one-armed dwarf Posted May 11 Posted May 11 Now that you understand the motivations driving his character, you have enough context to go back to Eternal and correct your wrong opinion on that game 🧐
Maf Posted May 11 Author Posted May 11 I might try Dark Ages again and play it the way the guy in the video plays it which is just super shotgun, plasma rifle and rocket launcher while punching things over and over. It looks fun. But if it doesn’t click next time I officially give up
one-armed dwarf Posted May 11 Posted May 11 Speaking about punching things over and over, a good vid on that right here: There's lots of hidden mobility in this game when you look at it, Dark Ages isn't "slow" (though the slowdown when doing parries and melee is annoying to look at)
one-armed dwarf Posted July 8 Posted July 8 This looks great, the spear looks like a much cooler tool than the shield Apparently the parry timing is tighter with the spear, which is the tradeoff I suppose for the new offensive options. They brought back the 'air control' perk from Eternal, where you could use the meathook to orbit around enemies. I'm expecting that you could leverage the hook/spear to generate momentum and go faster, but you don't really see that here Crazy that these guys are being gutted, what a fucking travesty
one-armed dwarf Posted July 12 Posted July 12 I've been watching some of the high level gameplay of the DLC, it's crazy how much better the game looks with the spear. Probably not on the same level as Eternal, but very fucking close looking. The combos and speed, as well as the verticality are all there now. It's clearly one for the sickos, like the first Eternal DLC was. This is why I can't get on the anti-DLC train, there's a lot of scope to iterate on the core fundamentals in really interesting ways that you can't with a full sequel. Especially now, with modern budgets
Maf Posted July 30 Author Posted July 30 Looks like the DLC is £9 on Xbox and PC https://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/doom-the-dark-ages-revelations-dlc-xbox-series-xs-pc-4946691
one-armed dwarf Posted July 30 Posted July 30 Seems people didn't turn up for it, though tying its release in with a shit-load of job cuts probably wasn't a great hype builder Even if I wasn't avoiding MS, I think my recent burst of playing a too hard modded version of Eternal has burnt me out for at least 6 months on Doom
mfnick Posted July 30 Posted July 30 Really wasn’t keen on Dark Ages. Sounds like this made it a bit more like Eternal but not enough for me to try it. Plus all the news around this stuff just really put a downer on it. Really don’t want to give MS/Xbox money where I can help it these days.
one-armed dwarf Posted July 30 Posted July 30 It's hard to see how they could make it more like Eternal within the Dark Ages framework tbh, aside from removing parrying and putting in rapid quick swapping but that's one aspect of Eternal that looks goofy imo, when you see people swapping guns so fast that the guns don't even show up but still shoot. It's the one Dark Ages change I thought was a good one. Have guns and gun combos, but don't just make it an exercise in twitch reactions to toggle through them all as fast as possible If MS ever divest from gaming altogether and ID go independent, I'll buy Dark Ages and Revelations then. The DLC looks so good and I'm bummed to miss out on it, but MS feel are a terrible company to support.
mfnick Posted July 30 Posted July 30 From what I hear the Spear helps make the gameplay a bit faster and you’re able to do the Super Shotgun style gliding around. Like I say, it’s not enough for me but I’d probably enjoy it more than the main game.
