Maf
I’ve never out and out cried at a game but a lot of games that have got me choked up or a little emotional is MGS3 - When Snake refuses the White House honours MGS4 - The end gun shot (which is almost immediately undone but it does get to me) Tetris Effect - The first level, final level and credits (playing through the “campaign” in one go is an amazing experience) Life is Strange - chapter 3 with the girl in the wheel chair Then honestly a bunch of Nintendo stuff. I think Nintendo do celebration and nostalgia better than anybody, which can be just affecting to me as things that pull at the sad heart strings I want to know what games people have finished that have made them clap at the end. I remember doing it for Skyward Sword on the Wii. Then had 10 years of people shit talking the game. Played it again on Switch, got to the end, and gave it a little clap again that game is magic. Uneven, to say the least. But ultimately magic EDIT: oh, and I know it’s just a licensed song and probably something half finished sitting around that the singer had no plans for, but the end credits to Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are so joyous and creates nostalgia for something I just played
OCH
Fighter's Destiny 3 - Remembering that Nintendo does have a non-Smash fighting game series of it's own. New Star Fox - A new console instalment that finally moves beyond Star Fox 64/Lylat Wars and it's formula. New 3D Mario - It's a given for a new console release New Wave Race - The outlier. But it's always been a fun yet different racing series.

shinymcshine
Enemy placements - specifically notable but not exclusive to Tomb Raider and Uncharted. ' Hey boss, reporting for work, what's today's job?' ' Right you need to abseil down that cliff, shimmy along the narrow path, swing across the gorge, and there's a little alcove with some boxes, that you need to guard in case anyone tries to steal them' ' Sounds unlikely, and a lot of effort to get there, must be valuable ' 'Not really, just a few empty crates and a slack handful of ammo and a couple of bandages..' ' Okay, I better get moving, since I only get paid the mercenary rate once I'm on site don't I...?' ' Damn right soldier, have a good day!'

DANGERMAN
monster closets. The enemy was just stuck in a box in the wall for no reason, be they human or demon, waiting for someone to walk past I'll also go for a Resident Evil one because they usually use RE images for this. I've got a rocket launcher, a shotgun, an automatic rifle, but I can't find a way to carry an extra key?
Maf
For me it’s enemies and allies not interacting. Like in a Souls game where a fight pushes you back to where an NPC is standing and they don’t move while you fight to the death in front of them. There was a particularly egregious one in Lords of the Fallen where a NPC was like “I’m always here, tending the gardens” and I was like well why don’t you care about that zombie puking poison all over it, and your feet Diablo 4 had some of that as well where enemies chase you until you cross the line in to a camp and they just give up and walk away and the guards on the gate are so clearly not apart of the world at all because they have no reaction to a beast running up to their face Camp locations get to me as well. Dragon Age Veilguard has tonnes of this where the separation of civilians hanging around chatting and a mob of blighted dark spawn is a corner or a wall. It’s like you guys might want to move further away
shinymcshine
Party based RPGs : when you build up potential party of 12 or so companions as you do various quests (inc. their personal plotlines) but when it comes to the save the world / universe final battle you can only take 3-5 with you - and the rest just stay in camp in a big sulk rather than popping up as NPCs to actually help you out !

Reminds me of Suikoden. 108 recruited characters. You take six into the final area.😄
Metroid66
I'm coming out in favour of game logic, especially since I heard they were thinking of going RDR2 (horse holding your guns nonsense) with the gun carrying capacity in the new GTA, meaning you'll probably have to select weaponry from the boot of your car before wading into some nefarious activity on the Vice city streets. What's wrong with carrying 8 guns and still having room for a rocket launcher in your y fronts? Tell me, dammit!

I really like the BioWare approach here, where they often design the final missions in a way that gives your party members something to do even if they are, for game design reasons, not part of your active squad. I think my biggest pet peeve has been mentioned already and it's blocked-off paths that make no sense. Be it knee high walls or impassable locked wooden doors despite your character running around with a rocket launcher or five different axes. I get the level design idea behind it, but sometimes I think there should be smarter ways to communicate blockades visually. As for favourite: the potion. It makes no sense, but gulping down some green liquid while your character probably has multiple internal bleedings and three broken limbs just to go 'ahh' and run around like an athlete again never gets old.

mfnick
SSX 2012 (360 gen) It actually scored well - 82 MC. But you’d never know it from how people talk about it. So this is a revisionist/opinion one. Everyone just says it was bad whenever it gets brought up and gets disregarded immediately - including reviewers so where’s that 82 come from? Anyway, I fucking loved it. Got the full 1000GS & played I constantly. It wasn’t quite as good as Tricky but it was absolutely better than 3 and especially On Tour. Darksiders 3 64 Metacrtic which is insane to me. I’d have never played it if it wasn’t for getting it “free” on Game Pass. It’s genuinely one of, if not my actual favourite Soulslikes & I’d easily take it over any Souls game apart from Sekiro. Easily an 8/10 even if you’re not as enamoured as me with it.
DANGERMAN
This is a good idea for a question and it's annoying me that I can't think of a better answer beyond Sonic 😅 Secret Rings on the Wii was a great game if you gave it a chance, because it did take time for find it's feet. Frontiers too is a great game if you can get past the draw distance
shinymcshine
Pretty sure @Maryokutai is with me on this one..... Venetica was quite a charming action RPG (played more like Fable than Elder Scrolls), definitely way better than the Metacritic scores suggest (even that 61 feels harsh).
