The article says smaller devs are using it. They'd have had to put a revenue cap on it to stop the bigger companies using it

Fwiw I'm not against tax incentives, and I think this article is a bit misleading, the tone and the headline at least. They aren't doing anything wrong, the problem is with the rules

I think the problem nowadays is that the corporate world plays by its own rules - eg unless it clearly says you can't then they'll try it on even if it's implied in spirit that you shouldn't !- hence multinationals set up multiple minor divisions each which then exploit the tax rebate (bit like that tax avoidance thing where they set up (sometimes physically non existent) loss making companies etc).

It's like playing a game of Monopoly then sticking your hand on the bank every so often and taking £500, and when people complain, you say, well there's nothing in the rules to say that I can't do that !

There's House of the Dead remakes on the way

Quote

Sega's classic light gun arcade shooters House of the Dead 1 & 2 are officially getting the remake treatment, although it doesn't look like they'll be releasing for a while.

News of the remakes first surfaced last month when Polish website Graczpospolita reportedthat publisher Forever Entertainment (which is also overseeing Switch's Panzer Dragoon 1 & 2 remakes) had signed a deal with Sega to bring enhanced versions of House of the Dead 1 & 2 to "modern platforms", with MegaPixel Studio handling development.

Since then, word on the remakes has languished firmly in rumour territory - until, that is, today, when Forever Entertainment confirmed via tweet that it's signed an agreement to give Sega's much-loved on-rails zombie shooters the makeover treatment.

ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOW

Unfortunately, no platforms or release dates have been provided as yet, with the publisher writing that it was unable to "say anything more for now".

Hi Guys! We confirm the signing of the agreement regarding remakes of the games "The House of the Dead" and "The House of the Dead 2". No platforms or release dates have been confirmed, and unfortunately we can’t say anything more for now. Please keep fingers crossed for us and..

House of the Dead 1 & 2 originally released in 1996 and 1998 respectively, and Graczpospolita's initial report (as Google translated from Polish) suggested that the remakes would see the now decades-old classics refreshed with "new graphics adapted to modern standards and slightly modified gameplay".

Fans will be thrilled to learn, however, that the original script - brought to legendarily awful life by some of gaming's best-worst voice acting - will reportedly be left in tact. Quite how Forever intends to handle the whole light gun aspect of the experience, though, remains to be seen

Need to wait and see how Panzer Dragoon comes out before getting excited for this

Concrete Genie finally came out but it’s only got a 77% on MC. I don’t know why, though, I haven’t read the reviews yet.

Man, I was hoping this game would be rad but now I’m going to have to YT it and see if it’s good.

They did Rogue Aces and Don't Die Mr Robot, this new one is inspired by their old iOS app Frutorious.

And if you want to read more about it, check out my interview with the guys in Wireframe #24 out today...

Nice article on Eurogamer about the C64 conversion of OutRun:

C64 OutRun Article

Even if you're too young to remember the arcade game it's a great insight into the 'bedroom programmers' of the 1980s.

Great article. It's the sort of stuff I used to buy Retro Gamer for back when I read magazines.

Then I saw the contributor bio at the bottom. Makes sense.
