Maf Posted April 2 Posted April 2 Well, it’s not like I’m ever cracking open the 3DS again so sure, little throw away JRPG remake to fill out the launch line up
one-armed dwarf Posted April 2 Posted April 2 'Speed up battles' just seems like some sort of admission of failure to me, I dunno. Like I enjoy FFXII a lot but I felt like I was doing something wrong in using the speedup. Feel like it fucks the pacing as well
Maf Posted April 2 Author Posted April 2 All these games do that now, though. Even FF7 ports have a 3 x speed toggle I played DQ3 Remake on Ultra Fast mode the entire time. You need it for these games. The battle animations and stuff is too repetitive
one-armed dwarf Posted April 2 Posted April 2 Yeah but it's doing that in general feels a bit like we've collectively decided a core gameplay mechanic is terrible so we had to fix it by skipping it essentially. I've never played Bravely Default and it puts me off a bit. I know it's a bit more nuanced, the FFXII example I gave. Replaying old games. Just doesn't do a good job of selling me on it though (I also don't even really feel like FFVII needs a speedup. You can zoom through that game, unlike XII)
Maf Posted April 2 Author Posted April 2 It’s not really skipping it, It’s just speeding it up. The game is the same, just faster, which after you’ve played some of these fights a few 100 times, is nice My favourite one is Earthbound where if you’re higher level than the enemy instead of entering a random encounter you enter a cartoon style dust up cloud and automatically win the fight
Maryokutai Posted April 3 Posted April 3 It's weird they show the battles like that in the trailer, but the way the battle system works is that you often stack four commands per character to dispatch mobs more efficiently and it would take forever to go through these motions otherwise. Not to dismiss the argument but in this case specifically I think it's more of a symptom of a rather inelegant battle system. For example Octopath took the same idea but implemented it in a better way (added visual flourishes for strengthened attacks), which makes you less inclined to just fast-forward. As for this game, it's a bit of an odd one to bring back. It was perfectly fine on 3DS for its time (super pretty backgrounds in 3D, too), but in the aftermath of Octopath and DQ remakes and FF pixel series and whatnot, I think the pseudo-nostalgia factor isn't as appealing as it once was. I also distinctly remember the endgame being extremely monotonous and repetitive.
radiofloyd Posted April 3 Posted April 3 I own both this and End Layer on 3DS and paid quite a bit for them too, so will definitely be playing them there to get my money’s worth.
Maryokutai Posted April 3 Posted April 3 According to the US packshot the Switch 2 release for this isn't complete on card, so just a bunch of plastic waste basically. Good start into the generation if SE can't even be bothered to fork out for a mid-size cartridge, because I doubt this is a massive game (in terms of its file size).
Maf Posted April 8 Author Posted April 8 A Switch 2 game under £40 they said it couldn’t be done https://www.shopto.net/en/sw2br00-bravely-default-flying-fairy-hd-remaster-s-p1183429/?
DANGERMAN Posted April 9 Posted April 9 It's still £5 more expensive than it was at launch on the 3DS tbf
