radiofloyd Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 A co-op focused Fromsoft game seems like a no-brainer.
Maf Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 But you’re not playing the game right if you summon weak-ass players
one-armed dwarf Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 Sorta Metal Gear Survive vibes with this, feels like a random collection of 'fuck it' ideas. Like fighting that Dark Souls 3 boss randomly, Gwyn on the dragon or whatever it is Looks cool tho and more likely I'd play this than any other Souls game cause it looks like you can style on fools in this, rather than doing tedious boss fight homework. Hopefully there's a beta
HandsomeDead Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 Oh no, there's a chance this co-op remix could pull attention away from a full fledged Monster Hunter. It does look like that's what it's going for.
Maf Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 https://www.eurogamer.net/elden-ring-co-op-spin-off-nightreign-network-test-announced-and-you-can-register-for-it-soon Network test in Feb 25 but you have to sign up for it in Jan 25. I'm not going to jump through these hoops for a demo for a game I will definitely buy
one-armed dwarf Posted December 19, 2024 Posted December 19, 2024 This game is scaled for one or three players, but not two https://www.pcgamer.com/games/rpg/the-game-director-of-elden-ring-nightreign-has-delivered-an-ultimatum-to-gaming-couples-everywhere-find-a-third-wheel-or-play-by-yourself/ Weird, but I also found with Elden Ring that the game's boss fights did not have interesting interactions when more than one person was fighting them, so it sounds like they're doing a highly specific thing here with their encounter design where bosses actually react to three people. From this quote, it sounds like the scale of the fights might be massive and that this is why it's either big group or loner. Maybe Quote However, Ishizaki goes on to explain the thought process behind having three players: "This was largely a game balancing decision, rather than a game design decision … [there] was like a sweet spot with three players in order for it not to feel too overwhelming or too busy. It allowed each player to potentially go off on their own and cover a bit of the map." I think this game sounds really interesting in an offbeat kinda way, feels like a strange PS2 experiment.
OCH Posted December 20, 2024 Posted December 20, 2024 I guess that's why the wolf boss in the trailer split into three? It says solo play though, which is all I ever want from a Souls game. Definitely intrigued by the Birdman. It gives me Shining Force vibes.
radiofloyd Posted February 13 Posted February 13 https://www.eurogamer.net/elden-ring-nightreign-release-date-announced-by-fromsoftware Out May 30th.
Maf Posted February 13 Posted February 13 Kinda feels like Elden Ring’s answer to Majora’s Mask. Let’s take all the same assets, but make a really weird and fucked up thing out of it
one-armed dwarf Posted February 15 Posted February 15 Was reading some impressions of this and it sounds like an incredibly repetitive multiplayer roguelike without procedural RNG elements. Here's a video I saw of it, man I am so over this type of combat. Like I feel burnt out just looking at it
Maf Posted February 15 Posted February 15 I give them props for doing something which is clearly experimental. Even the reusing of the map and, well, everything, this is still a pretty risky swing so I appreciate that But I don’t want to play that at all. I’m just not sure what the point of it is
Nag Posted February 15 Posted February 15 Yeah I enjoyed Elden Ring a hell of lot more than I would've thought... bur I've zero interest in this at all.
one-armed dwarf Posted February 15 Posted February 15 It could be a fun discord game, with a heavy discount. Metal Gear Survive vibes remain with this tho

Maf Posted May 18 Posted May 18 Xbox code on CDkeys £25 https://www.cdkeys.com/elden-ring-nightreign-xbox-one-xbox-series-x-s-ww The thing I’m getting from the price of this game is they’re treating this as a true experiment. I think this is them really testing the waters of the gameplay concepts. That’s why they’ve reused so much from the main game and the price is relatively cheap. Make it for ‘cheap’, sell it for ‘cheap’, see if people like it I feel bad because so much of the conversation lately has been about escalating prices and risk averse games. Then you have Fromsoft trying a genuinely unique mash-up of souls-like, battle royale and co-op and I don’t even want to try it, really EDIT: It read like I think the CDkey price is RRP, but I think even from a shop it’s £35
Maf Posted May 30 Posted May 30 Been watching Distortion play this and it looks really boring. Somehow him and he’s 2 friends have figured it out already. They’re like let’s go to the volcano, let’s kill this boss, this is how to solve this puzzle, there’s a thing up here but the ledge is tricky. I’ve seen people complain that single player is much too hard. Must be because 3 player looks really easy. Maybe the stream I watched they’re just good, but it doesn’t look like it. It looks like one guy aggro’s while another spams gravity magic and an ice shard spell and kill everything. I don’t know. Just one stream I watched but looks really boring, simple and easy. At least in 3 player.
