Sacked That Off Mate

I don't know that it's in the spirit of the thread but I need a bit of a rant about it but FFXIV is binned until Endwalker comes out, I think. A combination of having shit interactions with people trying to get savage reclears on pick up parties and being in a toxically casual 'static' where the black mage is doing healer damage (my scholar is neck to neck with him) and has to be carried. It's just making me very bitter and I hate the game now, and a bit depressed by it and the lack of curiosity some people have for why they could be holding people back. When EW comes out I'm flatly going to refuse to be in the FC's static for savage even if it earns me some enmity, because I don't feel my time is being respected by other people in it. They can find a different healer and kick me out, I don't care. I don't think people appreciate how stressful it is to be in those instances where not everyone is interested in pulling their weight and you and a few others are the designated 'carriers'

Also Resident Evil Village, because I can't get into it at all. It just feels very silly and not in a way that has been enjoyable. The series is spinning its wheels for me and the way you aim and shoot your weapons feels pretty terrible to me. Which is weird cause for all its faults I think RE3make played excellently. This one is the weakest RE Engine effort for me.

I don't really know how it works in FF, but I had a motto in WoW. You pull it, you tank it. As a healer my only objective is to keep the Tank alive. As a Tank my only goal is to keep the Healer from getting killed. If you get yourself killed, then you'll stay on the deck until we wipe, or we'll res you once the current fight is over. I know accidents happen sometimes, but a lot of people just do it on purpose.

To some extent I follow this in ESO as well, although tanking here isn't like anything else I've seen in any other game.

What it is is a series of 'high end difficulty' fights where you have a week to complete 4 'floors'. These guys I'm with took 3 months to clear just one floor due to a combination of time-wasters (people only showing up when it suited them) and low ability of some members. I got to the last floor on my own with randos. (the first fight is called 'Eden Umbra (Savage)'.

The thing that frustrates me is the implicit expectation of certain people to carry low performers, but it turns the game into a job. It's also not possible anyway, the DPS check is too high for a healer to fix that issue. Some of these people aren't ready for this kind of content, but due to in-game and IRL relationships it's a difficult thing to deal with in a way that doesn't cause massive friction. This will all sound very toxic to outsiders but it's a massive time commitment (and waste of said time) when this happens.

I might just have to force the question on Tuesday next time we meet cause I'm just having such a shit time with this game now, and it's not something where you can just alt-f4 on a group of 8 people.

Yep. This is the reason I gave up trying to do stuff like Destiny raids an the ilk, because there were always 1 or 2 people there that were taking spots that were not cut out for it.

Also if you want to do these things, be at your best, getting drunk or stones and then saying "Oh well, we can try again next week" after you fuck up is only going to isolate you. Get wasted after the win, not before. Or don't bother at all and just play something easier, since you're wasting everyone's time ultimately.

Resident Evil Revelations 2

I don't know what I expected, it's a coop Resident Evil game, of course it's going to be a miserable experience when played solo. And they really went out of their way to make this as annoying as possible if you don't have a coop partner. For example, there's only one character per duo who can use a flashlight. For the Claire/Moira pairing it's Moira, who doesn't use guns, so you can kind of find a rhythm between using her during exploration and switching to Claire for combat. With Barry/Natalia though it's the other way around and Natalia, the "non-combat" character, can't use the flashlight, but only she can spot certain items and spot enemies through walls. So you either have to hope AI Barry lights your way (he doesn't) or just go in blind all the time (you do).

Then there's the usual garbage AI coop stuff like your partner jumping on boxes and containers randomly when you try to approach an enemy stealthily, or them not healing you for minutes but then finally deciding to do so the exact second you use a healing herb yourself, so you waste one. And so on.

Too little time for stuff like this. I almost made it through Episode 2 but enough is enough.

This was honestly one of the worst games I've ever played and by far the worst RE game. It was just painful to me, no idea why I even ended up finishing it but it was just dreadful.

The Ascent.

Deleted this yesterday, it's just boring tbf... and what with my backlog and other stuff releasing in the near future I just can't be bothered to put in the time to finish it.

Art of Rally.

There's nothing really wrong with this game, I've gotten around 700g from it and that's enough to call it quits. I saw a description somewhere that this is the most chill driving game there is... in a way it's probably a bit too chill for it's own good.

Assassins Creed Valhalla.

Only made it about a hour in. Completely lost all patience and tolerance for these type of game mechanics. Breaking boxes to collect loot, using detective vision to find plants to pick, collecting a million bits of shite to craft, sneaking through large bushes and scoping out bases. Just so, so sick of this type of stuff.

The moment it asked me to press in the right stick to find berries in that washed out vision I just felt like selling my entire game collection and never touching another game ever again. Luckily only borrowed it from a mate so no loss.

Valhalla was such a bloody chore. Odyssey was excellent, I absolutely loved it. Unfortunately Valhalla was a vastly inferior sequel.

I recently sacked off the Cobra Kai game. I love a good scrolling beat em up, remains my favourite genre. Unfortunately, Streets Of Rage this ain’t. It’s ok enough, at first. But then the levels get tediously long, and the difficulty takes a massive spike, with no way to change it. You get additional characters as you play, but you can get gangbanged so easily, and lose health so quickly, that it doesn’t make much difference.

I got halfway through one level, a good 10 minutes into it. All 4 characters died. And I got shunted straight back to the start of the level. Which resulted in “Well, that can fuck off”. Back to boomerang it goes.

Not quite 'sacked it off' just yet, but I don't have a threads worth of impressions on this thing. Melty Blood Type Lumina. A really cool looking fighting game but I run into an issue with it where the minimal residual knowledge developed through Strive puts me at square zero with this game. It's not super deep or anything, the combo routes seem basic enough to figure out. I've watched lots of other players at this point. It's just the way you assert yourself in neutral is hard to wrap my head around. Partly cause of the limited residual knowledge I mentioned, playing a weird character like I-No doesn't lend itself to understanding how to play a character like Ahika (more of a Millia archetype). Like I've never actually learned how to play a character who dashed around a lot and turning air combos into safe jumps for more oki is a big thing in this.

I'm gonna mess around with it some more though, but it's firmly a kinda side project game to develop muscle memory with the hitbox for faster, more dash heavy anime fighters than a main project like I-No in strive is for me. That's the other thing, the hitbox for me is like the dualshock for me when I was 10 and playing video game for the first time. You don't transition to other stuff and pick up on how to play it automatically, still a lot of work. I know some of the technicalities of this game but the (french) bread and butter basics have a long way to go cause of that.

I'm up for just spamming random buttons at anyone on here who still is interested in this though.

Also I found out that the background lore of this game is a porn game, that made me lol

I never found a way to get into these anime fighters with the dash-heavy neutral game. It's like going from 2D to 3D basically, a completely different approach to the genre and usually a lot faster than classic 2D fighters. The best transitional game would probably have been BlazBlue for you, but I doubt there's much going on online in that these days – and if there is, it's probably the hardcore crowd that wipes the floor with beginners.

It took me a very long time to warm up to Valhalla, it is a very long game and took me a good 20 hours to properly get into it. It has a very rocky start and I wasn’t sure on it for quite awhile, once it got its claws in me though it is one of my favourite AC games with one of the best overall stories with a genius implementation of episodic-like stories that I’ve not seen done before. I put 120 hours into it, 100 percented it, Platted it and never got bored, a truly magnificent game.

1 hour really isn’t enough to get a grip of such a monster (ooo er 😂) of a game, more ‘didn’t give it a go mate’ rather than sacked it off 😘.

I thought you liked it overall just not as much as Odyssey? That’s the impression I got from the thread anyway.

I played about 6 or 7 hours of that, I didn't leave Norway but it also felt the same stuff all over again. Did some raids

I'm not convinced it changes dramatically deeper in, given how Ubisoft games have been. Not earned the benefit of the doubt at this point

Very pretty though, terrible sound quality though what was up with that? I guess covid

Back For Blood. Fuck it, I’m done with this. The constant barrage of special zombies makes every battle a fucking chore. The idiotic AI of your team mates makes playing solo completely impossible.

I stopped playing a couple of weeks back. And I’ve utterly no intention of ever going back to it.

Fuck this game.

Elden Ring

For now, I think this is better off here. The playtime afforded to an open world Souls game, actually was detrimental to me. Coupled with the fact the first few hours are a war of attrition, until suitably levelled. I'm bored. If I was inclined I could steamroll to the end. Discounting optional fights, I have six fights all in a row til the end. I just can't be arsed.

Final Vendetta. For the most part, this was an enjoyable scrolling beat em up. Until the last boss, who is a total cunt, even on Easy. He repeatedly chucks knives at you, which kill you in about 3 hits. Teleports around the room, making it hard to even hit him. And then he has a second form where he’s even harder.

Fuck this game.
