Nag
Well I'm not sure what those holy shit moments were supposed to be... admittedly I should probably watch some trailers but going on the list of games that appeared over night (well done @mmmark) I'm not seeing them. Closest for me I guess is probably the Onimusha revival.
one-armed dwarf
New Ueda is a holy shit I think, and an Okami sequel with the revival of Clover (or at least, revival of the name) is a holy shit. Maybe that means God Hand 2 someday. I think Onimusha was a big surprise but people figured that out when they saw Capcom making discounts on Monster Hunter and Onimusha and bunch of other currently relevant titles. Witcher 4 and new ND we already knew about on some level
Maryokutai
A bit late to the party but I do think Shreier's comments were warranted, as Okami, Ueda's game and Onimusha certainly qualify as big 'holy shit' moments. He also wasn't far off with the Star Wars Eclipse comparison, because Okami looked like something that was greenlit maybe a month ago and will arrive at the end of this decade if we're lucky (though unlike Eclipse I'm fairly confident it will arrive). As for the show itself, I think objectively speaking this is probably as good as the VGAs can reasonably be (ie. something almost entirely financed through ads). If you would shave off the clips that are just pure advertisements you would probably end up with a really nice and tight 2-hour presentation. It's unfortunate that extra hour has to be in there – going to a Black Desert update right after the Okami announcement was beyond brutal – but selfishly speaking as a viewer of the archived video I really enjoyed going through it this year, maybe for the first time ever. And while I do criticise him quite a bit, I think kudos are in order for Keighly this time around. Not only did he show an honest amount of self-awareness and thick skin throughout (thinking about the roasting muppets here), he doesn't censor what other presenters say even if he himself prefers to stay vague. In that context I was extremely impressed by the speech of Larian's CEO – that guy fired shots in all the right directions and while it's easy to look at it as him coming from a certain position of privilege after BG3's breakout success, it was still an extremely ballsy move to come out with such a strong message. As was, on a slightly smaller scale, a prominent Sony employee getting on stage and praising one of their biggest competitors in what seemed like an unscripted bit. I think as far as spokespeople for the industry go, these two guys were a perfect fit to close off the show. Anyway, my two cents. Continue like this VGAs, that was solid.
