New game from the Ori devs, much darker in tone.

Looking like GotY to me. I want this now. Shame their channel is getting no views (and this came out earlier in the month and only just saw it randomly)

 

Marketing/PR needs to get their weight up. This should be easy sell. It looks so good

I’ve never bought an early access game before but I’m tempted with this. Apparently all there is is the first chapter, but presumably when the full game releases I won’t have to pay any extra?

Yeah, that's usually how early access works. You buy the game and you get access to unfinished code, which will gradually get updated until it reaches the release build.

 

DF took a look at it, too, really does look fabulous:

 

 

I wonder how far along it is. The playable build here looks extremely polished, but if they go down the BG3 route of building it act-for-act then this could still be ways off.

So this was being published under a company Take Two dissolved or something so now the studio is full indie (although I expect must have some investors as this game is huge) they also announced it’s currently 30% off on Steam

 

I really loved that first Ori game and was excited for this. Brand aside I thought this game looked cool

 

But it turns out the owner of this studio is one of those right-wing, anti-DEI, anti-Sweet Baby inc, ‘games were better before they were woke’ bullshit cunts. And the smell of the bullshit coming from his cunt is so putrid it’s put a stink on the game and I don’t think I want to play their products anymore. Big shame

Yeah, Mahler has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons ever since the Ori days. In hindsight it's probably no surprise considering he had a rather high-up position at Blizzard, as we all know what happened over there.

 

It's difficult, but I think by the time this comes out on console I will still check it out. There's tons of people under him who might not share his ideas and who put more effort into the project than he did and to me dismissing the game entirely just because their head honcho is a cretin would feel a bit unfair towards them. But I can also completely understand the other position and there's certainly thresholds where I'd draw a line as well.

I’m sure there’s lots of games and games studios made by assholes. After Space Marine 2 came out, someone on Twitter said the equivalent of “good old fashioned game with none of that woke shit” which the director then replied with the soft nod and equivalent “yes, this what we wanted to achieve”

 

Even though my understanding is 40k is like right-wing satire. 
 

But I played that game and ended up liking it and then saw these comments and was like, eh, I don’t want to play this again. So didn’t 

 

There’s probably lots of games to get uppity about whether they taking funding from the military, license gun manufacturers, owned by Saudi companies and as talked about the other day China getting really big in games and what does that mean

You could take this mindset to the nth degree with technology, transport, food and clothing and be ever so slightly fucked... does it really matter what some outspoken twat really thinks?

It's a hard one, we can kinda all draw our own lines on this. On technology one thing that's gaining a lot of traction online is general boycotts of american goods and services, which I think makes sense but it's also something I'd struggle with a bit. I guess you got to choose your own battles a bit with that stuff.

 

I sort of don't think it would be so bad for us to be a little less Americanized in our consumption of things though, there's so much fucking propaganda in their movies (speaking specifically to the point about technology mentioned above, not the Ori developer who's Austrian I think)

I'm definitely not trying to argue or belittle anyone who thinks this way... good luck to them. I think the fact I'm not overly involved with X or that kind've thing insulates me from this stuff quite a lot.

I think it does matter. I know it’s the direction of the world right now, but I really dislike it and it puts off wanting to condone/support it. 
 

It’s not me sitting here acting all perfectly principled. It would probably be easy to drive this logic to a point where it’s full of hypocrisy and inconsistency. 

 

But ignorance provides a bit of bliss to a lot of it, however when I do see it I’m just hmm. I don’t like you and I don’t like how you work. So I won’t play your work, either 

Which is a shame because I loved Ori 1, this game looked cool, and when starting to follow the guy on Twitter he seemed cool and talking about much he loves Nintendo and how they inspired his games, game design and process, etc 

 

Then he turns around and talks about how DEI is pointless/bad and left-wing agendas and it’s like ooooh

On the plus side there are so many interesting games out there that you're really spoilt for choice if you want to move the money away from this game and put it towards something else. In this day and age I'm glad when something helps me filter out games because there's too much stuff coming out (so far it's usually been DRM or digital-only releases from big publishers).
