one-armed dwarf
Is it worth a third party publisher having its own topic, dunno but Ubisoft are in the news constantly and it's going to keep happening I guess So Assassin's Creed is being delayed again, but I put this here cause they are also still looking for a buyer and things aren't going well for them there or are still ongoing. I think the seemingly big financial failures of Avatar and Outlaws has really being a part of a negative chain reaction for them. https://bsky.app/profile/did:plc:2mkgbhbhqvappkkorf2bzyrp/post/3lfd5gjb7mk2x?ref_src=embed Quote Jason Schrier: NEWS: Assassin's Creed Shadows is delayed again, now to March 20, Ubisoft says, as the company pursues "various transformational strategic and capitalistic options to extract the best value for stakeholders" (looks for a potential sale). Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot (in a press statement): "We are convinced that there are several potential paths to generate value from Ubisoft’s assets and franchises." Nag
So who do we think are most likely to make an offer on Ubi?... would Microsoft even be allowed to? (not that I want them to)
one-armed dwarf
They have something like 20000 people employed and I guess their assets/IPs/etc don't really have a lot of value. It sort of sounds like trying to buy the Titanic after the captain lost his binoculars. edit according to the article I edited in the post above it looks like Tencent where in talks but they've ceased over disagreements with the Guillemots
mfnick
Embracer or Tencent? I think MS need to keep a low profile with regards to these kind of acquisitions for a bit so definitely not them. But like Dwarf says, they’re in trouble, their IP has lost loads of value, so why would anyone buy them unless it was for a really low price? Maybe see after Asscreed Shadow. If that does well I they may have more interest again.
Maf
I will buy them.

Maryokutai
The last thing big companies want to spend money on these days is employees and that makes UbiSoft incredibly unattractive. And on the IP side I don't think it's a stretch to say that AC is the only one that might be worth something still. Maybe Far Cry, too? Haven't really followed that series too much, so I don't know if the last ones were successful. I don't really know what else to say. UbiSoft obviously made mistakes, between betting too heavily on licensed IPs, throwing money out of the window for Skull & Bonus and on a significantly smaller, but for me rather annoying scale the always-online DRM bullshit they've been doing for a while now. But someone else acquiring them wouldn't necessarily result in a better outcome. The in-development PoP and Splinter Cell remakes? Would probably get cancelled the day the deal is signed. Consistent, but not massive releases like Anno? Nice knowing you. I really hope they somehow can turn it around, with different leadership, smarter choices in terms of production costs, not cannibalising themselves with a truckload of live service-ish titles. But this looks increasingly like a THQ situation where the ship will simply go under and then the vultures will fight over scraps.
DANGERMAN
I don't think Ubisoft have done anything to deserve sympathy. They've been fucking over their customers since at least From Dust back on the PS3/360. They've been a terrible company for longer than they were ever a good one. A lot of people will lose their jobs, that's obviously a shame, but I won't shed a tear for Ubisoft whichever way this goes
