Manicm
Playing this tonight, met the alien died twice, thought I had done it got to the lift then the cutscene came on doh! Will give it another go tomorrow, if the background in this is the future its pretty good. I do miss my surround sound but that might be too much in this game! Hendo
This doesn't give the greatest first impression. The cut scenes at the start had really bad frame rate problems and at the moment I'm wandering round and not much is happening. It's tense but it's certainly a slow start - I have yet to meet the big guy but I have been separated from my crew.
Hendo
Awesome bit of fan service in Chapter 9... I bet I can guess what that is, I'm sure it's been revealed in a preview anyway.Still early in, briefly met my mother's old mate, though Ripley The Younger hasn't seen it enough to know what she's dealing with yet. Hendo
Well I think it's.... the yellow transporter thing Got a little further. I nearly gave up when being hunted by a small group of people, probably died about 10 times. Eventually I think I accidentally swung the pipe thing against a wall which made one come looking for me and I clacked him with it. I took out the other two as well but not quite like a stealthy ninja, didn't die though. After that, Ripley met the Alien for the first time proper and I assume the last guy left got his. Got a gun now, plus a hack device and the motion tracker. Also met the creepy androids.
Manicm
I think your just ahead of me hendo, I keep getting stuck. Ive just got the hacker and gun, went back to the lift the damn alien keeps getting me. Hopefully back to this in a few days, a couple of late shifts on the bounce so no gaming till Friday. Hendo
If they don't know you're coming, can you take androids down with the wrench? Love that video, by the way.
Hendo
Jesus, this game is tense as fuck. I can see why some reviewers hated it because doing it as quick as possible would kill me. I'm happy doing it in short bursts, a chapter or two in a session. Got to where you're helping some medical guy, my first proper encounter in the open happened with the Alien. I got eaten and I turned it off.
Hendo
The default one, Normal or Medium or whatever it is. I'm happy with that, it's hard enough as it is, I've died loads and due to the checkpoint system (or lack of) that's good enough for me.
Hendo
Slowly moving forward, got the stun baton, died lots, lost quite a bit of progress so I'm happy to call it for the evening.
Manicm
Will admit, im not getting on with this game, got a bit lost for a bit, ended up being killed by 3 androids at the same time then got lost when the game restarted. OH who normally likes these got fed up with it the other night and went to throw the pad across the room until I stopped her by telling her how much they cost these days! Might finish COD singleplayer then go back to this.
AndyKurosaki
So this is currently £25 on PSN and Amazon. Ordered it through Amazon, so will see how I get on with it.
AndyKurosaki
Right, started this up last night. I've not got very far yet, haven't even met the alien yet. It looks brilliant though, and certainly captures the feel of the original film. I've got 3 nights off after tonight, so shall properly commit to it then. Bigkopman
Just started playing this myself. Loving the atmosphere.
Hendo
Nope, never finished. Maybe one day, but the length of the game put me off, to be honest. I would've preferred a much shorter, more focussed thing.
DisturbedSwan
Yeah, I finished it way back when on Hard. Absolutely adored it, one of the best horror games I've ever played, was my GOTY for 2014.
Maf
I saw a thing on IGN recently that said this game was TEN YEARS OLD and I ALMOST DIED because that can not be real But anyway, I always meant to play this but have obviously been delayed a little bit so installed it on the Series X tonight. I did try to play this once before but for some reason it made really motion sick so didn’t even really start the game I know in the Silent Hill thread I said I struggle with atmospheric horror games and being stalked which is true so now it’s installed I just need to find some courage to actually start it. Nag
This game is fucking amazing... everyone should play it.
one-armed dwarf
I've tried to get into it, pretty recently actually (last played August 18, says steam). I've never been able to tho, it feels sort of cliche to me for some reason. Maybe there's something there that clicks when you get into it. But like, I think now when I see an abandoned space station with blood on the walls saying "They Lied To Us!", I sort of have an averse reaction. The game is probably very good but it just feels very familiar. Also I very recently replayed Prey, which is still one of the best types of this game IMO Maybe this is why we needed SH2 remade, to show us a different type of environmental storytelling
Maf
Just met the doctor on level 3 or 4. So far not too bad. The Alien has only turned up once. The androids are not very threatening? There was one encounter where I had to lap around a room once or twice but they follow you exactly so they’re easy to lose and create space. On the level I just finished there was an android that would just not face the other way so I thought fuck it and literally just ran past him. It seemed like he didn’t even know I was there until right next to him. I guess the human enemies will be a bit smarter? And as far as I know the Alien is one look, kill. I’ve just realised this game has a tonne of collectibles, and they show on the map which is good, but I’ve realised too late and now missed a bunch. I don’t have very strong impression or opinion so far. I like it, but it’s pretty much what I expected. There are some mini games and small puzzles which add to the tension because trying to solve them while not sure if something is sneaking up. That’s pretty clever. I guess this game is going to get quite open at some point as well. There’s lots of doors I didn’t have a tool for first time, so guess there will be back tracking, but not so sure how open the game will be because it’s been very linear so far. The only thing I’m worried about, a bit like the Android that wouldn’t turn the other way, is if there’s going to be lots of situations like that where just stuck hiding in place for minutes a time waiting to move. That’s always a thing I don’t like about these type of run and hide horror games. I get it adds to suspense but there’s only so long of sitting in one spot and keep looking out just to retreat until it gets annoying. That’s why I legged past the Android because I was like I just don’t think he’s going to move and I’ve already run out of patience I suppose the motion tracker should help with that, and is a really smart way of helping solve this problem while keeping the solution in universe (I dunno if they have motion trackers in the films, but it seems to fit) but the fact it happened once already was a bit like hmm. Not that it’s a deal breaker in anyway, just a bit annoying But overall it was a good start and not too tense.
