Apple have their own gaming subscription service coming out in September?

These quotes I think are note worthy

Apple's previously announced gaming subscription service, Apple Arcade, will arrive on 19th September, costing $4.99 USD (around £4) a month.

At launch, Apple Arcade will offer access to more than 100 titles - all playable on iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV - for a single cost. Apple says that these games will not appear on any other mobile platform or subscription service, and will be both ad-free and in-app-purchase-free

Three games coming to Apple Arcade were demoed during today's Apple Special Event - Frogger in Toy Town, a new entry in Konami's classic arcade series, developer Simogo's psychedelic musical adventure Sayonara Wild Hearts, and a new 2.5D underwater exploration game from Capcom, titled Shinsekai: Into the Depths.”

What did you think of it?

The retro filter stuff was a bit OTT, but luckily that's changeable.

It's pretty enjoyable, there seems to be more to the fighting than the tutorial tells you, but I was too tired to look into it last night.

Following last Thursday's launch of Apple's games subscription service, Apple Arcade, Google has announced that its own similar offering is coming to Android devices in the US this week.

Google Play Pass, as the service is known, provides all-inclusive access to over 350 titles, all ad-free and in-app-purchase free, and will, like Apple's service, cost $4.99 USD a month.

There are some notable differences between the two offerings, however. While Apple Arcade is focussed entirely on games, Google Play Pass expands that to include apps. Additionally, Play Pass' library consists of existing titles, rather than brand-new exclusives.

Even so, the initial line-up features some real gems, including the likes of Stardew Valley, Terraria, Monument Valley, Limbo, Reigns: Game of Thrones, 80 Days, Sorcery, Pocket City, Mini Metro, and the Battle of Polytopia.

Android users in the US can try Play Pass free for the first ten days, and those that subscribe before 10th October at 11.59pm PT will only pay $1.99 USD per month for the first year. After that, the subscription price increases to its usual $4.99 per month.

Play Pass works with Android mobile, laptop, and tablet devices (using Android version 4.4, Play Store version 16.6.25 and above), and a single subscription can be shared between six family members. Google says to "stay tuned for international availability."

Amazon had this exact thing through their app store for a few years, but it was free. I don't think they do it any more

I remember playing a demo years ago. Combat took a while to get used to but it's an interesting concept, very much a mix of fighting games and RPGs (as expected from the Skullgirls developer)

Obviously I'd prefer big companies to pay tax but they aren't actually doing anything wrong. They'll argue that the tax relief means they can use and keep development houses here.

End of the day they're taking handouts not designed for them and simultaneously avoiding paying massive amounts of tax which should be paying for our health services, transport, police, etc. So fuck them for using their power and wealth for gaming the system and a government that lets them get away with it and take advantage of it.
