Jimboxy
Been on the live chat with Dreamhost this afternoon. They are saying the slow down is because they have been doing work on the shared server we are hosted on. Apparently they have stopped now, so we should be back up to speed. I will say, loading this page just took far too long, so I may need to contact them again. If we can keep an eye on it over the weekend, try and update this post if it is slow, or if you get any 404 or 504 errors screen grab them and post them here (again, if possible).
regemond
I just tried to upload a pic to the food porn thread and got an error message of '-200'. I was gonna screenshot and post here, but that's a pointless endeavour if pic uploads aren't working for me...
Hendo
I’ve raised a ticket with the software people and given them free reign to do whatever is necessary to either fix the problem or find out what’s causing it. It’s most likely a problem on the server and the host is not letting on fully what’s going on.
Jimboxy
Our PHP Memory settings had been erased in the upgrade, so our memory limit was too low.I've upped it again now, so hopefully we should see some improvement (although this page took ages to load). Probably worth emptying your caches as well, see if that makes any difference.Fingers crossed.
HandsomeDead
In regards to dark mode I've noticed I can't embed YouTube videos with it. I had to pop back into the default theme to do it
Hendo
Yeah I still haven’t had a chance to tinker yet. I’m not even sure the option is there, but will try and make it the best I can and also have a look if I can find a better one. The problem is you can either make stuff from scratch if you know what you’re doing or can be arsed, or sell or give away themes and add-ons. That Dark Theme is a freebie so there’s no doubt much better ones but most sell for $30 which is a little steep for a theme.
regemond
Feels a bit faster for me. Pics are uploading now too. Nice work whoever fixed it and however they did it!

Not sure why youtube videos won't embed for you, they work fine for on phone and laptop:
Jimboxy
Yeah I still don't think it's quite right. I might try upping the memory some more perhaps.
Hendo
It might be that we'll have to start archiving the biggest threads and start new ones to replace them. If anyone gets a slow spike from only certain threads, let us know which ones they are. I don't think it'll be the end of the world if we have to start some of the bigger random threads over. Sly Reflex
The guys over at Now Loading used to nip threads off when they got big because they caused slowdown. I don't see why we'd be any different.
Bob
Is there a higher bandwidth package or alternative that the forum could be easily migrated to? I don't know about anyone else but I'd happily chip in a tenner. No idea how much that sort of thing costs.
mmmark
They all load quite quickly for me regardless of size. But that might be only ever using mobile. Delete mcu thread, see if it makes a difference? ?
Hendo
Made 4 new threads out of existing massive ones. Locked and moved the originals to Technology folder. Anyone has more big threads they want doing the same, let us know, but I'm all modded out for the night.
Hendo
Right, I've split some old threads and made some new ones. I've never been a big fan of having huge mega threads anyway, and something is causing slowdown in them. I've made one for PS+ and one for Game Pass & Gold. Could probably do with a new one for random Sony and random MS stuff. Don't forget the deals section, which is where I moved some of the recent Sony posts on the current sale. I wasn't gonna put an Archive folder up, just put the old ones in Tech, but they seemed to slowing down the Tech folder. So you can read the old posts, can't reply to them nor start a new thread in there.
regemond
Really random question but is it worth putting anything that hasn't been commented on in more than 12 months there and keeping them open so they can still be added to if people play older games? Is there a setting where if a topic is added to it auto goes back to the previous area it was in? Or is that not possible?
Hendo
No, we'd have to manually move it back. If an impressions thread got that big that it needed splitting, then I'd probably just lock the old one but leave it in the Games folder.
DANGERMAN
I've just clicked on the Hot Topic Returns thread and it's taking ages to load. Like literal minutes. I've had time to come in here and type this 19:46 @Jimbo Xiii
Jimboxy
The splitting stuff out is all well and good, but we've never had to do it before. I'm going to take it back to dream host and Invision tomorrow.
Bob
How does one mark everything as read on mobile without going into the threads? There is so much stuff and mad props to the people doing it yo but I would like my new posts button to not take so long to load.
