Yeah, I thought about that after posting, clockwork is not the right description because the cogs don’t necessarily all make each other turn. But it’s just the amount of things they are simulating in one game and the incredible level of detail that makes GTA such a wide experience

 

Although one of the things I never liked about GTA5 was it felt like Jack of all, master of none. It probably does more things than any other video game for that time, but it doesn’t do anything better than any video game at that time, either

 

Where as with GTA4 I thought the more focused aspects really worked. Every body mocks the the toll booth but you all stopped and paid it instead of dealing with the cops. I really like stuff like that
