I think this looks rather basic and even boring. It's 2025 and seconds into the trailer we see the protagonist slowly following an NPC, squeezing through a gap and do the most basic stealth takedowns this side of Naughty Dog. I've only ever played the first Mafia for a few hours and I realise these are more about the immersive storytelling and the setting, but this was a bit underwhelming. Maybe I'm too negative here and just not in the mood for it, dunno. People in the comments seem to like it but that stuff is usually very black and white anyway with no nuance.

Think I've only ever attempted to play one game in this series... that was enough to turn me off for ever.

Not sure what i expected about a game about the origins of the mafia but it's a bit too Richard Harrow* for my liking, with all the cool guy action stuff

I saw something saying this was going to be quite a trim game, so maybe it has all been done on a budget. Fwiw I liked Mafia 2 when I played that, but didn't finish it. I always wanted to play Mafia 3, but kind of missed the boat. This one is relatively cheap, so maybe it's one to pick up if it's quiet when it comes out

That’s an odd trailer. Doesn’t look bad but it doesn’t look very mafia like building a name and reputation for yourself. Must be a lot more to it than shown I reckon.

It's a bad trailer, the tone is baffling it looks like Indiana Jones. I've never played these games but I sorta figured they were like classic gangster films in video game form, not whatever that is

and while watching this before posting they specifically say they want it to feel like a mob film, ok so my expectation wasn't out of nowhere then

@one-armed dwarfthe first 2 were like old mob films, the 3rd changed it up, different setting, different era. This one looks more like the originals but set in Italy, at least for some of it, rather than America

The extended video is basically the same? The official trailer is spliced together more aggressively but the gameplay footage looks the same to me

 

It looks like Gears of War cover shooting and Assassin’s Creed stealth. Those cars look horrible to drive as well. I dunno

So apparently it isn’t open world which would explain why it doesn’t look like the other mafia games. Bit disappointed ngl. 
 

That being said it’s a shorter narrative experience that’s only £39.99 atm with a low (for 2025) $50 rrp
