That Vara Dark person seems like an idiot, sorry. Really poor sportsmanship to revel in commercial failures of games, especially in this climate. And she seems to be one of those tinfoil hat people who thinks it's linked to a political agenda or whatever.

Anyway, Flintlock was cool. My copy of Dustborn arrives next week. Not expecting a milestone, but I've always liked Tørnquist's games.

Their profile says 'anti censorship advocate' so imma take a wild guess that there one of the reactionary braintrust who thinks that consultancy companies are ruining the industry and will happily (stupidly) cape for as many layoffs as possible

Hopefully Musk manages to self destruct twitter soon enough but then all the stupids will find a new place to hang so who knows

Yeah, no worries, the fury was directed towards dumbass redhead over there.

I think the numbers aren't that surprising though. Dustborn is a niche game that also had zero marketing and Flintlock was on Gamepass, so most people played it outside of Steam.

Konami must be planning on doing something with Castlevania, right? This happens all the time where companies re-release old games or do tie ins to feel out the audience and gauge temperature. I mean, they kind of already doing that with Metal Gear Solid between the Master Collection and now Delta

Hideaki Itsuno left Capcom, the DMC and Dragon's Dogma guy

I remember him saying something like he would leave Capcom if he didn't get to make one of these games, and then he made both of them so it sort of makes sense.

Wonder where that leaves DMC, DD presumably is the type of thing that did well enough to get a Bitterblack Isle style expansion.

Yeah, it's probably something like that plus a couple of easy-peasy 3D 'action' set pieces. The reboot show it's based on did keep the edutainment elements, so hopefully that's alive and well in the game, too. I'm just happy they're still doing something with it, the last two seasons felt super rushed unfortunately.

Crap, apparently Annapurna is in deep trouble: https://www.ign.com/articles/annapurnas-entire-gaming-team-has-resigned

That's not the kind of publisher where you can simply replace all the people and expect it to continue running as is. I suppose most existing deals will be safe but I fear it might go downhill after that. Though at the other hand, an extreme reaction like this can only really be the result of some problematic work environment, so while the outside might have been rainbows and unicorns, it might have been a different story behind closed doors.

I think I mentioned this before but there's this weirdly polished Smurf game coming out in October and they just released a demo. Played through it and it's a super solid game, it looks a bit like Mario 3D World but has a stronger focus on collecting stuff and navigating puzzle-ish environments. Checked out who made it and it's Ocellus Studios, the same guys who made that Marsupilami game almost everyone here played.
