Project TH

Quote

Korean developer EVR Studio has revealed that Project TH, its ambitious third-person action-adventure inspired by the ‘Shaman’ webtoon by Seok Jung-hyun, will be coming to Xbox Game Pass.

Powered by Unreal Engine 5, the game will feature actors Lee Hong-nae and Heo Sung-tae as “hyper-realistic” characters, while film director Kang Yoon-Sung is taking care of the game's cinematics.

The story centres around something known as ‘The Ordo Project’, which seemingly emerges as a conspiracy to brainwash humans. As part of an elite unit, you'll be tasked with protecting Ordo, but when protagonist Jung-tae soon begins to suffer from a debilitating head pain, events soon begin to spiral.

You can take a closer look at Project TH in the trailers below - the game is coming to Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC, available day one via Game Pass.

There's a good chance it won't resemble these videos at all (although Korean game do generally manage that) but definitely something to keep an eye on if you have a Splinter Cell itch.

Two rather shitty news to conclude the day:

Tequila Works files for insolvency

Thunderful announces restructuring and layoffs

I double-checked to make sure and I've actually bought all of Tequila's console releases. I've yet to play Gylt and The Sexy Brutale but rather enjoyed the rest, so this is really sad to hear, especially after that mountain of challenges they had to climb to get Rime out of the door. There are some really proficient studios in Spain though, so I hope some of them find new jobs there.

Thunderful is worse though, as they're basically firing their entire internal development staff to become a publisher. Quick reminder, those developers used to go under the name of Image and Form and are the guys and girls behind the entire SteamWorld series, out of which the last release, Heist II, only came out a few months ago and is one of my favourite games of the year. I have no idea why that series kept flying under the radar post-Dig, but in any case this is a huge loss for the indie sector IMO, and for the Swedish development scene, too.

On top of HL2 and EP1&2 being free on steam for a few days, it's gotten a bunch of new commentary tracks for the 20th anniversary. Also this new documentary, which includes some brief footage of (aborted) Episode III

Watching the Episode III footage has me curious if many of its designers worked on Prey 2017 🤔. Got to be some given that Arkane also were working on a cancelled HL game (Ravenholm)

They also talk about future Half Life projects so HL3 is still something they seem to be working on here

My hot take on the story is that it takes a bit of a rose tinted view of 'experience staff from head office who have been laid off' - not that I'd wish that on anyone, but they were in senior staff positions of what was a failing business model and didn't take necessary steps to prevent the downward spiral (that eventually resulted in the Fraser takeover).

The article alludes to issues over pre-order stock, inc. steel books, but also acknowledges that the thin margins made on those (if they had been fulfilled) aren't really significant enough , by volume sold, to really make it a profitable business.

i.e. it's been a bit sh*t for many years, but Fraser Group aren't really making it any better.
