11
New Super Mario Bros Wii I'm not one to go mad for Mario but I'm struggling to draw myself away from this, its everything I've been wanting from Nintendo ever since almost everyone abandoned 2D.
Holy Invasion of Privacy Badman! What Did I Ever Do To Deserve This? Completely different to anything I've played before, a little like a Tower Defense Game meets Dungeon Keeper but incredibly addictive, devious, amusing and difficult
LittleBigPlanet (PSP) Admittedly not played alot of it, but I adore everything about it (aside from the controls on the analogue nub)
Prinny! Can I Really Be The Hero? The gameplay style isn't normally my thing, but that was countered by the humour and artwork that Nippon Ichi expertly craft into pretty much all of their games (again see Badman! as an example of this) which enabled me to grow to enjoy the gameplay itself too.

Glad I got World 2 finished, those desert lands always cause me issues, some good ideas there though (the kind of sand geysers being one, not sure if they were on the DS as I didn't play the DS one all that much).

I bought this and am loving it, but may have to see if I can upload any levels I make onto the PC to share, purely because my PSP is running custom firmware but whilst the current cfw tricks the game into thinking I'm running the correct firmware it doesn't trick the online section of the game.

No coz they'll just ignore it. I'll admit I've complained a little about that but this is exactly what I've been wanting from Nintendo for a long long time (pre-Gamecube)

Got this today, finished the first world with no real issue then hit World 2 those fucking dessert worlds or any sandy level in a Mario game always get me! Whether its the Sand Bird in Mario Sunshine or World 2 in Mario Bros 3!
Anyway, theres so much here I'm loving, I've always enjoyed the 3D Mario's but not to the extent I used to the 2D ones, and for some reason the DS one left me rather cold I just didn't enjoy it and I could never put my finger on why. This however feels like an updated, polished blend of Mario World and Mario Bros. 3 and is just excellent.
The Super Guide features are never really in your face and I think their inclusion has allowed Nintendo to make this old-skool challenging which is no doubt a good thing as I feared they might dumb it down and make it easy for their new market but they appear to have got the balance just right. It's right on track to being in my end of year bitparade Staff Picks.

Haven't Naughty Dog confirmed they're working on a PS3 Jak game?

I'm on the second to last chapter, and yeah its taken 2 and a half solid days of reading to get this far! There's a suprising amount of detail in some of the panels, little bits of newspaper text and stuff that helps unravel it all.
Its fairly obvious stuff to anyone who knows the slightest thing about the Ripper murders and its not too much of a hair brained theory in all honesty. Some of the stuff thats in there though has taken me by suprise, the sheer graphic nature of what they've done, not just with the murders themselves but with the people connected to it all, however loosely, was a little shocking.
I think my favourite section so far was Gull taking his coachman on a tour of London and teaching him about all the religious symbology within the churches and chapels and how it wasn't really Christian symbology but Druidism and Pagan, with a big fat dollop of Freemasonry thrown in for good measure.
