DANGERMAN
I've been working away at this, and still enjoying it. I've reached the labyrinth box and I think I might give it a break for an couple of nights. Not for any reason other than its been all I've played for a bit. I know I'm not a million miles from the end, and I've probably explored too much, up until the last boss fight I have over 100 handgun bullets, 30 health drinks, and 11 syringes I think part of why I need a break is that, from the second you leave the hospital until the end of the next main area, it's pitch black, and it's like that for hours. It's fine to build tension, there's a moment in the prison that's great because the lights go out. But when you're just running along a road and can't see either side of it, that seems needless, tense I suppose, but I'm looking for windows to break so the light being eaten the way it is is just kind of irritating. I don't want to leave it too long though, I'll forget what I'm doing or decide I don't want the stress
Nag
I know by the time I was half way through the prison I was almost begging for the lights to come on... you've got the one two punch of enemies with a ton more mobility and pretty much complete darkness... it does go a bit too far in my opinion. I will say @DANGERMAN (and I wouldn't call this a spoiler) things get a little easier in terms of lighting come the Lakeview Hotel segment. mfnick
Yea that and to a lesser extent the labyrinth are the areas I was eluding to about it getting a bit much combat wise. But yea, lighting was getting a bit of an issue here as well. It was initially pretty cool just how dark and oppressive it was - really made me happy to own an OLED at that point. But eventually got a bit tiresome.
DANGERMAN
Yeah, I've seen the hotel played, I think thematically it's important that it's better lit. I think if I was up to that I'd have just carried on tonight, that's a change of tone even if it'd take me a couple of nights to get through
DANGERMAN
I'm getting near the end of this and something I've noticed that isn't important, it just stood out to me. When I closed down the game just, the most recent achievement I got (playing on Steam) was also got by 42% of the people playing on Steam. I've watched the tape in the hotel, there really isn't a ton left, which means of all the people who have started Silent Hill 2 on Steam, about 40% have beaten it, which is a really high clear rate for a game of this length
Nag
I've just had a quick look on the PlayStation app and the trophy for watching the tape is just over 43% so it's a pretty high percentage there too. Nice to see tbf...
DANGERMAN
I finished this the other day and got the Leave ending. I know it's not exactly a happy ending still, but I almost wish I'd got a worse one. I see James as a more complex character than a lot of people do, not a monster, but it's not that I begrudge him acceptance. I think, after everything, the world feels like it would keep taking. The sadder endings have the better writing I think
