I thought someone else would've done this by now...

I'll play this... I'm not massively hyped or anything but I will finish the damn trilogy.

I like Tifa's new threads though.

This makes me want to play Rebirth to catch up but the first game made me so miserable lol

My opinion went up after 3 and a bit play throughs and 60+ something hours from “this is making me mentally ill” to “it would be good if it wasn’t so bad” but hearing Rebirth is longer and more complicated…I dunno if I have it in me

My most liked thing about this project is still the meta commentary on remaking a classic. Even in the trailer there’s a line like “we wouldn’t have made it this far if not for you” which is clearly speaking to the fans, and is heart warming and wholesome. But I’m still apprehensive about playing more

Yeah, you really have to be into what they're doing with the combat in these to begin to like Rebirth

I've said it before but the way to approach these isn't like they're action games, but RTWP style combat systems like Baldur's Gate, but with some light combo action. You should use the 'tactical menu' a lot and play slowly cause there's too many variables to just react to stuff like it's dmc. Like, there's lots of tooltips and turn-based system stuff going on, just wrapped up in an action game abstraction, and I think people come at it like Kingdom Hearts instead

I loved Rebirth, but I'm mostly eager for them to end this story now. The pacing across these games suck so much, particularly with how little they've disrupted the original story. But this still looks like an amazing , maximalist Final Fantasy. Gives me X-2 vibes with the airship and dress sphere stuff

Using the 'tactical menu' feels awful though... it might actually be the best way to play but it saps any form of flow and enjoyment out of the combat.

I'm sure I'll carry on my messy brute force approach... probably on easy if the game decides to be a dick about things.😂

I think that's a fair criticism, and one thing I didn't like in Rebirth was them increasing the pace of combat and putting in parrying mechanics, cause it makes the hybrid approach feel a lot more imbalanced

To me though, the tactical menu makes it feel like The Matrix with the slowdown, lol

I like the tactical menu, for me it’s always been the trial and error boss fights/encounters. Not only are the strategies badly communicated but it leaves me playing them over and over again and taking me out of the story/momentum. When you know the strategy they’re largely easy but spending so much time trying to work out the exact order everyone has to do everything in, inspecting the boss with a magnifying glass, and then shit design stuff like cutscenes triggering and resetting your plan…

I’m not getting in to it.

One question I have is in the new trailer they say Sephiroth summoned meteor long ago, so is there a way to explain what they’re doing there without spoiling Rebirth? Because that’s not in classic `FF7, right? And the mountain of Sephiroth clones still makes me think this is a multiverse thing

Man I couldn’t disagree more about the combat. In Remake it was damn near perfect. I fucking loved it. Rebirth overcomplicated it a bit but the combat was still excellent.

I’ll be getting this day 1. Rebirth was a massive disappointment for me. But I still feel I need to play this and finish the new story.

The narration in the trailer is a callback to the narration in the 2015 trailer.

Right now though we don't know why they're framing the story this way. My guess is it's 100s of years after the events of all the FFVII games have taken place, and we'll find out at the end or something

Also, this is a way cooler reveal than Revelation's. I respect getting to see loads of gameplay, but I really don't need to know much about the game right now other than its name and when it releases. They did a lot of over-showing of Rebirth as well, so I'm probably going to maybe only watch half the stuff they show

Tbf after these trailers I probably won't watch anything at all... I'm badass like that.😎

Well, I'm going to play and complete the game with my eyes closed, so there

There's a thread here summarising more details

What's interesting is it sounds like it has a much more open structure, you can go wherever you want with the Highwind. I'm guessing there's some structure and they keep it on a linear path at the beginning, but I get the sense reading this and watching the trailer that the 'Weapons' (big Kaiju things) are trying to mimic the Divine Beasts in BOTW.

I doubt that FFVII is capable of having a world map that feels as organic in its exploration as the new Zeldas have done, the traversal in these games feels rigid and gimmicky. But it's a cool way to structure the last game and differentiate it from the other two.

They also say that there's decisions you can make that unlock different story content. Won't get my hopes up too high about that one, but it would be cool if it delivered.

Tifa and Scarlet will have a slap fight.

Apart from in YouTube vids I've never actually seen that summon in the original game... I never got the materia.

Hopefully it's not dragged out like you have to fight 13 guys individually, let the player fight all those motherfuckers at the same time.

FFXIV had a raid against KOTR, this is the last bit of it but the whole fight is a drawn out version of the FFVII summon.

There's a harder version called Thordan's Reign

I'm getting a Dark Souls gank squad vibe from that...
