Maf Posted June 8, 2025 Posted June 8, 2025 Despite looking like an NRS game this is an internal development team at Skybound made from the core dev team that made KI 2013. So that’s cool. But tbh, I don’t like the look of it, and don’t like Invincible, anyway. So will give this one a miss
DANGERMAN Posted June 8, 2025 Posted June 8, 2025 I like Invincible but this looked a bit too much like Mortal Kombat gameplay wise. Hopefully it's good tho
Maryokutai Posted July 24, 2025 Posted July 24, 2025 They've released a few new character trailers recently on their channel (https://www.youtube.com/@InvincibleVS/videos) and I'm starting to like this. It's very reminiscent of that Power Rangers game from a few years ago which was decent, but I was way too late for that party. When I first saw the announcement trailer for this I thought it looked a bit cheap and it probably is (in the sense of comparing its budget to something like the new arc Marvel fighter) but I think they're doing a decent job of using strong keyframes and hit effects to work around those limitations when animating their characters, for example. The only thing I actively dislike is the blood and gore, but from what I can tell that's kind of part of the whole Invincible schtick so there's probably no reason to expect a toggle in the final release. But I could see myself picking this up – it's a bit of an underdog next to Tokon and 2XKO but there's something about it that I find more appealing than these other two.
Maryokutai Posted October 28, 2025 Posted October 28, 2025 Monster Girl is kind of funny, even though in moment-to-moment gameplay it just a bootleg Hulk variant. Also, in reference to my last post, they have since confirmed you can turn off most of the gore and blood. The reason they gave is to make it safe for streaming but I think it's super distracting in its own right, so that's good to have as an option. 1
Maf Posted March 9 Author Posted March 9 Justin Wong is playing against the devs and he’s beating them 😭 how is he so good
Maryokutai Posted March 10 Posted March 10 I suppose I never posted this but I really didn't like this when I played the closed beta. I don't remember whether there was an NDA or not, so I'm not going into specifics, but one thing I found extremely off-putting (that is visible in trailers, so no secret) is just the underlying negativity of it. Everyone curses, there's blood and gore everywhere (even with the toggle active), people despise each other, and most of the dialogue is about killing or destroying the opponent. You'd think this wouldn't matter in a fighting game where gameplay is key and everything else decorum, but I found it really off-putting. As if the script was a twitter timeline. It's probably on-brand for Invincible – which I'm now sure I'll never read or watch – but really not my cup of tea. To say something something positive, I liked the latest character they revealed. Ignoring the stuff I mentioned above, it's a cool idea and her Super actually manages to find the balance between funny and gory, which none of the others really do.
Maf Posted March 10 Author Posted March 10 Watching the stream last night this game looked a bit better to me in terms of gameplay. Before it looked very robotic and clunky like Mortal Kombat. Now it looks faster and more fluid, so that’s nice. Although the game is built by KI devs and literally when you do the combo breaker mechanic, the game shouts “Combo Breaker!” And the music track playing feels like it fell directly out of KI Gold. So I thought that kind of says a lot about where the devs are at creatively. They really want to make KI, but in lieu of that, they can make KI with an Invincible skin on (I’m sure they really like Invincible, but this how it comes across) But as per Mary above that’s just why these “mature” superhero things don’t do anything for me. I like superhero stuff because at its core it’s good natured. Which a lot of this stuff like Invincible, The Boys, etc focus so much more on how much of a bastard the world is opposed to how good it can be. Which is boring. Anyway. Still not going to get this, but it does look a bit better and more like something I would play
Maryokutai Posted March 10 Posted March 10 Yeah, I wouldn't even call it mature. A mature take on superhero stuff is something like Watchmen. This is just loud and bloody.
one-armed dwarf Posted March 10 Posted March 10 It's just an inevitability I think that with the oversaturation of superhero-based media you'll also get too much of the reactionary superhero stuff, both running out of things to say really quickly and just getting repetitive. EEAAO reference in the trailer though, if you want to watch something that has fun with multiverses
Nag Posted March 10 Posted March 10 The Prime series is excellent... I've got no interest in this though, my fighter days are well and truly over. 2

Yeah going to second this. I've not seen enough of the game to say what the tone is like there, but the series is probably the best thing on Prime 1
one-armed dwarf Posted April 13 Posted April 13 This game doesn't look brilliant though Invincible reversals are safe on block, lol
DANGERMAN Posted April 14 Posted April 14 I played the tutorial but didn't have time for more than that. It seemed to play ok to me but it's lots of auto combos. Some of the supers didn't look especially super either, but Invincible isn't doing a lot of flashy stuff I suppose
Maryokutai Posted April 14 Posted April 14 I think Diaphone is my personal maf-Linneman. He swallows half of the syllables of every word he tries to pronounce which makes it hard to listen to IMO. And Punk is just being his usual black and white kind of person without an ounce of nuance in his takes. As for the game, they seem to have a rather old-school approach to make everyone busted and hope that the game balances itself out as a result. MvC technically did the same thing, if a character is good in one specific aspect then that part of their kit will dominate most interactions (think Morrigan in MvC3 or Cable in MvC2). Guess we'll have to see where it goes, I'll watch it from the sidelines. As mentioned in my last post I won't picking it up anyway because I find the characters and setting too off-putting. The auto combos have extremely high priority though, that's true @DANGERMAN. During my short time with the beta I had to turn them off because they kept messing up manual timings.
