Game of the Year 2024

2 of them are collections and 1 is a straight remake. Same game but new graphics (and somehow half the frame rate)
 

DQ3 could be in top 10 maybe, but apart from adding a new job class I don’t know how much of a new game it really is.

 

Shadow could also maybe be in it, but it’s bundled with the original game and feels more like expansion/dlc than a whole new thing. 
 

P3Reload is my #1 because even though it still adheres pretty tightly to the same structure and combat system. it’s basically a complete remake just in the same shape of the original. Plus I still think the Shift mechanic is the coolest thing I’ve seen in a game all year. It’s weird to say about a JRPG but it had the best buttons

I agree though that there's no real logic to your list, these games all came out this year and DQ3 is as much an overhaul as P3. Plus IIRC you mentioned you played Paper Mario on Gamecube, so you didn't 'discover' it this year either.

I don’t know anything about DQ3. I hadn’t even seen it until now

 

I scratched Little Kitty, Big City off the list (pun intended). I played it for 30 minutes and deem it to be garbage

I can tell you Plucky Squire is dull as fuck, Flintlock is extremely meh, and Metal Slug Tactics is a huge disappointment. So that’s 3 you don’t have to bother with. You’re welcome.

This is my type of storytelling. It isn’t pretending to be confusing and mysterious by making up words or pushing jargon or dropping 10 tonnes of lore on the player. It’s straight forward, simple, evocative dialogue which gives just enough to understand but not enough so I want to see more.  
 

Over the past few years I’ve really grown out of storytelling in games. It’s such so boring most of the time. This one hooked me immediately. This that good shit.

I’ve updated mine now. FFVII Rebirth has now been pushed out. If you told me after Remake that the next instalment wouldn’t even crack my top 10 I’d have slapped the taste out of your mouth. So fucking disappointing  

 

Silent Hill 2 may move up if I get chance to play it more and it keeps up the high quality.

I think it’s a really good top 3. 
 

Astrobot is super high quality, refreshing for Sony, and just a really good 3D platformer which you don’t see many of at this level. I don’t quite like it as much as everyone else, but #3 I think is right

 

Even though I fell off Metaphor around the 20hr mark, I did really like it and been thinking about it a lot and gearing up to get back in to it. Gameplay systems are a bit derivative of Persona, and after Persona 3 Reload in the same year it’s hard to ignore, but I really like what that game is about and definitely going to be a game I get back to soon
