Top 50 Games of the Previous Few Years

Yep, that's a list. 

 

There's a few things lower down I'd swap out as I just don't think they've contributed that meaningfully to video games but there isn't much to argue against when the parameters are so broad.

Looking back on the videogame list - I'm quite surprised that there's no TellTale games on there, or even Life is Strange - given the development of the multipath storytelling genre over the last few years.

 

Not a huge fan of them myself but generally get a notable mention from the critics.

We could do this ourselves if everyone posted a top 20 or something,  then added them up. Number one is worth 20 points, 2 is worth 19 points etc.

The difficulty of doing this is different interpretations of how we classify what's great - for example I was especially enraptured by GTA Vice City when it came out, so would place on my list, but technically the subsequent years haven't been kind to it, and it's not say as polished as GTA V, so do I put that down instead (even though I didn't enjoy it quite as much).

I doubt my backlog will ever be complete, and I’ve excluded (some) games I haven’t finished (like Metroid Prime, Wind Waker, Resi 4, Persona 4 and Sekiro) but here goes:

Maybe I’ll edit the list later but that looks about right. I’m not really arguing that any one of these games is better than the others, and I’ve been pretty harsh on current games, but I’ve mostly gone with games that made a lasting impression on me. It was pretty easy to think of 19 games and then I was torn what to put last, but once I thought of Infinite Space I couldn’t really justify putting anything else instead of it. So I guess that’s my quirky choice that no one else will pick.
