Hey gang, just a quick update about Silksong.

We had planned to release in the 1st half of 2023, but development is still continuing. We're excited by how the game is shaping up, and it's gotten quite big, so we want to take the time to make the game as good as we can.

Expect…

Special announcement in 2 days

Funny enough I was watching some Hollowknight over the past couple of days and thinking about playing it again

They don't mention a year in the trailer btw.

I hope everyone who's been looking forward to this ends up enjoying it, but 40 bosses is kind of a red flag to me. Even if you end up fighting one of them every hour then the game will be too long for what I want of a Metroidvania.

I expect a lot of them to be optional. Judging by the first game they’ll be really unique as well

One of my questions is they talk about “ascending”, and show a lot of flying upwards. Then they show a pretty typical looking Metroidvania map. So wonder what the idea is

Finally!!
Can’t wait.

Still a bit shit timing for me too. I’ve got next week off so missed that and I’ve also got Shinobi pre-ordered for then. Hope I don’t feel in need of a small break from Metroidvanias after that - although coming to a game late never hurts.

I feel like I am missing out, I so want to be on the excitement train but I missed it 😔

I thought the original was OK, but I don't think I saw what others did (7/10 type game).

Oh well, I'm happy for those who are excited!

It’s really good action in a world drenched in atmo

However I hope there’s no Deepnest equivalent in this. I literally stopped downloading the game the other day when I remembered that area

I have to ask, why is there so much hype for this? Reading online, it sort of gets treated like indie GTAVI, with devs getting out of its way and choosing later release windows

I'm asking more with genuine curiosity to be informed, rather than disbelief at it. I only played some of Hollow Knight and didn't like it, and so this is probably something I'll be skipping as I need to save money anyway. But I'd like to know exactly what the first game did thats giving its sequel such a demand on people's attention right now

For me, it was the exploration and expansiveness of the game. I thought it would be this compact game world and then it just slowly grows into this incredible majestic world that stretches in every direction. And none of this is told to you or are you ever even pushed in any particular direction - it’s up to you to explore and find everything for yourself. Kind of like Outer Wilds, both of which feel like games that were made exactly for me.

Also, it looks beautiful, has great music and is fun as fuck to play.

Edit: Another way of describing it is,  imagine playing something that you feel is moderately ambitious, then you slowly realize that it’s a little bit more ambitious than you first thought - then finally you realize that they pulled the wool over your eyes and that the game is incredibly ambitious. Not only that, but the game is incredibly ambitious AND they pulled it off.

Another reason why Hollow Knight is good, is not only does it go off literally and otherwise in directions you don’t expect, but the game has lots of personality and twists. There’s the stuff with the bank, what happens with the worms you save and lots of funny/sad characters you meet along the way. There’s map guy with his charming hum and the adventurer that constantly needs saving and tells you to fuck off when you do.

There’s some really good story and actions stuff, too. Some of it is somber in a very indie way which is probably part of why people like it so much

From a gameplay perspective it just has objectively good bosses, surprises, secrets and levels. Like the White Palace and stuff like that

That said, I’m not one of these Hollow Knight super fans, either. Overall I found the game too hard. Like, when you find the optional stuff, the game gets super mean, and in the end it harmed my enjoyment of it

I am looking forward to Silksong, just to see what it’s about, but it’s not like a game I’ve been thinking about all the time or super excited for. But it’ll be interesting to see how if differs from the first or if it manages to 1 up itself

I love Hollow Knight but I’m still

surprised by the hype Silksong has garnered. It seems to have just taken on a life of its own. Some games just do that and I can’t figure out why sometimes.

I’ve seen a few people who didn’t like it originally have gone back fresh recently and loved it so hopefully the same happens for you.

Id say it took me a few hours to “get it”. I mean I liked it at from the start but it was after about 3-5 hours I started to love it. If memory isn’t messing me up as usual anyway.
