Perfect Dark

😮

That's one hell of a weird collaboration but I'm all up for it. Way more in line with CD's talent pool than Avengers ever was.

I could've sworn this was supposed to be third person...😕

Unless they mentioned that at some point, why would it be?

I really liked Perfect Dark back in the day but I don’t understand why it’s still a thing people push for. It was one good game over 20 years ago. Just make a new game.

Why are you like this.

People like getting their nostalgia ticked and it's easier for the publisher to market an existing IP, no matter how old, than a new one. Just look at how many people wished Exoprimal was Dino Crisis.

Also there's way more than the director who has left The Inititive. Apparently almost 2/3rds of the studio is gone, which in retrospect explains why Crystal Dynamics got brought in. Which I think might work out in the game's favour in the end. Looking at it from the outside, the Initiative seemed like a hotchpotch of accomplished designers Microsoft pulled away from other publishers in the hope of getting something big out. If CD has now a bigger say in the matter in designing and developing this game this all might be a good thing. But you have to wonder what is going on with MS' first-party studios. Outside of Playground and Coalition they all seem like a disorganised mess.

Bit of a generic Joanna design now that I look at the thumbnail, but this looked so interesting and it's always nice to feel Mirror's Edge influences somewhere else.

No date is slightly worrying though, not even willing to commit to 2025.

MUTHAFUCKING PERFECT DARK I CAN'T BELIEVE IT

I don't think it was the best thing of their show but it was the thing that made me stop and go MUTHAFUCKING PERFECT DARK I CAN'T BELIEVE IT

But original Perfect Dark was breaking in to places to hack a computer and get out again using gadgets. It had laptop guns and invisible ninjas and all kinds of things. It's just it was on the N64 so it was more Goldeneye shooter than Deus Ex.

Somewhere, probably on this forum, I said something like why bother remaking Perfect Dark it has nothing to offer today. This is the problem with having no imagination I was just thinking how do you modernise Perfect Dark. You do it like this and put it in the perfect genre for it.

No one else seems to care, maybe it was obvious. But to me this has rattled my brain, it's such a brilliant move.

I'm annoyed I didn't say it in this thread, it must have been in a general one but I definitely remember saying a new Perfect Dark should be like Dishonored.  I guess the N64 game has light immersive sim elements in harder difficulties so this makes perfect sense to me.  It's the right direction for it.

It was like Goldeneye where on harder difficulties it had extra objectives to clear the level. But it was a 90's N64 shooter so harder objectives meant wandering around looking for the thing to shoot or button to press. Those games weren't ready for immersive sim territory yet. But now they're doing it, it's like oh. You muthafucka

The only thing is most of Perfect Dark was at night (It had the tropical villa level but generally it was actually dark). I hope this game has more of a dark, neon 90's futuristic style and not broad day Mass Effect looking levels the whole game

Technically if it's an immersive sim then it should support stealth-wankery tech-scanning bullshit but also the much more honest approach of blowing a door up and killing the people on the other side (sneakily) and/or killing people with a gun but before they realise it, so also sneaky

The only reason that Paul Denton told you to be stealthy in the first mission of Deus Ex is cause they were his buddies, it's not that the game wanted you to be stealthy. Immersive sim is also about creatively exploding people, with brainy outside-the-box-thinking explosions
