Watchmen looks good / different. The Leftovers was excellent so I have hope. Preacher is going out guns blazing

    Diablo 3

Spent a couple of hours playing this with a mate. We added my Switch profile to his machine but it didn’t bring in my characters, so instead of local on one machine, we had him on the TV and me on my Switch. There was a slight lag if I looked at his screen so I had to only look on the handheld but it went pretty well. Both of us were surprised how well the Switch handled loads of mobs of enemies on screen, plus us and our friendly minions, as we were both necromancers. Finally got my necromancer to the end game levels. The other day I tried Barbarian and it wasn’t as much fun to play. But also did a good run with demon hunter and that’s more like a machine gun class and is also good fun.

    The Comic Book Thread

Tom King and Mitch Gerards do good at the Eisner awards this year. King won best short story for the Swamp Thing special they did a while go and best writer, Gerards wins best artist and together they win best limited series for Mister Miracle It’s not hard to see why. God this book is so fucking good. Kind of a funny one is Zdarsky won an award for best single issue/one shot for his final on Peter Parker, Spectacular Spider-Man. Which he wrote it and drew it all himself so probably why he gets such praise for it. And it is quite good. But Dan Scott for his final Amazing Spider-Man issue basically did the same thing and doesn’t get a mention anywhere. Not that I’m actively out to enjoy Slott being snubbed but I’ll enjoy it when it comes along. Also Jen Bartel won best cover artist for Blackbird I’ve seen this book about before and meant to pick it up just of the strength of the look alone. I should do that at some point. TV Shows

Now TV has HBO stuff. I told you this before actually 🤔 New His Dark Materials trailer I haven't read these books since I was 14. Looking at this I'm wondering if it will actually be good. From memory and watching this it seems like the first book involved a lot of stuff about kidnapping children and it didn't really kick off until The Subtle Knife.

Trailer for the new Watchmen series It’s hard to get excited for it because I can’t really tell what it’s about. But I’m vaguely interested, I guess? Problem with these HBO’s shows is I never know where I can watch them so might not end up seeing this anyway
  10. So this escaped my attention but they put out a spiritual sequel to Journey on IOS. I just played the first 20-30 minutes on my iPad. I don’t know how I feel about it. On the one hand it’s surprising just how like Journey it is. The sliding down hills, meditating/praying at statues, a jump meter that needs to be refilled, seeing other people in the world. Like it’s a sequel to Journey in the same way Dark Souls is a sequel to Demons Souls. It’s a different name, and some stuff is different, but at it’s core it’s all there. It looks really nice as well. I really loved Journey and played through it multiple times, but immediately rolling green hills and big, fluffy clouds is just more pleasant and eye catching than a desert. The only problem for me is the controls. Granted I don’t play iPad games ever, in fact I think this might be the first game I’ve ever played with thumbs on the screen trying to imitate control sticks. And even though it works quite well, it’s a bit too messy and requires a bit too much thinking about and takes me out of the experience. The game is free but with MTX. I didn’t see anything that asked me to pay, but right off the bat you can see all the places they will want you to pay. For emotes, for cosmentics, to refill your jump, etc. First 30 minutes I didn’t even have the option to pay for anything but I don’t know how that will play out. It looks amazing, I love this studio’s games, I love that you can fly in this game in controlled spaces (and nearly 30 years on they still take influence from Mario World with how the cape works). I just wish I was playing it on PS4 or something. It seems really cool but I don’t want to play it like this.
  11. Wow, I've never looked at that tab. Yeah they should be doing something about that. It makes the platform look dodgy as fuck.
  12. Different packaging: To make sure you can also check the model number (needs to end with a number in brackets, for example HAC-001 (01)). Should be on the right side of the box.
  13. You can make whatever you want against your own ToS though. To be specific, this was in the trending tab, not someone I followed, that would be gross. Not the first time it has been there either, usually there are these awful Fortnite videos as well which seem like a phishing scam since at the start of the videos you have the dude asking people to comment 10 times with their email addresses and shit. I've reported a few and they have been taken down in the past but the only way to avoid them is to block the player but they seem to start new accounts for every video so you just can't avoid it.
  14. I've engaged in a conversation with a catfisher on PS4 before. It was entirely automated and didn't respond like a human at all. No idea who'd fall for it.
  15. I always play my switch handheld so don’t feel the need currently for more power, although I do find non Nintendo games do struggle. Fifa being one, if they released a pro maybe through the dock as the current one does bugger all I would get one but whatever the next console is I would get it. From memory the current dock it’s just a connection dock for cables etc and does very little else. Im interested in the next original switch, doubles battery life, anyone know what to look for at retail for these?
  16. Isn't that Catfishing? Which, although morally dubious and potential fraud, isn't illegal.

    Nintendo Switch

Nintendo's greatest success rate has always been in the handheld market. Now they have a viable way to push their console systems in that direction, and sales of the Switch suggest people are receptive to it, I think they will stick with this tech now too.

    Nintendo Switch

Yeah, I'd be amazed if they went for a straight up "under the TV console" again anytime soon, especially as both Microsoft and Sony are going about getting their games playable on the move in different ways.
  19. conversely I've always thought the Switch is underpowered and I've been saying for a while that it's going to run in to a problem once the new consoles are established. What might save it is that we're probably 2 years away from those consoles being established, by then the switch will be 4-5 years old, a revision isn't unreasonable at that point. there's every possibility Nintendo will try the mobile phone upgrade route. The Pro comes out early next year, then 2 years later another meaningful step that makes the current Switch obsolete(ish), and repeat that for as long as is reasonable. I can't see them going back to a dedicated console next gen, but I can see the handheld Switch being a regular occurrence
  20. Who have you followed this time?🤣
  21. Nag

    Nintendo Switch

History would probably say no... But the Switch already basically comes with one (the standard dock) so buying an upgrade for those interested isn't exactly the same. @Bob... Yeah, I'm not aiming this so much at Nintendo's exclusives, they do a bang up job with playing to the consoles strengths and disguising it's weaknesses through art direction. I'm thinking more about third party.
  22. Bob

    Nintendo Switch

@Nag I've never thought the Switch was underpowered while playing it. BotW had some choppy bits and the draw distance could have been better. Sometimes when zoomed in on things they are a cubist hellscape, but I don't see that game being improved by being made for a console with equivalent power to the PS4/Xbox. I dont see that with any of Nintendo's exclusives which is all I'm ever likely to play on there. I didnt feel that way about the Wii or Wii U either. Those motion controls are a different story though. If they released a more powerful home only console I might be interested but only in the way I am interested in most new gaming toys. I only ever play the Switch docked because the joy cons are made for the hands of children and women folk so it would be nice to have a closed box that I don't have to worry about scratching or what have you. Also where the Switch is now I have to pull the console out completely to get to the cartridge slot which is whack.
  23. My dudes. Do you think if someone finds pictures of a teenage girl online and then uses them to trick people into following their PSN account by saying it is them, that that should be perhaps unacceptable? Sony do not. They do not one little bit. Related. Does anyone know if there is a way to remove the trending section from PS4?
  24. OCH

    Nintendo Switch

Do peripheral upgrades ever lead to success, long term? I'm thinking: 😜 Although I do recall the N64 Expansion Pak was a good one. But in my opinion, it is always better to phase out the current system and replace it with the next.

    Nintendo Switch

So switch owners... I was reading an article the other day (ign I think) on how now the Switch Lite has been announced Nintendo are still in need of the rumoured Switch Pro... Given that Sony and Microsoft are very likely to release new consoles next year that will further outperform the standard Switch. Also how this could be achieved, as in a brand new console or some kind of dock that could boost the power (only in docked mode, obviously) Now, this isn't designed to instigate any fallings out, I'm genuinely interested in people's opinions on this as I know there's at least a couple of people on the site who only used docked mode. So, do people care about the Switch and it's power, would people buy an upgraded console or a peripheral if it released?
  26. That bothered me a lot as well and i have never listened to a Linkin Park album in my life. Same with Chris Cornell, not someone I have ever listened to but his death hit me pretty hard. Reason for me is that when you have mental health issues you just get fed the idea over and over that if you just do this or that it will go away or be fixed or whatever and it's bullshit for so many people. So when I see people like that that have probably been driven in part to do what they have done in their careers to 'fix' their mental health problems and then they get to 40 or 50 and just think fuck it, it's not going to get any better. That hurts. I don't think it's necessarily that taboo to talk about it anymore but only if you are on the other end of it. Like you can only become an expert on depression if you're not depressed anymore. If you have it then there's probably something you haven't done. Tried exercise? Must be your diet. How about medication? Oh youre taking it? Stop, all it does is hide the emotions so you don't have to face them, you know my uncle took them for years and then he stopped and he's fine now so we treat him like a human being again. You're not on any? Take some, it's like you're not even trying, honestly. DMT? I'll send you this JRE clip about it.
  27. Linkin Park It's two years to the day since singer Chester Bennington took his life, and I am day drunk and listening to his voice. Musician deaths never really bothered me. I mean, they bummed me out, sure. But Chester's was different. I remember the news sinking in and I just broke down. I was literally sobbing in my girlfriends arms (how mental is that?) And I had no idea why. It took a few days of thinking but it hit me. All these musicians that have died before were from the generation before. I was brought up on them. But Chester was the first from MY generation. At least the first I cared about. I was introduced to Linkin Park because of my Dad. His friend was the city's premiere rock DJ so got all the promo CD's and had people telling him who the up and comers he should be pushing were/weren't, and Linkin Park were firmly in the PUSH category. I had CD's, stickers, posters, all of it (I was essentially street team, I just didn't know it), and it took my school mates about 6 months to catch up. Linkin Park were always 'my' band. They've always been special to me. I was suicidal throughout my teens for reasons I won't go into, and have battled depression for as long as I can remember, and Chester's lyrics gave me strength when I needed it, although every song he wrote was a cry for help. I'm 34 now and still love this band with every fibre of my being. Scary how powerful an effect music can have on you. Anyway, I'm listening to Linkin Park and having a cry, remembering all the times Chester's words stopped me killing myself. Depression is a killer, and for some reason it's still taboo to talk openly about it. May as well break the taboo here amongst friends. x
