This looked fantastic until Cloud popped up. I really like how they used the style in cutscenes, too. I can see myself picking this up (and never summoning Cloud).

Watching that trailer, it's not just Cloud. You've got Terra and Cecil and some weird FFXI thing, Squall is in there, Noctis

I still don't quite get the 2DHD thing. The 3D cinematic framing of cardboard characters with depth of field, it's like putting the limits of one type of visual style under a microscope rather than playing to its strengths. Or maybe that is the appeal?

The exploration stuff does look good though. It's about time with this and the latest VII Remake games that Square remember to bring this important aspect back to Final Fantasy, it's basically been gone since FFX

edit, apparently this is a single player re-imagining of a FF Gacha game, Brave Exevious, or something

That would be an interesting experiment if they did it with their MMOs, though there's too much story in XIV to condense into a SP game now

This has more views on the Square Enix channel than Revelation.

KHIV barely crawling ahead of FFX, poor Sora.

Also, this game is an adaptation of the first 'season' of Brave Exvius, there are four seasons. So presumably if it does well then chapters 2, 3 and 4 will be imminent

omg it looks so good. This and Castlevania are 2 of my most anticipated games coming out this year. Not sure what to get it on. Either PS5 or Switch 1. Probably PS5 as even though I like played HD 2D games in portable mode I don’t want to deal with Switch 1 loading times. This is shaping up to look extremely cinematic as well, fit for TV, opposed to something like Dragon Quest remakes or Octopath which are more story book/smaller experiences

Also Switch 2 is a no-go due to bad portable screen and GKC

lol I’m half-joking but also I do feel like games have homes and I would never play FF on PC same way I’d never play FF on Xbox

(Actually I think I did play FF5 pixel remaster on PC for 20 minutes but didn’t like it)

It's too late to get into XIV at this point, but that's a PC-ass PC game I would say. Certainly the platform that it's best suited to

On topic, I need to see more of this. The blurry diorama look and billboard sprites is a thing that I just can't really get around to thinking it looks good. It's like, I dunno, if someone made a 3D black and white film or something. But the turn based combat seems interesting. My prediction is that Square are testing the waters for a turn based FFXVII, as they've probably over-served people on action combat at this point and need to try something new (old)

There's a demo out for this, you can continue wth your save file in the full version, as is often the case with SE's demos.

I enjoyed it quite a bit. It is a classic turn-based JRPG so it's probably not a surprise, but the trailers didn't really sell it to me up until now. That said I had to change to Japanese voice acting because English script and voice acting is nightmarish. Reading the text isn't as bad, though if you understand Japanese I suppose you're just screwed. It's a bit of a shame because FF used to be better than this, but this is just run of the mill nonsense à la Tales of Arise.

I mentioned this before but I do like that it has proper cutscenes though, with camera shifts and such. I think it's the first 2D-HD game that does this. Even if the end result is less FFXII and more Dragon Ball. The summons are also FMVs, which is a nice callback.

Will pick this up maybe early next year or something. Switch 1 version is thankfully quite good, so SE can shove the SW2 Key Card where Bahamuth's Megaflare can't reach.

I've got the demo. I'll probably just play an hour and a half just to get a look at it. There's no way I'd play 4 or so hours then try to pick it up from that save in over a month's time.

If I like it though, I might use the demo as a kind of 3 day early access when the time comes😀

Yeah, I usually just play them for 20min to get a very basic idea and start the full game from scratch (should I decide to pick it up).

But I do like the concept of these longer 'early access' demos, it's refreshingly consumer friendly.

I've played some of this to and from the Steam Deck and Machine and having a good time with it. I'll ikely grab the full game when it releases.
