DANGERMAN Posted February 13 Posted February 13 This looked good. I maybe don't need yearly Silent Hill games, but I was a bit surprised they didn't stick a 5 in the title of this
Nag Posted February 13 Posted February 13 I didn't realise it was set in the UK... hopefully the final boss is a Silent Hill version of Kier Starmer that we can bludgeon to death.
DisturbedSwan Posted February 13 Author Posted February 13 Would much prefer a Nigel Farage final boss myself, his special could be projectile shit he spews at you from his mouth 😂 1
Sly Reflex Posted February 13 Posted February 13 Can we have a rule where we keep politics to the politics thread, unless the game has specific politics in it?
one-armed dwarf Posted February 13 Posted February 13 Well, we just had a franchise horror movie use a virus quarantine as a sort of allegory for Brexit Britain, so maybe Farage monsters are a good idea actually 🤔

Maryokutai Posted February 13 Posted February 13 Well, as both a non-UK person and Silent Hill virgin I have to say this looked really intriguing. Way too scary for me obviously, but it's a cool protagonist and setting. Didn't even realise they announced this years ago, thought it was a new thing yesterday.
Nag Posted February 13 Posted February 13 Being realistic I've got to admit I don't know the devs at all... I hope it's a full fledged game and not some 3 hour side quest thing because with Silent Hill it's kind've hard to tell sometimes what you're getting.

I don't think they'd shown anything other than the title art until the other night. I kind of assumed it was going to be some side thing too, either like that weird tv thing they did or, at best, that Short Message thing that hasn't seemed to lead to anything
OCH Posted February 14 Posted February 14 It looks interesting. I won't go further than that at the moment, because if it's 1st person I won't be playing it.
DisturbedSwan Posted February 15 Author Posted February 15 I don’t know why the devs changed their name but they were previously No Code who made Stories Untold and Observation. Both smaller titles than this though by the looks of it but difficult to tell at this stage. As with anything Silent Hill I’m pretty much always for it, unless reviews are horrendous or something but so far so good on that front post renaissance.
DisturbedSwan Posted July 29 Author Posted July 29 Previews have come out and they’re very positive, didn’t realise the game director is the same as Alien Isolation either. Some have made a few parallels between the two.
Nag Posted July 29 Posted July 29 So it seems there is actually combat... OK, you have my attention... And the game is designed to have massive black bars at the top and bottom of the screen aping the widescreen look... and you've lost me again right there. 🙄
DisturbedSwan Posted July 29 Author Posted July 29 Inspired by The Evil Within haha, thankfully you can turn the black bars off.
DANGERMAN Posted July 29 Posted July 29 I'm still not sure about the stealth, but it certainly looks well put together. If it's by some of the people that worked on Alien Isolation it's going to be properly tense. I think I like the TV gimmick of seeing through walls and doors, I wonder what else they'll do with it

one-armed dwarf Posted July 30 Posted July 30 The decision they've made with the aspect ratio is really strange cause no matter what you do, I don't think you can make a game with a freely controllable camera look cinematic, framing doesn't work this way. But it looks like they just want to put (most of) the hud in there and keep the frame for the action. Which makes sense I think, makes it look really clean and free of clutter. There is apparently a 16:9 option in there anyway. I think this looks better than the last two they did, SH2R really did my head in with the combat and apparently F goes even harder with that. This just looks like very bog standard survival horror combat, which I consider a good thing, I don't come to this genre to learn enemy attack patterns. I come to it to get punished for missing a shot or, vice versa, being too frugal, without having to worry about skill and execution
