Launch trailer

Apart from the walk cycle I think this game looks amazing. Some of the bigger sequences look really cool. I’ve never even seen the original so comparisons will be really interesting

Not sure if the game has voice acting or it’s just for the trailer. I hope it has some voice acting for important cutscenes or something

I hope this isnt massively long. I've never played the original, so I'm really hoping this is good, but I'd also like to finish it, and it feels like everything I want to get done by the end of the year is a massive rpg.

Still not sure what platform to get this on either. Switch would let me play handheld and get it physical (as opposed to Steam Deck), but PS5 will likely be the better experience on console

1+2 releasing on 30th Oct 25. Also digital only trilogy pack the same day

The Switch 2 version is Game Keycard only, but Switch 1 version is on the cartridge, so I’ll be getting that one

I wonder how Game Key cards will hold their value in the 2nd hand market. Sure they can still be sold on, but it’s hard to think of them as anything other than a download key, which I feel like should degrade the value by a lot

I'd expect short-term you can kind of get away with reselling them but after a few years people probably look at them in the same way they look at digital games and won't shell out more than low double digits.

In any case this doesn't bode well for FFVII Remake, if SE can't even be convinced to pay the additional storage space fee for what I presume is Japan's biggest gaming IP (or at worst tied with Pokémon). I wonder if Nintendo is planning to do something about this or if they plan on just leaning back and watch this Trojan Horse for digital distribution do its work.

Well Nintendo have set it up, so they won’t stop it. They know publishers would rather go digital and want to cut down production and distribution costs. But Nintendo knows their core audience really likes boxes and cartridges and things like that. So there’s this 50/50 give and take which is more like a 80/20 give and take.

While it is kind of dumb and I don't see any reason as to why they wouldn't do this, it also doesn't really change anything about the fact that the Switch 2 version doesn't exist as a cartridge. The upgrade would be a download, just like the Game Key Card, so the main issue remains.

Unfortunately the vastly different install bases of Switch 1 and 2 make a sales comparison moot, otherwise this would have been an interesting case study of proper physical vs. Game Key Card.

My hope was they’d be an upgrade path so I could buy the Switch 1 version and upgrade to Switch 2. Complicated. But I get the full game + the better performance.

But fuck them I’ll save money and play at 30, fine by me.

I've already played both of these so I'm less arsed about picking this up, especially as I've really struggled to get through the 3 remake (I'm around the tomb and getting battered from not being able to heal in there)
