DANGERMAN Posted May 11 Posted May 11 that's appalling 😅 so there's no physical version of Doom. Why even bother with the disc in that case. Microsoft are so shit
one-armed dwarf Posted May 11 Author Posted May 11 Hopefully at some point in the future it gets a GOG release. That way at least it's sorta 'preserved' without the DRM stuff, even if not physical They have DOOM 2016 on there but not Eternal so who knows

It’s shit and a waste of resources but they’ll never create a way of selling my digital copies on - why would they? So I’d still buy it that way when my GP runs out.
Maf Posted May 13 Posted May 13 Max is playing this and maybe I’m projecting but he seems bored. He’s already complaining about the amount of engagements instead of getting to the meat of it (fighting the boss/mini boss) I’ve never been able to write what it is about these Doom games that leaves me so cold, but Dark Ages seems to highlight the treadmill of it all. Which feels closer to what I get out of these games. They’re never ending and so flat. Literally in this case
one-armed dwarf Posted May 13 Author Posted May 13 Tbh, I found Eternal's levels boring until I did it on nightmare, then I enjoyed the secrets checklist. I felt really motivated to get the different runes and things to really nail down the way I wanted my version of the slayer to play. But I do wish we could have a modern doom which has Eternal's complex character-action style gameplay but with classic Doom level design, and makes searching the secrets more interesting. Modern AAA level design in general feels like this checklist of collectables, I genuinely feel that achievements have had a negative influence on game design into making things like this Jeff chatting about Doom, he likes it edit and a Giantbomb 'quicklook', what's that?
DisturbedSwan Posted May 14 Posted May 14 Picked this up yesterday, made a start tonight, impressions to come soon. Really liked 2016 and adored Eternal, looking forward to digging into this more. 1

one-armed dwarf Posted May 15 Author Posted May 15 I missed that one euro deal I saw, sneaky of MS to pull it or maybe I dreamt it. So I'm paying a one month sub to whatever the regular gamepass sub is on pc (11 euro) I really think I'll be buying less AAA games at release from now on, the prices are insane and somehow I expect them to not stop at 80 euro. But I don't want to use GP that often either. It makes sense if you don't replay games as much maybe but I really like revisiting stuff and that makes GP work out more expensive for me overtime 1
DANGERMAN Posted May 15 Posted May 15 The Xbox app on pc really is shit 😅 I'd give more explanation but I honestly can't explain it
one-armed dwarf Posted May 15 Author Posted May 15 Yeah I was trying to update and it kept saying 'update failed' with no information, then it just worked. I hope it just stays out of the way enough to let me play the game without issues
one-armed dwarf Posted May 15 Author Posted May 15 I played so much of it I gave myself a headache, which is both criticism and praise I think It's way more fatiguing than Eternal, cause of all the punching and visual effects on screen. But it sure ain't slow
one-armed dwarf Posted May 16 Author Posted May 16 The steam CCU is pretty weak. Got to be a lot of people feeling the same way about game prices I feel https://www.resetera.com/threads/doom-the-dark-ages-launches-to-31k-ccu.1190784/
DANGERMAN Posted May 16 Posted May 16 It's a game that will sell over time, but it has a lot going against it. I think it looks good but you can see from this thread that a lot of people don't like look of the changes to the gameplay. The price, Microsoft aiding genocide (probably less of a concern for your average Steam user tbf), there's a decent amount of negativity towards it
one-armed dwarf Posted May 16 Author Posted May 16 I doubt the average steam user knows what BDS is tbh Not that I'm a paragon of virtue, I did just become a new GP subscriber after all
Maf Posted May 16 Posted May 16 It’s taken me 4 hours to download this so I will give it exactly that time to make it worthwhile.
